5 Operating Instructions For The Stratford Multifuel Sf & Si. 1. INTRODUCTION - THE PRINCIPLE OF THE FIRE Your Aarrow Fire is built to the highest standard of craftsmansh ip using the best materials and the most modern equipment available.

7 3. FIRE BED Grate The grates in the Stratford Sf & Si Multifuel units co mpri se a series of reciprocating cast iron bars seated on a pivoted "comb".
8 4. REFRACTORY LINING FOR S f CONVECTOR MODELS ONLY Warning: Refracto ry linings a re very fr agile, han dle with ex treme care . Stratford Sf Multifuel Convectors are lined with reflective panels, cons isting of a combination of rectangular linings, whic h sit on the rear ledge, a nd side lini ngs which sit on the l andings.
9 • Remove front fuel retaine r bars. • Set the four li nings on t he side ledges on either side of the fireb ox. See Fig 5. • Set the three 197mm x 230mm rectangular linings on the u pper surface of the grate bar channel at the rear of the firebox.
10 6. THE AIR SYSTEM Flue Outlet/Hot Plate only for Sf The flue outlet is packed together with the firebrick lin ing and multi-purpose tool, insid e the appliance.
11 Disassemble Air Wash (see fig. 7) The air wash may be disassembled for cleaning or adj ustment to achieve this the following pro cedure should be followed when the fire is cold and unlit. • Support Air Wash cover with one ha nd • Move cover up by smartly tapping the bo ttom with a hammer.
12 Ash pit door Figure 8 7. GLASS/TRIM A gilt trim fitted around firedoor glass comes as standard . It clips on to the small lugs at the top and botto m of the aperture in the cast iron firedoor, as a "spring fit". When fitted, the trim locks the glass retaining clips in position.
13 8. DOOR ADJUSTMENTS The catch can be adjusted by sharply tapping the catch on the inside of the door as shown in Fig 10. Once the appliance has been under fi re for a period of t ime the fire door m ay appear to have m oved out of alignment with relation to th e door aperture or catch on the door in terlock mechanism.

18 Recommended fuels are as fellows: The Hetas Ltd, "Three Tick" appliance approval only covers th e use of the following fuels in this ap pliance; Phurnacite, Phur nacite Plus , Centurion, Maxibrite, Extracite, Pureheat, Blazebrite, Taybrite, Sunb rite (Doubles/Singl es), Anthracit e and Welsh Dry Steam C oal (Large/ Small Nuts ).
19 Lighting the fire Solid fuel burning • On multifuel fires with variable grate setting facility set the grate to the "coal" burn ing position. • Ensure that ash pan is in positio n and the fire door closed. • Set the air wash to one quarter open position.
20 In the morning • Open air control fully un til the embers begin to glow brightly. • Lightly de -ash. • Place smaller pieces of fuel on the fire up to the top of the fuel retainer ba rs. • When the fi re is well establ ished de-ash and em pty the ash pan.
21 For Stratford Si • Engage the operating tool on the comb extentio n. • Move up and down vigorously the riddling lever (Ash will fall into the ash pan beneath the grate).
22 Aarrow fires are designed so that the flue can be swept t hrough the appliance once the throat plate has been removed. Access for cleaning shoul d also be inco rp orated in t he chimney (i.e. a soot do or). Door Glass The door glass should remai n clear during norm al daytim e burning.

24 21. AIR FOR COMBUSTION There must always be a permanent m eans of provi ding air f or combus tion into t he room i n which the fi re is installed. A permanent vent with a total free area of at leas.
25 When a flue lining is fitted (to stainl ess steel or pum ice chimney system s) it should be supported independe ntly to the appliance, i.e. with clip s, brackets, flue lintels, etc. NOT simply resting on t op of the appl iance. It sh ould be possible to remove the fire for m ajor m aintenance work.
