6 Cable Installation a nd Removal Installation 1. Insert the cable’s modular con nector into th e socket o n the s canner. 2. Pull gently on the c able strain relief to e nsure th e cable i s installed. Note: If the P owerLink cable is not fully latched, th e unit can p ower intermitt ently.
7 Installa tion R S232, Light Pen or Laser Emulation 1. Turn off the host sys tem. 2. Plug the male, 10 - pin RJ45 end of the PowerL ink cable into the 10 - pin socket on the M S5145. 3. C onnect th e 9 -p in female e nd of the PowerLink cabl e to the appropriate communi c ation port on the ho st device.
8 RS485 1. Turn off the host sys tem . 2. Plug the m ale 10 - pin R J45 end of t he MVC cable into the 10 - pin socket o n the MS5145. 3. C onnect th e other end of the M VC cable to Port 9 of t he host device. 4. Turn on the host dev ice See caution o n page 5.
9 Keyboard Wedg e 1. Turn off the host system . 2. Plug the m ale, 10 - pin R J45 en d of the PowerLink c able into th e 10 - pi n socket on t he MS5145 . 3. Disconnect t he keyboard from the host/PC . 4. Connect th e Y ends of the Pow erLink cable to the key board a nd the host’s keyboard por t.
10 Stand-Alone Keybo ard 1. Turn off the ho st system. 2. Connect th e 10 - pin RJ45 male connector in to the j ack on t he Eclip se. There w ill be a ‘clic k’ when t he connection is made. 3. Connect th e L - shaped plug of the power supp ly into the power ja ck on the Power Link cable.

14 Audible Indicators When the M S5145 scan ner is operat ional, t he scanner provi des audible feedback to indicate th e statu s of the s canner and t he last scan. Eight sett ings are availabl e for the tone of t he beep (nor mal, s ix alternate tones and no tone).
15 Visual Indicators The MS 5145 is equipp ed with a r ed LED and green LED, w hich i ndicate the scanner’s stat e and the status of the curr ent scan w hen the u nit is in op eration.

20 Symptom s Possib le Causes Solution The unit p owers up, but do es not scan and/or beep. The unit is tr ying t o scan a parti cular symbology that is not enabled. UPC/EAN , Code 39, int erleaved 2 of 5, Code 9 3, Code 12 8 and Codabar are enabled by defau lt.
