3 HP All-in-One overview You can access many HP All-in-One functi ons directly, without turning on your computer. You can quickly and easily a ccomplish tasks such as maki ng a copy or sending a fax from the HP All-in-One. This section describes the HP All -in-One hardware feat ures and control panel f unctions.

4 Finish setting up the HP All-in- One After you have comp leted the steps in your Setup Poster, refer to this section to help you finish settin g up the HP All-in-One. Thi s section contains import ant setup-related information f or your device, including in formation on setti ng preferences.
3. Press or to scroll t hrough the languages. Whe n the language you want to use appears, press OK . 4. When prompte d, press 1 for Yes or 2 for No . 5. Press or to scroll through the countries/regi ons. When the country/reg ion you want to se lect appears, press OK .
For example, i f you press Menu in the Copy area and the prompt del ay time passes before you press another butt on, the message " Press Menu for settings. " appears on the display. To set the prompt delay time 1. Press Setup . 2. Press 7 , then press 3 .
To set redial op tions fro m the cont rol panel 1. Press Setup . 2. Do one of t he following: To change the Busy Redial se tting ▲ Press 5 , and then pres s 2 . This selects Advanced Fax Setup and then selects Busy Redial . To chang e the No A nswer Redia l setting ▲ Press 5 , and then pres s 3 .
NOTE: If you select Pulse Dialing , some phone system features might not be available. It can also take longer to dial a fa x or phone number. NOTE: This feature is no t supported in all coun tri es/regions. If it is not supported in your country/region, Tone or Pulse Dialing does not appear in the Basic Fax Setup menu.
TIP: You can also use the Fax Setup Wizard (Windows) or Fax Setup Utility (Mac) to help you quickly se t up some important fax settings such as th e answer mode and fax header informa tion. You can access the Fax Setup Wizard (Windows) or Fax Setup Utility (Mac) through the softwa re you installed with the HP All-in-One.

Select your fa x setup case Now that you ha ve answered all the que stions about the equipmen t and services that share the phon e line with the HP All-in-One, you are ready to choose the best se tup case for your home or offi ce.

Case A: Separate fax li ne (no voice calls recei ved) If you have a se parate phone line on w hich you receive n o voice calls, and you have n o other equi pment connected on thi s phone line, set up the H P All-in-One as descri bed in this section.

Case C: Set up the HP All-in-On e with a PBX phone syst em or an ISDN line If you are using either a PBX phone system or an ISDN co nverter/terminal adapter, make sure you do the foll owing: • If you are using either a PBX or an ISDN converter/terminal adaptor, c onnect the HP All-in-One to the port that is designate d for fax and phone use.
Case D: F ax with a d istinctive ring service on the same line If you subscribe to a distinctive rin g service (through your t elephone company) that allows you to have multiple phone nu mbers on one phone line, each with a different ring pa ttern, set up the HP All -in-One as described in this se ction.
Case E: Shared voice/fa x line If you receive both vo ice calls and fax call s at the same phone nu mber, and you have no other off ice equipment (or voice mai l) on this phone line, set up the HP All-in-One as described in this section.
3. Now you need to d ecide how you want the HP All-in-One to answ er calls, automatica lly or manually: • If you set up the HP All -in-One to answer calls autom atically , it an swers all incoming calls and recei ves faxes.

