A-61 195 July 2003 17 Tips An A4 -size co lor ima ge scann ed at 30 0 dpi i n 24-Bit Color mode is approxima tely 25 M B in siz e. A high er resolu tion (us ually o ver 600 d pi) is recomm ended only when you need to scan a s mall area in 24- Bit Colo r mode.

Invert Click on th e Invert bu tton to rever se the br ightnes s and co lor in th e image. For blac k-and-whi te images , black areas wi ll be whi te and white areas wi ll be black.

Clic k on the Color Drop-out button to ac cess a di alog box that allow s you to c hoose to remove the R (Red), G ( Green ), or B (B lue) color c hannel wh ile s canning.

Saving a s can set tings file T ype a name fo r yo ur settin gs in the Fi le N am e text b ox and click on the Save button.

Energy Saving Mode —check th e Enable box to e nable automatic lamp shu t- off. Specify a ti me delay of 1 to 60 m inutes in the Minutes box .

A-61 195 July 2003 29 Maintenance The scanne r is designe d to be mai ntenance free . However , it must be clean ed occasi onally to ensu re optim um ima ge quality and p erforma nce. Clean the scanner when it d oes not fee d docu ments sm oothly or i f multipl e-sheet feed ing occu rs.
30 A-61 195 J uly 2003 Cleaning the glass scanning areas 1. Open the flatbed cove r and the ADF . 2. Wipe the flatbed platen gl ass with a fresh S t aticide Wipe. 3. Wipe the flatbed platen gl ass with a dry S t aticide Wi pe. 4. Wipe the scannin g glass in the ADF with a fresh S tat icide W ipe.
A-61 195 July 2003 31 Cleaning the ADF The feed module an d the fee d rollers in the A DF may b ecome co ntaminated with ink , toner , a nd paper dust. T his ca n cause d ocument fe eding pr oblems. 1. Open the ADF . 2. Wipe the feed mo dule with a fresh Roller Cleanin g Pad.
32 A-61 195 J uly 2003 Replacing the feed module After ap proxima tely 1 00,000 pages h ave b een scan ned throug h the A DF , the separation pad on the feed module may bec ome worn a nd cause document feeding pr oblems . In this c ase, yo u should replace the feed module.
A-61 195 July 2003 33 T roublesh ooting The scann er automa tically performs a simpl e self-t est each time it is powered up. This h elps spot ma jor sy stem errors in the scanner i tself. When th e self- test is initiate d, the RE ADY li ght fla shes.
34 A-61 195 J uly 2003 Problem Solution When th e scanne r is power ed up, the l amp does no t light. • The lamp has burned out. Con tact servi ce. Lamp l ife is a bout 15,000 hour s. • If the power light on the ADF i s flashing , the pow er adapter is malfunct ioning or the ma in boa rd has s hort-circ uited.
