1 Welcome Thank you for purchasing an HP Photosmart A610 series printer! Th is printer makes home photo printing simple, convenie nt, and fun, and it produces high-qualit y color prints you will be pleased t o share with family and frie nds. Front of printer 1 Control panel : Control the ba sic functions of the printer from here. 2 Printer screen : View photos and menus here. The printer scree n pops up automatically when you open the output tray. Tilt the screen up to adjust the viewing angle.
Input tray and insid e front of printer 1 Input tray : Load paper here. The input tray opens automatically when you open the output tray. 2 Input tray extension : Pull out to support pa per. 3 Paper-width gu ide : Move to the width of the current paper to po sition the paper properly.
Indicator lights 1 On light : This light, surrounding the Power button, is solid green when the printer is on. It is green and flashing when the prin ter is busy, and it is red and flashing when the printer requir es attention.
Control pa nel 1 On : Press this button to turn the prin ter on or off. 2 Layout : Press this button to select a print layout. Use the 4-way arrow button to scroll through layout selections. Press OK to select a layout. 3 Printer screen : View photos a nd menus here.
Internal battery compartment 1 Internal battery compartment : Insert the optional HP Photosmart Internal Battery here. 2 Battery compartment button : Slide this button to release the compartment cover. 3 Battery compartment cover : Open this cover on the bottom of the printer to insert the optional HP Photosmart Internal Battery.

3 Paper basics Choose and load paper Learn how to choose t he right paper for your print job and how to load it into the in put tray for printing. Choose the right pape r Use HP Advanced Photo Pap er. It is especially designed to w ork with the inks in your printer to create beaut iful photos.
For a full list of suppo rted paper sizes, see Spec ifications . To load pa per 1. Open the output and input trays, and pull out t he input tray extension. 2. Load up to 20 sheets of pape r with the print side or glossy side facing the fro nt of the printer.
4 Print from a memory card This section describes the steps fo r printing photos that are stored o n a memory card. This section contai ns the following topics: ● Get photos from a memory card ● N.

To view photos nine at a time 1. Insert a memory card. 2. Press to view nine photos at a time. 3. Press or to highlight one of the nine photos. 4. Press to change back to vi ewing one by one. Select multiple photos If you want to print more t han one photo, or delete a group of photos all at once, you need to select the p hotos.
3. Use the 4–way a rrow button to sele ct a layout: – Print one photo per sheet – Print two photo s per sheet – Print four photos per sheet 4. Press OK . The printer may rotate your ph otos to fit the layout. Note Borderless printing is th e default.
To print camera-selected photos 1. Insert a memory card that contains camera-selected (DPOF) photos. 2. Select Yes when the printer asks you whether yo u want to print the camera-selected photos, and then press OK .
5 Creative projects Once you have mastered b asic photo printing, experiment w ith some of the other great features the print er has to offer. This section contain s the following topi cs: ● Print p.
Select any photo ➔ Select one or more photos on a memo ry card and use the steps below to turn on panoramic mode. Panoramic mode prints the selected p hotos with a 3:1 aspect ratio. To print pan oramic photos 1. Insert a memory card. 2. Press Menu to open the printer m enu.
Note You can also print 10 x 15 cm (4 x 6 inch) ph oto stickers using HP Self- Adhesive Photo Paper. For this project, use the basic printin g instructions as if you were pri nting standard 10 x 15 cm (4 x 6 inch) photos. Print passport photos To print passp ort photos 1.
To print nine frames from a v ideo clip 1. Insert a memory card th at contains a video clip. 2. Press Men u , select Print Options , and then se lect Video action p rints . A preview of all video clips on th e memory card appears. 3. Use the 4–way arrow butto n to scroll to the video clip you want to print, and then press OK to select it.
3. Select Video Enhanc ement , and then press OK . 4. Use the 4–way arrow button to highlight On , and then press OK . Note When you improve the quality of printe d video clips using this pre ference, print times may be slow er than when this preferen ce is turned off.
4. Select Add Color Effect , and then press OK . 5. Use the 4–way arrow butt on to highlight the color eff ect you want to use, and then press OK . The photo appears on the print er screen with the selected color effect applied . The effect does not change your original photo.

6 Print from other devices This printer can print photos store d on several types of devices i ncluding computers, digital cameras, and i Pods. Each connection type l ets you do different thi ngs.
Print photos from a Bluetooth device Print from any device wi th Bluetooth wireless te chnology to the prin ter. Before you begin To print from a Bluet ooth-enabled device, you will need the fo llowin.