6. Now you need to decid e how you want the HP All-in-One to answer calls, automatically or ma nually: • If you set up the HP All -in-One to answer calls automatically , it answers all incoming calls and receives faxes.
To set up the H P All-in-One with a shar ed voice/fa x line with a nswering machine 1. Remove the wh ite plug from the port labele d 2-EXT on the back of the HP All-in-One. 2. Unplug your answ ering machine from the t elephone wall jack, and connect it to t he port labeled 2-EXT o n the back of the HP All-in -One.
There are two differ ent ways to set th e HP Al l-in-One with your com puter based on the number of pho ne ports on your com puter. Before you begin, ch eck your computer to se e if it has one or t wo phone ports. • If your compute r has only one phone port, yo u will need to purchase a para llel splitter (also called a cou pler), as shown below.
To set up the HP All -in-One on the same phone line as a computer with two phone ports 1. Remove the wh ite plug from the port labele d 2-EXT on the back of the HP All-in-One. 2. Find the phone cord that connects from the back of your computer (yo ur computer dial-up modem) t o a telephone wall jack.
Case K: Shared voice/fax line wi th computer dial-up modem and v oice mail If you receive both voice call s and fax calls at the same phone number, use a computer dial-up modem on the same phone line, an d subscribe to a voice m ail service through your telephon e company, set up the HP Al l-in-One as described in this section.

Change se ttings on the HP All-in-One to receive faxe s In order to receive faxes successfully, you might need to change some setting s on the HP All-in-One. If you are unsure which setting t o choose for a specific fa x option, refer to the detailed f ax setup instructions p rovided in the printed documentation.
Equipment/services sharing your fax line Recommended Auto An swer setting Description Distinctive ringing service. On The HP All-in-One automatically answers all incoming calls. Make sure the ring pattern th e phone company set for your fax line matches the Distinctive Ring setting on the HP All-in-One.
To set the number of rings befo re answering from the control panel 1. Press Setup . 2. Press 4 , and then press 3 . This selects Basic Fax Setup and then selects R ings to Answer . 3. Enter the appropriat e number of rings by us ing the keypad, or press or to change the number of rings.
• Checks for an acti ve phone line • Tests the status of your phon e line connection The HP All-in-One pri nts a report with the result s of the test. If the te st fails, review the report for informatio n on how to fix the problem and rerun the test.
4. In the Fax H eader area, type your company name and f ax number. NOTE: The informat ion you enter in the Personal In formation area is used when you send a co ver page. This informati on is not included in the fax header informatio n. 5. Click Apply or OK .
5. Enter the name, and then press OK . 6. Press 1 if you want to set up another number, or press 2 if yo u are finished creating speed dial entries. To crea te speed d ial entrie s from the HP Ph otosmart Studio (Mac) Softwar e 1. Select the HP De vice Manager from the Dock .
3. In the Fa x Speed Dial dialo g box, choose the speed dial entry that you want to edit, and then cl ick Edit Entry . 4. Make your changes, and t hen click OK .

5 Load originals and load paper You can load many diffe rent types and sizes of paper in the HP All-i n-One, including letter or A4 paper, p hoto paper, transpar encies, and envelopes.
2. Slide the paper guides inward until they stop at t he left and right e dges of the paper. NOTE: Remove all orig inals from the document feeder tray before lifti ng the lid on the HP All-in -One.

Photo media • Use the Best mode to print photogra phs. Note that in th is mode, printing take s longer and more memory is requi red from your computer. • Remove each sheet as it prints and set it aside to dry. Allowing wet me dia to stack up may cause smearing.

• Highly textur ed stock, such as linen. It might not print evenly, and the in k can bleed into these pa pers. • Extremely sm ooth, shiny, or coated pap ers not specifically design ed for the HP All- in-One. They can jam the HP All-in-One or repel t he ink.
To loa d full-siz e paper 1. Remove the o utput tray. 2. Slide the paper-w idth guide to its oute rmost position. 3. Tap a stack of pape r on a flat surf ace to align the edges, and then check the paper for the fo llowing: • Make sure it is f ree of rips, dust, wrinkles, and curled or bent edges.
4. Insert the stack of pap er into the input tray with th e short edge forward and the print side down. Slide th e stack of paper forward until it stops. CAUTION: Make sure that the HP All-in-One is idle and silent when you l oad paper into th e input tray.
7. Flip the tray exte nder up towa rd you. NOTE: When you use legal -size paper, leave the t ray extender closed. Load 1 0 x 15 cm (4 x 6 inch ) photo paper You can load 10 x 15 cm (4 x 6 inch) photo pap er into the input tray of the HP All-in-One.
4. Slide the paper-w idth guide inward against the photo paper unti l it stops. Do not overload the input tray; make sure the stack of paper fits within th e input tray and is no high er than the top of the p aper-width gui de. 5. Replace the out put tray.

