1 - 1 1 Getting Star ted Honeywell’ s Stratos™ bioptic scanner/scale inco rporates a rev oluti o nary hybrid platform that enables retailers to maximize cus- tomer throughput for r apid pass-through scanning of linea r ba r codes, plus area imaging technology for scanning of 2D and mobile bar codes.
1 - 2 P ower Installation The P ower Supply (A C/DC) should be conn ected to an A C outlet th at is free of electr ical noise (clean). A qualified electri- cian can deter mine the amount of electr ical noise on the A C lin e . All power supplies must be properly grounded.
1 - 3 Features of the Stratos Bioptic A udible and Visual Indicators The Stratos bioptic provides audible tones and visual in dicators that indicate the status of the unit. See Input/Output Settings b eginning on page 4-1 to change any of these settings.
1 - 4 Push Button Functionality There is a ring of 4 push butt ons on the front o f the de vice. The f ollow ing is a brief description of the def ault settings f or the push buttons . F or complete functionality and programming options, refer to Button Controls on pag e 4-4.
1 - 5 F1 Programmab le Functions Press this button once quickly to input a number of repeat sca ns. F or example , if there are 6 cans, the cashier would scan the first can, then push the F1 b utton 5 times quickly to indicate 5 more repeats of that scan.

2 - 9 Step 3. Use cable ties to secure the cables to the sides so they won’t interfere with installation. Note: Cable ties are not included with the Stratos 2700. Placing the Stratos Biopt ic in the Check Stand Pull up the lift handle l ocated in front of the horizontal windo w .
2 - 10 Alternate Lift Method There are also two fi nger handles located near the base of the vert ical window . S wing them up into position with your inde x fingers. Hook both your inde x finge rs into these h andles and rest both thumbs against the ver tical window fr ame f or added stability .
2 - 11 Place the Platter Place the platter in position over the horizontal window . Adjust the Height Make sure the platter is at the correct height and completely lev el. The front edge o f th e platter should be fl ush with the check stand. T o adjust the height, tur n the lev eling screws.
2 - 12 Remov e the platter and mak e sure the scanner is lev e l both with and without the platter i nstalled. For installations that do not hav e hanging ledges, adjust the lev elin g f eet a t the bottom 4 cor ners of the scanner until the platter is at the co rrect height.
2 - 13 If the scale is not lev el, it may f all ou t of calibration and can not be used. Y ou must lev el it in order f o r it to perf or m pro perly . Once the 2700 is at the correct height and le vel, loc k down the lev eling screws with the bolt at the bottom.
2 - 14 The images from the video came r a are shown in the upper left cor ner of the scanner’ s vertical tower . Connecting EAS Checkpoint® When connecting to a Checkpoint EAS system , connect the Checkpoint EAS interlock cab le (if required) to the EAS inter- lock port on the left side of the 2700 (see Device Ports on page 2-8).
2 - 15 If using a USB Plus Power connection to the host (12V), match the turquoise cable conn ector to the turquoise receptor on the 27 00. Step 3. Connect the other end of the interfac e cabl e to the appropriate communicat ion po rt on the host's scale de vice.

3 - 1 3 Pr ogramming the Bioptic Scanner Interface Intr oduction This chapter descr ibes how to progr a m the Stratos bioptic scanner for the de sired interf ace. T o progra m the scale interf ace, refer to Programming the Scale Interface, beginni ng on page 6-1.
3 - 2 Resetting the Custom Defaults If you w ant the custom def a ult settings restored to your scanner , sca n the Activ ate Custom De faults bar code below . This is the recommended default bar code for most users. It resets the scanner to the custom defau lt sett ings.
3 - 3 USB Interface USB PC or Ma cintosh Ke yboard Scan one of the follo wing codes to program the scanner f o r USB PC K eyboard or USB Macintosh K eyboard. Scanning these codes also adds a CR suffix. USB HID Scan the follo w ing code to program the scanner for USB HID bar code scanners.
3 - 4 USB Serial Commands USB Serial Emulation Scan the follo wing code to program the scanner to emulate a regular RS232-based COM P or t. If y ou are using a Mic- rosoft® Windows® PC , you will need to download a driver from the Hone ywell website (www.
3 - 5 CTS/R TS Emulation A CK/NAK Mode USB Host P ower When using host power f or a USB interface, y ou may use the f ollowing settings to conser ve po wer : Scan No P ower Management if the scanner is self-powered. Scan Reduced Motor Speed During P ower On if the scann er is being powered by the USB connection from the host.
3 - 6 Host System Plug and Play Codes RS485 Scan one of the following “Plug and Pla y” codes to program th e scanner for an IBM POS terminal interface at address 4B. Note: After scanni ng one of these codes, you must power cycle the cash register.
