The generator is a pot ential source of electr ical shock if misused. Do not expose the generator to moisture, rain or snow. Do not let the genera tor get wet, a nd do n ot opera te it with wet ha nds. Exhaust contains poisonous carbon monoxide gas that can build up to dangerous levels in closed areas.

5 GENERATOR SAFETY SAFETY LABEL LOCATIONS If a label comes off or becomes hard to read, contact your Honda generator dealer for a replacement. These labels warn you of potential hazards that can cause serious injury.

7 Carbon Monoxide Hazards Operator Responsibility IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION Be sure that anyone who operates the generator receives proper instruction. Do not let children operate th e generator without parental supervision. Honda generators are designed to give safe and depend able service if operated according to instructions.
− − − 8 Electric Shock Hazar ds Fire and Burn Hazards Fuel vapors are extremely flam mable and may ignite after the engine has started. Make sure that any spilled fuel has been wiped up before starting the generator. Gasoline is extremely flammable and is explosive under certain conditions.

13 OUTPUT INDICATOR LIGHT OVERLOAD INDICATOR LIGHT OVERLOAD INDICA TOR LIGHT (RED) OUTPUT INDICAT OR LIGHT (GREEN) The output indicator light (green) is illuminated when t he generator is operating normally. It indicates tha t the generator is producing electrical power at the receptacles.
14 OIL ALERT SYSTEM GROUND TERMINAL GROUND TERMINAL OIL ALERT INDICAT OR LIGHT (RED) The generator ground terminal is connected to the frame of the generator, the metal non-current-carrying parts of the generator, and the ground terminals of each receptacle.
15 PARALLEL OPERATION OUTLETS ECO-THROTTLE SWITCH ON: OFF: TM O O F F F F PARALLEL OPERATION OUTLETS O O N N ECO-THROTTLE S WITCH The Eco-Throttle system automatically reduces engine sp eed when all loads are turned off or disconnected.
16 AC CIRCUIT PROTECTOR DC RECEPTACLE DC CIRCUIT PROTECTOR PUSH AC CIRC UIT PROTEC TOR AC RECEPTACLES AC CIRC UIT PROTEC TOR ON OFF ON OFF DC CIRC UIT PROTEC TOR DC RECEPTACLE PUSH The AC circuit protector will automatically s witch OFF if there is a short circuit or a significant overload of the generator at the AC receptacles.
17 GENERATOR USE CONNECTIONS TO A BUILDING ELECTRICAL SYSTEM Improper connections to a building electrical system can allow electrical current from the generator to backfeed into the utility lines.
18 SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Do not lay the generator on its sid e when moving, storing, or operating it. Oil may leak and dam age the engine or your proper ty. There may be Federal or State Occupational Safety a nd Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, local codes, or ordinances that apply to the intended use of the gene rator.
19 AC APPLICATIONS The total power requirements (VA) of all appliances connected mus t be considered. Appliance and power tool m anufacturers usually list rating information near the model number or serial number. For continuous operation, do not exceed the rated power.
20 AC OPERATION OVERLOAD INDICA TOR LIGHT (RED) OUTPUT INDICAT OR LIGHT (GREEN) Most motorized appliances require more than their rated wattage for startup. Plug in the appliance. Before connecting an appliance to the generator, make sur e that it is in good order and that its electrical rating does not exceed that of the generator.
21 AC PARALLEL OPERATION APPLICATIONS Substantial overloading that continuously lights the overload indicator light (red) may damage the generator. Marginal overloading that temporarily lights the overload indicator light (red) may shorten the service life of the generator.