6 Print from your computer The HP All-i n-One can be used with any so ftware application t hat allows print ing. You can print a range of p rojects, such as bord erless images, newsletters, greeting cards, iron-on transfers, and post ers.
To change the paper size, orientation, or scali ng percentage 1. From the File menu in your softw are application, ch oose Page Setup . 2. Make sure the HP All-in-One is the selected printer. 3. Make changes to t he paper size, orientati on, and scaling percentag e settings, and click OK .
7 Use the copy features The HP All-in-O ne enables you to produ ce high-quality color and black-and-white copies on a variety of paper types, inclu ding transpare ncies.
Set the number of copies You can set the number of copie s that you want to print by using the Number of Copies option. To set the number of copies fro m the control panel 1.
To set the paper size from the HP Photosmart Studio (Mac) Software 1. Select the HP Device Manager from the Dock . The HP Device Manager wi ndow appears. 2. In the Tasks area, double-click Make Copi es . The HP Copy dialog box appea rs. 3. From the Paper Size pop-up menu, choose the pape r size.
Change copy speed or quality The HP All-i n-One provides three opti ons that affect co py speed and quality: • Best produces the highe st quality for all paper a nd eliminates the ba nding (striping) effect that sometimes o ccurs in solid areas. Best copies slower than the o ther quality settings.
NOTE: The setting s you specify here are only saved on the HP All-in-One. They do not adjust the set tings in the software. You ca n save your most frequently used settings by using the software that you insta lled with the HP All -in-One. To set default copy setti ngs from the HP P hotosma rt Studio (Mac) Software 1.
3. Press Start Copy Black or Start Copy Color . The HP All-in-O ne makes a 10 x 15 cm (4 x 6 inch) borderless co py of your original photo. NOTE: If you loaded tabb ed paper in the photo tray, you can remove the tab from the copy of yo ur photo once the ink has completel y dried.
9. Make any oth er changes to the settings you want. 10. Click Black Copy or Color Copy . The HP All-i n-One makes a 10 x 15 cm (4 x 6 inch) borderless co py of your orig inal photo.
4. Do one of t he following: • If you loade d your original in the docume nt feeder tray or on the glass, press until Full Pag e 91% appears. • If you loade d a full- or small-size original on t he glass, press until Fit to Page appears. 5. Press Start Copy Black or Start Copy Color .
Copy a legal-size document onto letter paper You can use the Legal > Ltr 72% setting to redu ce a copy of a legal-size document to a size that fits ont o letter paper. NOTE: The percentag e in the example, Legal > Ltr 72% , might not match the percentage that app ears in the display.
To adjust the copy contrast from the HP Pho tosmart Studio (Mac) Sof tware 1. Make sure you ha ve paper loaded in t he input tray. 2. Load your original print side down on the right fr ont corner of the glass or pr int side up in the doc ument feede r tray.

8 Use the scan features Scanning is the proces s of converting text and pict ures into an electronic format for your computer. You can scan almost anything (photos, maga zine articles and text docu ments), as long as you are caref ul not to scratch the glass on the HP All-in-One.
3. Press OK to select the d efault application to receive the scan, or press to select a different a pplication, and t hen press OK . A preview image of the scan appears on your computer, wh ere you can edit it. 4. Make any edits to t he preview image, and the n click Accept when you are finished.