In the HP Photosmart screen, cli ck Start Using the Device . 5. Select the drive f or the HP Photosmart A610 serie s printer, and the select th e location to save photos.

7 Maintain and transport the printer The printer requires very litt le maintenance. Follow the guid elines in this section to exten d the life span of t he printer and printing suppli es, and to ensure that the photos you print are always of th e highest quality.
For best print quality, HP recom mends that you install all reta il print cartridges before the date stamped on the box. To prepare the printer and cartridge 1. Make sure the printer is on. 2. Open the print cartri dge door of the printer. 3. Remove the bright pi nk tape from the cartridge.
Each time you install or rep lace a print cartridge, a messa ge appears on the printer screen asking you to load pa per so the printer can align the cart ridge. This ensures hig h- quality prints. Load photo paper in t he input tray, press OK , and then foll ow the onscreen instruc tions to align the cartridge.
Note If the cartridge o r printer has been recently dropped, yo u may also see white streaks or missing colo rs in your prints. This problem is tempo rary and clears up within 24 hours.
Align the prin t cartridge The first time you insta ll a print cartridge in the printer, the print er aligns it automatically. However, if colors in the printouts are mi saligned, or if the ali gnment page does no t print correctly when you install a ne w print cartridge, use the fol lowing procedure to align the print cartridge.
5. A message appears on the prin ter screen reminding you to loa d plain paper. Load HP Advanced Ph oto Paper so the pri nter can print an alig nment page. 6. Press OK to begin ali gning the print cartridge. When the printer finishe s aligning the cartridge, it print s an alignment page to confir m that the alignment was successful.
Store the pr int cartridge When you store or tran sport the printer, always leave t he active print cartridge inside th e printer. The printer sto res the print cartridge in a protective cap during the power-down cycle. Caution Make sure the printer completes its powe r-down cycle before you unplug the power cord or remove the internal batte ry.
3. Remove all paper fr om the input and output trays, the n close the input and output trays. 4. Push the printer screen do wn into the flat positi on. Note Make sure the printe r completes its power-dow n cycle before you unplug the power cord . This allows the printer to store the print cartridge properly.
8 Troubleshooting The HP Photosmart printer is designed to be reli able and easy to use. This chap ter answers frequen tly asked questions about usi ng the printer and print ing without a computer.
Solution ● Check the printer screen for instru ctions. If you have a digital cam era connected to the printer, check the camera scree n for instructions. If the printer is connected to a computer, check the computer monitor for instructions. ● Turn off the printer.
The printer i s plugged in, but it wil l not turn on. Solution ● The printer may have draw n too much power. If the optional HP Pho tosmart Internal Battery is not installe d in the printer, unplug the prin ter power cord. Wait about 10 seconds, and then plug t he power cord back in.
Printing problems Before contacting HP sup port, read this section for troubleshoot ing tips or go to the online support services at www.hp.com/sup port . The printer does not print border less photos when I print from the control panel. Cause The borderless printing option may be turned off.
No page came out of the printer. Solution ● The printer may need att ention. Read the printer scree n for instructions. ● The power may be off or the re may be a loose connection. Make sure that the power is on and the pow er cord is securely connected.
A blank p age came out o f the printer. Solution ● Check the ink-level icon on th e printer screen. If the print cartridge i s out of ink, replace it. For m ore information, see Replace th e print cartridge . ● You may have begun printing and then cancelled the p rocess.
● The print cartridge m ay need to be aligned . For more informatio n, see Align the print cartridge . ● Photos may be stacked in the o utput tray. The printed su rface of your photos needs to be left exposed to t he air for up to 5 minutes after printing.
● The passkey (PIN ) that the device with Bluetoot h wireless technology is usi ng for the printer may be incorrect. Make sure the correct pa sskey for the printer is entered in the devi ce with Bluetooth wire less technology. ● You may be too far from the p rinter.
Error message: Paper jam. Clear jam then pres s OK. Solution Try the following st eps to clear the paper jam: ● If the paper came part wa y through the front of the printer, gently p ull the paper towards you to remove it.
Error me ssage: Cartridg e service sta tion is stuck. Solution The print cart ridge service station is the co mponent located ben eath the print cartridge cradle th at wipes and caps the print cart ridge for storage. Follow these steps to clear the obst ruction blocking the print cartridge service station: 1.
