1 Welcome Thank you for purchasing an HP Photosmart D7100 series print er! With this new photo printer you can print beau tiful photos, save photos to a comput er, and create fun and easy projects wi th or without a comp uter. This guide primari ly explains how to print without connecting a computer.
Printer parts Front of printer 1 On : Press this button to turn on the printer. 2 Top cover : Lift this cover to access the ink cartr idges and to clear paper jams. To lift the cover , grasp the top cover below the HP logo and pull upward. 3 Printer Screen : Use this screen to view photos, menus, and messages.
Main and Output trays 1 Paper-width gu ide : Adjust this guide to fit close to the edge of the paper in the main tra y. 2 Output tray : Use this tray to catch your printouts. Lift this tray to access the photo tray. 3 Output tray extend er : Pull towards you to extend the output tray to catch your printouts.
Control pa nel 1 On : Turn on the printer or put it in to power save mode. 2 Back : Step back one screen at a time. 3 Home : Press to return to the home screen. 4 Navigation arrows : Adjust the crop box, navigate men u choices, and cont rol the playback of a video clip.

View & Print Wizard : Use the wizard to guide you through the printi ng process. Also use the wizard to improve photo quality and apply advance d photo effects such a s brightness and color effects. 4×6 : Use to print 4×6 inch (10 × 15 cm) photographs.
– Security level : Sel ect Low (default) or High . The Low setting does not require users of other d evices with Bluetooth wireless technolo gy to enter the printer passkey. High requires users of other devices wit h Bluetooth wireless technology to enter the printer passkey.

Insert ink cartridges The first time you set up and use your H P Photosmart, make sure to install the in k cartridges that were shipped with your printe r. The ink in these i nk cartridges is speci ally formulated to mix w i th th e ink in the print head assembly.
Ink cartridge tips HP Vivera Inks deli ver true-to-life photo quality a nd exceptional fade resistan ce resulting in vivid colors that last fo r generations! HP Vivera Inks are specially-fo rmulated and scientifically tested for quality, purity an d fade resistance.
Inserting or replacing the ink cartridges 1. Make sure the power is on , then lift the top cover. Make sure a l l packin g mate rial has been removed from insid e the printer. 2. Squeeze the gray t ab below an ink cartridg e slot to release t he gray latch inside the printer, then li ft the latch.
Make sure you insert the in k cartridge into the slot that has the same shaped i con and color as the new ca rtridge. The copper-colored con tacts should be facing the printer as the ink cartridg e is inserted. Note The first time you set up and u s e the pri nter, make sure to install the ink cartridges that were ship ped with your printer.

3 Printing photos without a computer The HP Photosmart D7100 series printer lets you select, enhance, and print photo s without even turni ng on the computer.
Print all photos on the memory card Before you beg in, make sure that the memory card is inserted in the printer and the paper tray you want to use is lo aded with the correct paper. 1. Select View & Print , then press OK . 2. Select Print All . 3.
The printe r recognizes video clips rec orded in these formats: ● Motion-JPEG AVI ● Motion-JPEG QuickTime ● MPEG-1 The printer ignores video clips in any other format. Before you beg in, make sure that the memory card is inserted in the printer and the paper tray you want to use is lo aded with the correct paper.
Note You can also print from ot her devices with Bluetooth wireless tech nology, such as PDAs and camera phone s. Adjust poor-quality video clips This preference affects photo s printed from video clips. Improve the quality of photos printe d from video clips 1. Select Settings and press OK . 2. Using the arrow keys, fi nd and select Preferences an d press OK . 3.

Saving photos to a computer You can save photos to a computer f rom any memory card inserted in the printe r, if you set up a USB connection bet ween the two devices. If you are using a Wind ows computer Use either of these m ethods to save photos to your computer.

Access prin t preferences (Windows use rs) 1. Open the Print dialog box, usually by selecting Print from the File menu. 2. Change the p rinting preferences in t he Print dialog box tabs, or click Proper ties or Preferences to access more printing preferences.