9. (Optional ) Deselect Automatic mode if you want to manipulate th e scanned documen t in th e Readiris OCR software before co nverting it to text o r sendin g it to the text editor app lication.
Change r esolution or image type You might want t o permanently change the resol ution or image type of an existing destinat ion. To change the reso lution or image ty pe 1. In the HP Photosmart Studio task bar, click Devi ces . The HP Device Manager wi ndow appears.
Change the ima ge preview setting You can set the scan softw are to automaticall y send a scan to the default destination without m aking any changes in the HP Scan Pro w indow. To skip the pr eview 1. Select the HP De vice Manager from the Dock . The HP Device Manager window appears.
9 Use the fax features You can use the H P All-in-One to send and receive faxes, including color faxes. You ca n set up speed dial entri es to send faxes quickly and easily to freque ntly used numbers.
NOTE: If you need p rinted confirmation that your faxes were successfully sent, enable f ax confirmation before sending any faxes. TIP: You can also send a fax man ually by dialing from a phone or b y using the monitor di aling feature from the contro l panel.
To send a fax using spe ed dials from the co ntrol panel 1. Load your original s print side up int o the document feeder t ray. If you are sending a single-page f ax, such as a photograph, you can also l oad your original pr int side down on the glass.
prompts, or othe r sounds through the handset on your te lephone. This makes it easy for you to use a calli ng card to send your fax. Depending o n how the recipient has t heir fax machine set up , the recipient migh t answer the phone, or th e fax machine might take the call.
To send a fax using monitor di aling from the control pan el 1. Load your original s print side up int o the document feeder t ray. If you are sending a single-page f ax, such as a photograph, you can also l oad your original pr int side down on the glass.
5. Press until Scan & Fax appears, and th en pres s OK . 6. Press Start Fax Black . NOTE: If you press Start Fax Color , the fax will b e sent in black and wh ite and a message appears on the display. The HP All-in-O ne scans the originals into mem ory and sends the fax when the receiving fa x machine is available.
Send a fax to multiple re cipients You can send a fax to mult iple recipients at once by gro uping individual speed dial entries into group speed dia l entries. To send a fax to multiple re cipients from the control panel 1. Load your original s print side up int o the document feeder t ray.
6. Enter the reci pient information, and then click Add to Recipi ents . NOTE: You can also add recipie nts from the Phone Book or from the Addr ess Book . To select a recipient from the Address Book , click Open Address Book , and then drag and drop the recipient to the Fax Re cipients area.
Send a fax from th e computer You can load a black-and -white or color document, such as a photo, in the HP All-in-One, then send it as a fax wit h a cover page by using the HP Ph otosmart Studio (Mac) Software that came with the HP All-in-One.
9. If you wan t to include a cover pag e, do the following: a . From the pop-up me nu, choose HP Fax Cover Page . The HP Fax Cover Page di alog box op ens. b . From the Print Cover Page area, select wheth er you want to print the cove r page before or aft er the document you are faxing.
To send a com puter-generated cover pag e as a single-page fax 1. Select the HP Device Manager from the Dock . The HP Device Manager wi ndow appears. 2. In the Tasks menu, dou ble-click Send Fax . The Print dialog box ope ns. 3. From the Printer pop-up menu, choose t he HP All-in-One (Fax).
The follow ing resolution sett ings are availab le for sending f axes: Fine , Very Fine , Photo , and Standard . • Fine : provi des high-q uality text suitable for faxing most docu ments. This is the default setting. When se nding faxes in color, the HP All -in-One always uses t he Fine setting.
NOTE: The Ligh ter / Darker setting appl ies to black an d white faxes on ly, not color faxes. When you exit the Fax menu, thi s option returns to the default settin g unless you set your changes as the default. To change the Lig hter / Darker setting from th e cont rol pane l 1.
increases phon e charges substantially, and you can accept poorer qualit y in exchange for reduced charges. Before turning the ECM sett ing off, consider the follow ing. If you turn ECM off • The qualit y and transmission speed of faxes you send a nd receive are affected.
You can receive faxes manua lly from a phone that is: • Directly conne cted to the HP All-in-One (o n the 2-EXT port) • On the same ph one line , but not di rectly conn ected to the HP All -in-One To receive a fax manual ly 1. Make sure the HP Al l-in-One is turned on a nd you have paper loade d in the input tray.
condition occurs that prevents the HP A ll-in-One from printing ( for example, the HP All-in-One runs out of paper), the HP All- in-One will stop answering incoming fax calls.
To delete all the faxes in me mory from the co ntrol panel ▲ Turn off the H P All-in-One by pressing the Power but ton. All faxes stored in memory will be deleted from memory when you turn of f the power to the HP All-in-One. NOTE: You can also delete any faxes st ored in memory by sele cting Clear Fax Log from the Tools me nu.
3. Press until On-Forward or On-Print & Forward appears, and then press OK . • Choose On-Forward if you want to forward the fax t o another number without printing a ba ckup copy o n the HP All-in -One.
To set the paper si ze for received faxes from the con trol panel 1. Press Setup . 2. Press 4 , and then press 4 . This selects Basic Fax Setup and then selects Fa x Paper Size .
To set the junk fax mode 1. Press Setup . 2. Press 4 , and then press 7 . This selects Basic F ax Setup and then selects Junk Fax Blocke r Set Up . 3. Press 4 to select Block Junk Fax . 4. Press to select On or Off , and then press OK . Add numbers to the junk fax list There are two ways to add a numbe r to your junk list.