3 - 7 **Suffixes programmed for Code 128 wi th IBM 4683 Port 9 HHBCR-2 Interface IBM 46XX - Scanner Only The f ollowing bar code sets the sca nner f or IBM 46 XX RS485 emulation, scanner-only protocol def aults.
3 - 8 USB - IBM SureP os Scan one of the follo wing “Plug and Play” codes to prog ram the scanner for an IBM SureP os (USB handheld scanner) or IBM SureP os (USB tabletop scanner) interf ace. Note: After scanni ng one of these codes, you must power cycle the cash register.
3 - 9 V erif one ® Ruby T erminal Default Settings Scan the following bar code to prog ram the scanner for a V erifone Ruby terminal. This bar code sets the baud rate to 1200 bps and the data format to 8 data bits, no parity bit, 1 stop bi t.
3 - 10 Wincor Nixdorf Beetle™ T erminal Default Settings Scan the following bar code to configure the scanner f or a Winc or Nixdorf Beetle terminal. 3 - 20 Ke yboard Style This programs ke yboard styles, such as Caps L oc k and Shift Lock. If you hav e used Keyboard Conversion se ttings, the y will ov err ide any of the f ollowing K eyboard Style settings. Default = Regular . Regular is used when you normally have the Caps Loc k key off .
3 - 21 Shift L ock is used when y ou normally hav e the Shift Lock ke y on (not common to U.S . keyboards). A utomatic Caps Lock is used if y ou change the Caps Loc k key on and off . The software tracks and reflects if y ou hav e Caps Lock on or off .
3 - 22 Ke yboard Modifier s This modifies special k eyboard features, such as CTRL+ ASCII codes and T urbo Mo de . T urbo Mo de . Control + X (Cont rol + ASCII) Mode On : The scanner sends key combinations f or ASCII control characters f or values 00-1F .
3 - 23 Numeric Keypad Mode: Sends numeric characters as if entered from a numeric ke ypad . Def ault = Off. Numeri c Keypad Mode On * Numeric Keypad Mode Off.
3 - 24 RS232 Baud Rate Baud Rate sends the data from the scanner to the ter minal at t he specified rate . The host ter minal must be set f or th e same baud rate as the scanner.
3 - 25 RS232 W ord Length: Data Bits, Stop Bits, and P arity Data Bits sets the word length at 7 or 8 bits of data per character . If an applicat ion requires onl y ASCII He x characters 0 through 7F decimal (te xt, d igits, and punct uation), sel ect 7 data bits.

3 - 27 RS232 Receiver Timeout The unit stays a wak e to receive data until the RS232 Receiver Ti meout e xpires. A bar code read resets the timeout. When an RS232 receiver is sleeping, a character may be sent to wak e up the receiver and reset the timeout.
3 - 28 RTS/CTS Off, RTS Inactive Flow Control, No Timeo ut Character-Based Flow Control, No Timeout Two-Direction Flow Co ntrol Flow Control with Timeout Character-Based Flow Contro l with Tim eout CT.
3 - 29 RS232 Timeout When using Flow Control with Timeout, you m ust program the l ength of the delay y ou want to wait for CTS from the host. Set the length (in milliseconds) for a timeout by scanning the bar code below , then setting the timeout (from 1-65535 mil li- seconds) by scanning digits from the inside back co ver , then scanning Save .
3 - 30 AC K / N A K After transmitting data, the scanner waits for an ACK characte r (hex 06) or a NAK character (hex 15) response from the host. If ACK is received, the communications cycle is comple ted and the scann er looks for more bar codes.
3 - 31 Communication Timeout Be eper This selection programs the scanner to issue an error b eep when a communication timeout has occurre d. The error beep sound is programmed using Number of Be eps/LED Flas hes – Error (page 4-11). Def ault = On. Timeout Retries This setting limi ts the number of Co mmunication Timeout retries.
3 - 32 RS232 Defaul ts If you w ant the custom RS232 def au lt se ttings restored to y our sca nner , scan the RS232 Defaults bar code below . This resets the scanner to the cu stom default settings (see Settin g Custom Defaults on page 3-1). If the re are no custom defaults, it will reset the scanner to the factory default settin gs.
3 - 33 NCR Scanner Scale Mode Scan the NCR Scanner Scale Mode On bar code to select the NCR scanner/scale message f or mat. (F or more infor- mation, refer to the NCR Scanner/Scale Progra mmer’ s Guide.
3 - 34 Block Chec k Character When this selection is set to Tr a n s m i t , the NCR Block Check Character (BCC) is e xpected with incomi ng messages and transmitted with outgoing messages. Default = T ransmit. NCR Prefix This selection allows you to program an NCR-specific prefix.