6 Care and maintenance The printer requires very litt le maintenance. Follow the guidel ines in this section to extend the life span of t he printer and printing supplies, a nd to ensure that the phot os you print are always of th e highest quality.
Automatically clean the printhead If you notice white lines or streaks on the photos you print, o r in the color blocks of the self test report, use t his procedure to clean the print head. Do not clean the pr int head unnecessarily, as this wast es ink and shortens the life of the ink nozzles on the print head .
1 Gently wipe only the c opper-colored contacts 6. Place the ink cartridge back in to the empty slot and press down on the gray latch until it clicks int o place. 7. Repeat if necessary f or the other ink cartridges. 8. Close the top cover. Caution The ink supply may become pressuri zed.
Self test report Update the software Download the la test printer software upda te periodically to ensure you ha ve the latest features and improve ments. You can download printer software upda tes by going to www.hp.com/support or by using HP Sof tware Update.
Downloading th e software (Mac) Note Make sure you are connecte d to the Internet before you u se HP Photosmart Updater. 1. On your Mac in the Finder, choose Go > Applications . 2. Choose Hewl ett-Packard > Photosmart > HP Photosmart Update r .
To handle p hoto paper ● Always hold photo paper by th e edges to avoid fingerprints. ● If the photo pap er has curled edges, place it in its plast ic storage bag and gently bend it in the op posite direction of the curl until t he paper lies flat.
7 Troubleshooting The HP Photosmart printer is designed to be reliab le and easy to use. This chapter answers frequen tly asked questions about using the printer and printing wit hout a computer.
The printer does not find th e photos I stored on my memory ca rd Solution The memory card may contain fil e types t he printer cannot read directly from the card. ● Save the photos to a computer, then pri nt them from the computer. For more information, se e the onscreen HP Photosmart help and the documentation that came with the camera.
The printer does not print border less photos when I print from the control pan el Solution Make sure the correct la yout i s select ed when setting up the print job. When selecting pho to and paper size, the image recta ngle must be solidly fille d with orange to indi cate a borderless print.

If you cancelled the pri nt job before printing started, the printer may have already loaded paper in pr eparation for printing. The next time you print, the printer ejects the blank page b efore starting the new printing p roject. ● A print job with a large amount of data may have been sent to t he printer.
– Align the printer. For more information, see Alig ning the printer . – If print qual ity problems persist after you have tr ied all of the above solutions, contact H P Support. Photos are not printi ng correctly Solution ● You may have loaded th e photo paper incorrectly.
1 Remove the rear access door to clear p aper jams. If you cannot re move all jammed paper from th e rear area of the printer, try remo ving paper jammed in th e middle of the printer by opening the paper jam door located inside the top cover. 1 Open the paper jam door to clear pap er jams in the middle of the printer.
Ink cartridge errors Before contacting HP sup port, read this section for troubleshootin g tips or go to the online support services at www.hp .com/support .
Error mess age: Cannot prin t Solution The indicated i n k cartridg e(s) are out of ink. Replace the indi cated ink cartridge(s) immediately so that you can resume printi ng. The HP Photosmart cannot continue printing unt il the indicated ink cartridge(s) ar e replaced.
Error messag e: Original HP ink depleted Solution Replace the indi cated ink cartridge(s) or press OK to continue. HP recommends that you use ge nuine HP ink cartridges. Genuine HP ink cartridges are designed and t e sted wit h HP printers to help you easily produce great results, time after time.
1 Open the paper jam door to clea r the print head assembly. 2. Remove any objects t hat are blocking the print head assemb ly, including paper and any packing materials. 3. Turn the printer off, then turn it on again. 4. Close the paper j am door and the top cover.
Error mess age: Card access error. Job was cancelled. Press OK.—OR — File directory structur e is co rrupted. —OR— Card may be damaged. Jo b was cancelled. Press OK. Solution The printer cannot read the data on the memory card and cannot complete any cu rrent print jobs.
Error message: Use only one (1) card at a time. Please remove a memory card. — OR— Use only one (1) devi ce at a time. Please remove/discon nect a device.
Error message: Som e photo numbers are not on card. Solution Use your camera to transf er the pho tos to your com puter, and then print from your computer.