On Fax Send Prints when ever there is a transmission error. On Fax Receive Prints whenever there is a receiving error. Print the fax log The fax log enable s you to print a log of appro ximately the last 30 fax transact ions. If a fax transaction had a n error, the error is indicated by an error code in the fax log.

10 Maintain the HP All-in-One The HP All- in-One requ ires little maintenan ce. Sometimes yo u might wan t to clean the glass and lid backing to remove surface dust and ensu re that your copies and sca ns remain clear. You w ill also need to replace, ali gn, or clean your prin t cartridges from ti me to time.
To clean the lid b acking 1. Turn off the HP All-in-One, unplug the po wer cord, and raise the lid. NOTE: Depending h ow long the HP All-in-O ne is unplugged, th e date and time might be er ased. You might need t o reset the date and time later, when you plug the power cord back in.

Work with print cartridges To ensure the best prin t quality from the HP All-i n-One, you will need to perform some simple maint enance procedures and, wh en prompted by a message on the display, replace the print cartridg es.
NOTE: Handle the p rint cartridges carefully. Dro pping or jarring cartridges can cause temporary printing problems, or even permanent d amage. Replace the print cartridg es Follow these i nstructions when the ink level is l ow. NOTE: When the ink level fo r the print cartridge is low, a message appears on the display.
3. Wait until the print carriage is idle and silent, and then lightly press down o n a print cartridge to release it. If you are replaci ng the tri-color print cartridge , remove the print cartridg e from the slot on the lef t. If you are replaci ng the black print cartridg e, remove the print cartridge from the slot on the right.
6. Remove the n ew print cartridge fr om its packaging and, bei ng careful to to uch only the black plast ic, gently remove the plastic tape by using the pink pull tab.
8. Close the print cartridge door. 9. If you installed a new print cartridge, the pri nt cartridge alignment p rocess begins. 10. Make sure you ha ve plain paper loaded in th e input tray, and press OK . The HP All-i n-One prints a print cartridge a lignment sheet.
Use the print cartridge protector In some countries/re gions, when you purchase a photo pri nt cartridge, you might also receive a print cartridge protector. In other countries/regions, a print cartridge protector comes in the box wi th the HP All-in-One.
NOTE: If you remove and reinstall the same print cartridge, the HP All-in-One will not prompt you t o align the print cartridges. The HP All-in-One remembers the alignment value s for that print cartridge, so you do not need to realign the p rint cartridges .
4. From the Information and Setti ngs pop-up menu, choose M aintain Printer . The Select Printer windo w appears. 5. If the Select Printer dialog box appears, choose the H P All-in-One, and then click Launch Utility . 6. Click Align in the Configuration Settings Panel .
Clean the print cartridge contacts Clean the pr int cartridge contacts onl y if you get repeated messages on the display prompting you t o check a print cartridge af ter you already have cleaned or aligned the print cartridges.
7. Clean only the copper-colored contacts. Al low the print cartridg es to dry for approximate ly ten minutes. 1 Copper-colored con tacts 2 Ink nozzles (do not clean) 8. Slide the print cartridge back int o the slot. Push the print cartridge forwa rd until it clicks into place.
Make sure you have the following materi als available: • Dry foam rubber sw abs, lint-free cloth, or any soft material t hat will not come apart or leave fibe rs.
8. Repeat if nece ssary for the other print cart ridge. 9. Gently cl ose the prin t cartridge door and plug the p ower cord in to the back of th e HP All-in-On e.