3 - 35 NCR NOF (Not-on-File) Number of Beeps When using NCR NOF (Not-on-File) Error , set the number of beeps or error tone s, from 1 to 7, the scanner emits when it receiv es an NOF from the POS system. Def ault = 1. Do Not W ait for NCR W eight A get weight command waits until either a weight is ready or the command is canceled.
3 - 36 Timeout When us ing NCR Weight Timeout , you must program the length of the delay y ou want to wait f or a weight from the scale. Set the length (in milliseconds) f or a timeout by sc anning the bar code below , then setting the timeo ut (from 1- 65535 milliseconds) by scanning digits from the Progra mming Chart , then scanning Save .
4 - 1 4 Input/Output Settings P ower Up Settings W ake Activation When W ake Activation Off is selected, the Sound button can be used to wak e the scanner . When Wake Activ ation On is selected, the scanner will w ake when it senses activity , such as a cashier walking into the space where the scanner is located.
4 - 2 Def ault = Hiber nate Mode. P ower Save Mode Ti meout Use this selection to set a timeout (in seconds) for the scanner when using P ower Sa ve Mode . When this time has elapsed with no acti vity , the scanner will enter th e P ower Sa ve Mode selected.
4 - 3 Motor Idle/Sleep State These sele ctions prog ram the motor to Off or On when the scanner is in idle mode or in sleep mo de . De fau l t = O ff. * Sleep - Lasers Off Idle - Lasers Blinking Sleep.
4 - 4 P ower Up Beeper The scanner can be programmed to beep when it’ s powered up . Scan the Off bar code(s) if you don’t want a power up beep . Default = P ower Up Beeper On. Button Contr ols T o program the buttons for additional functionality , see the descr iptions that f ollow .
4 - 5 Last Scan Repeat When Last Scan Repeat On is set, the cashier can press the F1 b utton q uic kly to i nput a number of repeat scans. F or e x ample , if there are 6 identical cans, the cashier would sc an the first can, then push the F1 button 5 times quic kly to indicate 5 more repeats of that scan.
4 - 6 Sound Loc k When Sound Loc k is set to On , a user cannot tur n off the beeper using t he Sound button. Pressing the Sound button only scrolls through the volume settings f or the scanner’ s beeper , but will not allow the sound to be tur ned off .
4 - 7 Erro r Condition When Error Conditi on On is set, the cashier can push the Sound button to clear errors (visuals, beeps, and notifica- tions). When Error Conditi on Off is set, visible and audible error conditions remain. Def ault = Error Condition On.
4 - 8 the Programming Chart inside the back cov er , then scanning Save . Default = 50. Beep on BEL Character Y ou ma y wish to f orce the scanner to beep upon a command sent from the host. If y ou scan the Beep on BEL On bar code below , the scanner will beep e very time a BEL char acter is received from the host.
4 - 9 Beeper - T ransmit Or der The beeper transmit order deter mines when the go od read b eep occurs. The scanner can be set to emit the good read beep either before or after data transmission. Def ault = Before T ransmissi on. Beeper V olume – Good Read The beeper volume codes modify the volume of the beep the scanner emits on a good read.
4 - 10 Beeper Duration – Good Read The beeper duration codes modify the length of the beep the scanner emits on a good read. Def ault = Nor mal. Number of Beeps – Good Read The number of beeps of a good read can be programmed from 1 - 9. The same number of beeps will be applied to the beeper and LED in response to a good read.
4 - 11 Programming Chart inside the back cover of this manual. Def a ult = 1. Beep on EAS Deactivation After a good read, the beeper will beep quickly (chir p) upon EAS deactiv a tion when Beep on EAS Deactivation is set to On . If you do not w ant a chir p on EAS deactivation, scan Beep on EAS Deactivation Off .
4 - 12 Save bar code on the Programming Cha rt inside the back cover of this manual. Def ault = 1. LED Settings Disabled Scanner LED Flash When the scanner is disabled b y the POS system, the LEDs can be set to flash b y scanning LED Flash On . If y ou do not want the LE Ds to flash, scan LED Flash Off .
4 - 13 User-Specified Reread Dela y If you wa nt to set your own length for the reread dela y , scan th e bar code below , the n set the delay (from 0-30,000 millisec- onds) by scanning digits from the inside back cov e r , then scanning Save . 2D Reread Delay Sometimes 2D bar codes can take longer to read than other bar codes.
4 - 14 Same Symbol T est When Same Symbol T est On is scanned, the current ba r code must be 1 c haracter different from the pre vious bar code in order to be read. When Same Symbol T est Off is scanned, the bar codes must be 25% different to be read.
