GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS 8 – English T ake care when using your saw and mak e sure the kickbac k zone of the bar nev er touches any object. • The chain brake (A) can either be activ ated manually (b y y our left hand) or automatically by the iner tia release mechanism.
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS English – 9 If the kickbac k is less violent or the kickback zone of the bar is closer to you the chain brak e will be activated manually b y the mov ement of your left hand. • In the felling position the left hand is in a position that mak es manual activ ation of the chain brake impossible.
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS 10 – English Vibration damping system Y our machine is equipped with a vibration damping system that is designed to minimize vibration and mak e operation easier . The machine ′ s vibration damping system reduces the transf er of vibration between the engine unit/cutting equipment and the machine ′ s handle unit.

GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS English – 15 Ne ver use waste oil! Using w aste oil can be dangerous to you and damage the machine and en vironment. Filling with chain oil • All our chain saws ha ve an automatic chain lubrication system. On some models the oil flow is also adjustable.
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS 16 – English Replace the saw chain if it e xhibits any of the points abov e. We recommend y ou compare the existing chain with a new chain to decide how badly the e xisting chain is worn. When the length of the cutting teeth has worn down to only 4 mm the chain must be replaced.
ASSEMBL Y English – 17 Fitting the bar and chain 455 Rancher II, 460 Rancher II, 465 Rancher II Check that the chain brak e is in disengaged position by moving the front hand guard tow ards the front handle. Remov e the bar n uts and remo v e the clutch cover (chain br ake).
ASSEMBL Y 18 – English Fit the bar ov er the bar bolts. Place the bar in its rearmost position. Place the chain over the driv e sprocket locate it in the groov e on the bar . Begin on the top edge of the bar . Make sure that the edges of the cutting links are f acing f orw ard on the top edge of the bar.
FUEL HANDLING English – 19 Fuel Note! The machine is equipped with a two-stroke engine and must alwa ys be run using a mixture of petrol and two- stroke oil. It is important to accurately measure the amount of oil to be mixed to ensure that the correct mixture is obtained.
FUEL HANDLING 20 – English Fueling Clean the area around the fuel cap . Clean the fuel and chain oil tanks regularly . The fuel filter must be replaced at least once a year . Contamination in the tanks causes malfunction. Make sure the fuel is well mix ed by shaking the container before refuelling.
ST AR TING AND ST OPPING English – 21 Starting and stopping Starting The chain brak e must be engaged when the chain sa w is star ted. Activate the brak e by moving the front hand guard forw ards. Cold engine Start position (1): Set the star t/stop switch in the chok e position by pulling the red control outward - upw ard.
ST AR TING AND ST OPPING 22 – English Note! Reactivate the chain br ake by pushing the front hand guard back tow ards the front handle. The chain sa w is now ready f or use. • Nev er star t a chain saw unless the bar , chain and all co v ers are fitted correctly .
W ORKING TECHNIQUES English – 23 Bef ore use: 1 Check that the chain brak e w orks correctly and is not damaged. 2 Check that the rear right hand guard is not damaged. 3 Check that the throttle loc kout works correctly and is not damaged. 4 Check that the stop s witch works correctly and is not damaged.
W ORKING TECHNIQUES 24 – English Fit a guard to the bar bef ore transpor ting the chain saw or carrying it for any distance . 7 When you put the chain sa w on the ground, lock the sa w chain using the chain brak e and ensure you ha ve a constant view of the machine.
W ORKING TECHNIQUES English – 25 8 Unless the user resists this pushing force there is a risk that the chain saw will mov e so far backw ards that only the kickbac k zone of the bar is in contact with the tree, which will lead to a kickbac k. Cutting with the bottom edge of the bar , i.
W ORKING TECHNIQUES 26 – English Cut difficult branches piece by piece . Cutting If you ha ve a pile of logs, each log you attempt to cut should be remov ed from the pile, placed on a saw horse or runners and cut individually . Remov e the cut pieces from the cutting area.
W ORKING TECHNIQUES English – 27 Felling direction The aim is to f ell the tree in a position where you can limb and cross-cut the log as easily as possible.
W ORKING TECHNIQUES 28 – English Ne xt mak e the bottom cut so that it finishes e xactly at the end of the top cut. The directional cuts should run 1/4 of the diameter through the tr unk and the angle between the top cut and bottom cut should be 45 ° .
W ORKING TECHNIQUES English – 29 Freeing a tree that has fallen badl y Freeing a ”trapped tree” It is very dangerous to remov e a trapped tree and there is high accident risk. Nev er tr y to fell the tree that is tr apped. Nev er work in the r isk zone of the hanging trapped tree .

MAINTENANCE English – 31 General The user must only carry out the maintenance and service work descr ibed in this Operator's Manual. More extensiv e work must be carried out by an authorized service workshop. Carburettor adjustment Y our Husqvarna product has been designed and manuf actured to specifications that reduce har mful emissions.
MAINTENANCE 32 – English Checking the inertia brake release Place the chain saw , with the engine switched off , on a stump or other stable surf ace. Release the front handle and let the saw f all by its own weight, rotating around the rear handle towards the stump .
MAINTENANCE English – 33 • Star t the chain saw and apply full throttle . Release the throttle control and check that the chain stops and remains stationary . If the chain rotates when the throttle trigger is in the idle position, contact your servicing dealer.
MAINTENANCE 34 – English use a muffler if the spark arrestor mesh is missing or defective. The muffler is designed to reduce the noise le vel and to direct the exhaust gases a way from the operator . The exhaust gases are hot and can contain sparks, which ma y cause fire if directed against dry and combustible material.
MAINTENANCE English – 35 Fitting the starter • T o fit the star ter, first pull out the starter cord and place the star ter in position against the crankcase. Then slowly release the starter cord so that the pulley engages with the pawls. • Fit and tighten the screws that hold the starter.
MAINTENANCE 36 – English Adjustment of the oil pump. Adjustments are made by turning the screw using a screwdriver or combination spanner . The machine is supplied from the factory with the screw set to position 2. T ur ning the screw cloc kwise will reduce the oil flow and turning the screw anti-clockwise will increase the oil flow .
MAINTENANCE English – 37 T emperature -5 ° ° ° ° C or colder: F or running the machine in cold weather or po wder snow , a special cov er is available , which is mounted on the star ter housing. This reduces the intake of cold air and prev ents large amounts of snow from being suck ed in.