Solution: • Make sure the po wer cord is firmly connecte d to both the HP All-in-One an d the power adapter. Plug the power cord into a grounded power ou tlet, surge protector, or power strip. 1 Power connection 2 Power cord and adapter 3 Grounded power outlet • If you are using a power st rip, make sure the power strip is on.
Communication problems over a USB co nnection If the HP All- in-One and computer are not comm unicating with each other, t ry the followin g: • Look at the disp lay on the HP All-in-One. If the display is blank a nd the Power button is not lit, the HP All-in-One is turned off.

Information on print cartridges For best resul ts, use HP print cartri dges. The following t ips help maintain HP p rint cartridges and ensure consis tent print quality.
• Always hold phot o paper by the edges. Fingerprint s on photo paper can reduce print qualit y. • Do not use paper tha t is heavily textured. It can cause graphics o r text to print improperly.
2. Gently pull the paper out of the roll ers. CAUTION: If the paper tears wh en you are removing it f rom the rollers, check the rollers and wheels for to rn pieces of paper that might be remaining insi de the device. If you do not remove all the pieces of paper fr om the HP All-in-One, more paper jams are l ikely to occur.
Print cartridge troubles hooting If you are experiencing problems w ith printing, you might have a probl em with one of the print cartridges. To trouble shoot print cartridges 1. Remove the black print cartridg e from the slot on the right. Do not touch the ink nozzles or the copper-color ed contacts.
• Ink is n ot filli ng the te xt or grap hics comple tely • The text edge s are jagged • The print out has a horizontal band of distortion near th e bottom of the pag e • Colors run into ea ch.
TIP: If the automatic documen t feeder does not pick u p the plai n paper, try cleaning th e front roller. Wip e the rol ler with a so ft lint-free clot h dampened with distilled wat er. If the problem p ersists, or the automa tic document feed er does not pick up the plain paper, you ca n clean the rollers and separator pad m anually.
Solution: Check th e quality setting. Use a higher quality setting to increase the amount of ink u sed for prin ting or copyin g. To change the print sp eed or quality 1. Make sure you have pape r loaded in the input tr ay. 2. From the File menu in your softwar e application, ch oose Print .
For more informati on on paper, see Understand specifi cations for supported media . Colors run into each other on the printout Cause: The p rint or copy quality set ting is set too high for the type o f paper loaded in the HP All -in-One. Solution: Check the quali ty setting.
NOTE: HP cannot guaran tee the quality or reliabili ty of non-HP ink. Printer service or re pairs requ ired as a re sult of printer failure or damage attribu table to the use of non-HP ink will not be covered under warranty. Cause: The print cartridges nee d to be cleaned.