4 - 15 Character Activation Mode Y ou may use a character sent from the host to trigge r the scanner to begin scanning. When the activation character is received , the scanner continues scanning u nti.
4 - 16 Character Activ ati on Laser Timeout Y ou can set a timeout for the length of time the la ser remains on and attempting to decode bar codes when usi ng Character Activation Mode.
4 - 17 Output Sequence Editor This programming selection all ows y ou to program the scanner to output data (when scanning more than one symb ol) in whatev er order your application requires, regardless of t he order in which the ba r codes are scanned.
4 - 18 41 star t character match f or Code 39, 41h = “A” FF ter mination string for first code 6A code identifier f or Code 128 9999 code length that must match for Code 128, 9999 = all lengths 42.
4 - 19 cov er of this manual, then scanning Save . Def a ult = 5000 msec. Sequence Match Beeper By default, the scanner beeps when a sequence match is f ound. If you w ant th e scanner to remain silent, scan the f ollow- ing Sequence Match Beeper Off bar code.
4 - 20 When the output sequen ce is Off , the bar code data is output to the host as the scanner decodes it. Default = Off . No Read With No Read turned On , the scanner notifies you if a code cannot be read . If using an EZConfig-Scanning T ool Scan Data Window (see page 12-2 ), an “NR” appears when a code cannot be read.
5 - 1 5 Pr ogramming an A uxiliary Scanner Intr oduction This chapter descr ibes how to progr a m auxiliar y sca nners that will be connect ed to the Stratos bi optic. Scanner to Bioptic Comm unication The f ollowing settings are used to set up communicat io n betw een Honeywell scanners and bioptic scanners.
5 - 2 A ux P or t Configuration Codes Honeywell Scanner A ux P or t Configuration Scan the follo wing bar code to configure the Stratos biop tic aux por t to use a Honeyw ell auxiliar y scanner . Note: See Auxili ary Honeywell Scanner Configuration Codes beginning on page B-1 for common Honeywell hand-held scanner configuration codes.
5 - 3 bar code is read with the aux scanner. Scan Good Read Beep - Bi optic and A ux Scanner to sound the good read beep from both the Stratos bioptic and the auxiliar y scanner when the bar code is read with the aux scanner . De f ault = Go od Read Beep - Bioptic and Aux Scanner .

6 - 1 6 Scale Pr ogramming the Scale Interface RS232 OPOS - Single Cable Scan the f ollowing programming codes to set up the scanner/scale using the OPOS dr iv ers when connected via a sin- gle RS232 cable. Baud Rate/Parity sets the baud rate to 9600 bps and the data format to 8 data bits, no parity , 1 stop bit.
6 - 2 POS Beep on Send W eight Note: This sel ection should only be used for POS “weight-on-demand” applicati ons. Do not use when th e POS continually asks for the weight or incessant beeping will be heard. Scan the Beep on Send W eight code belo w is you w ant to hear a beep e very time the scanner transmits a stable weight.
6 - 3 Scale Status Bytes Scan one of the follo wing bar codes to set how many scale status b y tes to send to the host from the scanner . These selections apply to RS485 and IBM OEM protocols. Def aul t = 3 Bytes. Scale T ype Scan the appropr iate bar code f or th e type of scale that’ s attached.
6 - 4 Scale Calibration The scale m ust be calibrated if: • It is a first time installation • The scale cannot be re-zeroed • The calibration verificati on tests indicate errors • There is a change in the units of measure (i.
6 - 5 5. Wait 5 minutes up to 30 minutes after power up before proceeding. If the unit h a s been subjected to cold, it may take longer to get to room temperature. 6. Place the 30.0 lb. weights or the 15 kg weig hts on the ce nter of the scale platter.
6 - 6 Step 1. Press the Zero key on the remo te display several times until Grp 2 Step1 is displayed. Step 2. Either display will initially display x = NO . Press the Tare key to change this to YES : Step 3. Press the Zero key to s elect YES . Step 4.
6 - 7 Step 10. After 3 to 5 seconds of inactivity, pr ess the Zero key to accept and begi n taking the zero ca pacity calibration reading. If the scale is unable to capture a stable readin g it will not store any value and will advance to the next step.
6 - 8 Step 1. Use a thin rod or straightened paper clip to pu sh down through the exposed pinhole and depress the calibra tion switch. A scale beep sounds. The scale is now in service mode. Step 2. Use the vertical window to scan a bar code below to cal i brate the scale.
6 - 9 Step 6. Remove the full capacity weight from the scale platter. The green LED blinks 5 times. Wai t at least 3 seconds for scale stability, then press the Sound button once. Th ere is a short delay followed by 5 short beeps th at indicates that the return zero load value has been stored.