Solution: Check th e quality setting. Use a higher quality setting to increase the amount of ink u sed for prin ting or copyin g.
For more informati on on print cartridges, see Print cartridge t roubleshooting . Cause: There mig ht be fiber or dust built up around the ink nozzle area on the prin t cartridges. Solution: Check the print cart ridges. If it looks as though t here are fibers or dust around the ink nozzle s, clean the ink nozzle area of the print cartridge.
8. Repeat if ne cessary for the other print cart ridge. 9. Gently clos e the print cartridge door and plu g the power cord int o the back of the HP All-in-One. Cause: The sending fax machine is having problems. Solution: Ask the sender t o check their fax machine for an y problems.
3. In the Copy area, press Quality until the appropriate qu ality setting is lit . 4. Press Start Copy Black or Start Copy Color . To change the print spe ed or quality 1. Make sure you have paper l oaded in the input t ray. 2. From the File menu in your software applica tion, choose Print .
Solution: Ch ange the Paper Typ e setting to match the type o f paper loaded in the input tray. To set the paper type for copies 1. In the Co py area , press Menu repeatedly until Paper Type appears. 2. Press until t he appropriate paper t ype appears.
To clean th e lid backing 1. Turn off the H P All-in-One, unplug th e power cord, and raise the l id. NOTE: Depending how long the HP All-in-One is u nplugged, the date and time might be erased. You mi ght need to reset the date and time later, whe n you plug the pow er cord back in.
To set the paper type for printing 1. Make sure you have pape r loaded in the input tr ay. 2. From the File menu in your softwar e application, ch oose Print . 3. Make sure the HP All-in -One is the selected pri nter. 4. From the pop-u p menu, choose Paper Type/Qu ality .

Solution: If you have vertical lines or streaks on the fax, the se nder's fax machine might have dirt or dust o n the glass or automatic document f eeder. Check with the sender to see if the glass or automatic documen t feeder is clean. Cause: The print cartridges nee d to be cleaned or might be out o f ink.
Ink is oversprayi ng the paper when I copy or prin t a photo Cause: A small amount (a few millimeters) of overspray is common when making a copy of a phot o. If there are m ore than a few mil limeters of overspray, i t might mean the HP All-in-One th inks the paper loaded is wi der than it actuall y is.
NOTE: To avoid paper jams, t uck the flaps inside the envelop es. To load enve lopes 1. Remove the output tray. 2. Remove all paper from the i nput tray. 3. Insert one or mo re envelopes into the far-ri ght side of the input tray w ith the envelope flap s up and on the left.
Solution: If the ink smears w hen printing envelopes, tuck the flaps inside the envelopes. If the proble m persists, remove the black print cart ridge and print with only the tri-color print cartridge installed.

Tap a stack of pape r on a flat su rface to align the edges, and then check the paper for the following: • Make sure it is f ree of rips, dust, wrinkle s, and curled or bent edges. • Make sure all the pa per in the stack is the same size a nd type.
5. Slide the paper-w idth guide inward until it st ops at the edge of the pa per. Do not overload the input tray; make sure the stack of pap er fits within the input tray and is no hig her than the top of the paper-width guide. 6. Replace the o utput tray.
Solution: If t he HP All-in-One is not prop erly connected to the compute r, communication e rrors can occur. Make sure the USB cable i s connected to the HP All- in-One and the com puter as shown below.
Solution: Look at the displa y on the HP All-in-One. If the display is blank and the light next to the Power button is not lit, the HP All -in-One is turned off. Make sure the power cord is firmly connecte d to the HP All-in-One and plugged into a power outlet.
3. Select the H P All-in-One, and then select La unch Utility . 4. Click Print Test Page . A test page is printed as long as you r connection is set up a nd working properly. For informat ion on setting up the HP All -in-One, see the Setup Poster provided with the HP All -in-One.

You are us ing the wrong paper type . Solution: Make sure you load pho to paper in the input tray before you print a borderless print job.
The HP All-in-One pri nts a report with the results of the test. If th e test fails, review the report for inform ation on how to fix the problem. To test your fax setup from the control panel 1. Set up the HP All-in -One for faxing according to your parti cular home or office setup instructions.

Solution: Check th e display or your computer for a n error message providing informatio n about the problem and how to so lve it. If there is an error, t he HP All-in- One will n ot send or receive a fax unt il the error condition is resolved. For more information on error messages, see Errors .

Solution: If you are sending a fax ma nually, make sure that you press Sta rt Fax Black or Start Fax Color within three seconds of heari ng the recipient's fax tones, otherwise th e transmission might f ail.

Pages of a fax I sent are mis sing Cause: Two or more pages were fed through the docu ment feeder tray at the same time. Solution: Print a Last Transacti on report to verify the number of pa ges that were sent.

Solution: If you are sending a fax from the glass, make a copy to chec k the quality of the printout . If the quality of th e printout is poor, clean the glass. To make a copy from the control panel 1. Make sure you have paper l oaded in the input t ray.
Solution: Make a copy to check the qual ity of the printout. If the printout is t oo light, you can darken it by adj usting the Lighter / Dark er setting when sendi ng the fax. To change the Lighte r / Darker setting from the control panel 1. Load your orig inals print side up into the document feeder tray.
Solution: Load your original s into the document feede r tray. If you are sending a single-page fax, such as a photograph, you can also load your origina l on the glass. To load an or iginal in the documen t feeder tray 1. Load your original, wit h the print side up, int o the document feeder tray.
3. Close the lid. Fax transm ission is slo w Cause: You are sending a fax in color. Solution: Sending a fax in color can take longer th an sending a black-and-whi te fax. Try sendi ng the fax in black and white. Cause: The document co ntains a lot of graphi cs or has very fine detai l.

Cause: Auto Answer is turned off, which mean s that the HP Al l-in-One will not answer inco ming calls. You must be avai lable to respond in person to incoming fax calls, or th e HP All-in-O ne will no t answer the i ncoming fax ca ll.
Solution: If yo u have an answerin g machine on the sam e phone line wi th the HP All- in-One, do the following: • Disconnect t he answering machine and then try receiving a fax. If faxing is successful with out the answering machine, the answering machine mi ght be causing the problem .

To clear the memo ry, you can also delete the faxes stored in memory b y turning off the HP All-in-One. Cause: An error condition is prevent ing the HP All-in-One from receiving faxes and Ba ckup Fax Reception is set to Off .
Solution: Set the Fax Speed to Medium or Slow , and then co ntact the sender to have them resend the fax. To set the fax speed from the control pa nel 1. Press Setup . 2. Press 5 , and then press 7 . This selects Adva nced Fax Se tup and then selects Fax Speed .
When you have an answering ma chine on the same phone line you use for fax calls, you must connect the answerin g machine directly to the HP All- in-One using the port labeled 2-EXT, as shown below.
To set the number of rings be fore answering from the con trol panel 1. Press Setup . 2. Press 4 , and then press 3 . This selects Basic Fa x Setup and then selects Rings to A nswer . 3. Enter the appropria te number of rings by using the keypad, or press or to change the numbe r of rings.
Solution: If you have a special ring pattern fo r your fax phone number (using a distinctive ring servi ce through your telephone company), make sure that t he Distinctive R ing featu re on th e HP All- in-One is se t to match.
• The print cartridge door is open . Close the print cartridge door, as sho wn below: • The print ca rriage is stalled. Turn th e HP All-in-One off, remove any objects that are blocking the p rint carriage (includi ng any packing ma terials), and then turn the HP All-i n-One on again.
To delete all the faxes in me mory from the control panel ▲ Turn off the HP All-in-One by pressing the Power bu tton. All faxes stored in memory will be deleted from memory wh en you turn off the power to the HP All-in-One . NOTE: You can also del ete any faxes stored in m emory by selecting Cl ear Fax Log from the Tools menu .

Parts of a fax I recei ved are cut off Cause: The sending fax machin e has a problem. Solution: Check w ith the sender to see if the sendi ng fax machine is having problems. Cause: The fax originated on a larger paper size, such a s legal, and the Automatic Reduction option is turned off.

If you want to make a large copy of a small original, scan the original into the computer, resize the im age in the HP Scan Pro software, an d then print a copy of the enlarg ed image.