23 AC PARALLEL OPERATION PARALLEL OPERATION KIT (optional equipment ) Connect the parallel operation kit between the two EU2000i generators following the instructions supplied with the kit. If the generators are overloaded (see page ), or if there is a short circuit in a connected appliance, the overload ind icator lights (red) will go ON.
− ＋− 24 DC OPERATION Connecting the batter y charging cable (optional equipm ent): The battery gives off explosive gases; keep sparks, flames and cigarettes away. Provide adequate ventilation when char ging or using batteries . WARNIN G: Wash hands after handling.
− ＋ − 25 Disconnecting the batter y charging cable: BLACK LEAD RED LEAD BATTERY CHARGING CABLE (optional equipment ) An overloaded DC circuit, excessive c urrent draw by the battery, or a wiring problem will trip the DC circuit protector (PUSH button extends out).
26 ECO-THROTTLE SYSTEM O O F F F F O O N N ECO-THROTTLE S WITCH TM TM Appliances with large start-up p ower demands may not allow the engine to reach normal operating r pm when they are connected to the generator. Turn the Eco-Throttle to the OFF position a nd connect the appliance to the generator.
27 HIGH ALTITUDE OPERATION At high altitude, the standard carburetor air/ fu el mixture will be too rich. Performance will decrease, and fuel consumption will increase.
28 PRE-OPERATION CHECK ENGINE OIL AMBIENT TEMPERATU RE SAE VISCOSITY GRADES COVER SCREW MAINTENANC E COVER Check the oil level BEFORE EACH USE with the generator on a level surface and the engine stopped. Use 4-stroke motor oil that meets or exceeds the requirem ents for API service classification SJ or later (or equivalent).
29 DIPSTICK OIL FILLER CAP UPPER LIMIT Remove the oil filler cap and wipe the dipstick clean. Check the oil level by inse rting the dipstick into the f iller neck without screwing it in. If the level is l ow, fill to the u pper limit of the o il filler neck with the recommen ded oil.
30 REFUELING Gasoline is highly flammable and explosive. You can be burned or seriously injured when handling fuel. Stop the engine and keep heat, sparks, and flame away.

32 FUEL RECOMMENDATIONS This engine is c ertified to operate o n regular unleaded gasoline with a pump octane rating of 86 or higher. Never use stale or c ontaminated gasoline or a n oil/ gasoline mixture. Avoid getting dirt or water in the fuel tank.
33 STARTING THE ENGINE STARTING THE ENGINE Carbon mo noxide ga s is tox ic. Breathing it ca n cause unconsciousness and even kill you. Avoid any enclosed areas, partially enclosed areas or activities that may expose you to carbon monoxide. For your safety, avoid starting or operating the generator in an enclosed area such as a garage.
34 If the choke lever was moved to the CLOSED position to start the engine, gradually move it to the OPEN pos ition as the e ngine warms up. If you wish to us e the Eco-Throttl e system, turn the Eco -Throttle switch to the ON position af ter the engine has warmed up f or 2 or 3 minutes.
35 STOPPING THE ENGINE STOPPING THE ENGINE Unplug appliances from the generator receptacles. The fuel valve will automatically close. To stop the engine in an emergency, simply turn the engine switch to the OFF position. Under normal condi tions, use the foll owing procedure.
36 MAINTENANCE THE IMPORTANCE OF MAINTENANCE Maintenance, replacement, or r epair of the emission control devices and systems may be perform ed by any engine repair establishment or individual, using parts that are ‘‘certified’’ t o EPA standards.
− − − 37 MAINTENANCE SAFETY Safety Precautions Carbon monoxide poisoning from engine exhaust . Burns from h ot parts. Injury from moving parts. Failure to properl y follow maintenance inst ructions and precautions can cause you to be seriously hurt or killed.
38 EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM INFORMATION Source of Emissions Tampering and Altering The U.S. and California Clean Air Acts The combustion process produces car bon monoxide, oxides of nitrogen, and hydrocarbons.
39 Problems That May Affect Emissions Replacement Parts Maintenance If you are aware of any of the follow ing symptoms, have your engine inspected and repaired by your servicing dealer. Hard starting or stalling after starting. Rough idle. Misfiring or backfiring under load.
− − − 40 AIR INDEX (Models certified for sale in California) The Air Index Information hang tag must r emain on the generator until it is sold. Remove the hang tag before operating the generator .

42 ENGINE OIL CHANGE OIL FILLER NECK UPPER LIMIT Drain the used oil while the engine is warm. Warm oil drains quickly and completely. Place a suitable container next to the engine to catch the used oil. Turn the engine switch and vent lever to the OFF positio n to reduce the possibility of fuel leakage.
43 Wash your hands with soap and water after handling used oil. Improper disposal of engine oil c an be harmful to the enviro nment. If you change your own oil, please dispos e of it properly. Put it in a sealed container, and ta ke it to a recycling c enter.
44 AIR CLEANER SERVICE Using gasoline or flammable solvent t o clean the a ir filter can cause a fire or explosion. Use only soapy water or nonflammable solvent. AIR CLEANER COVER AIR CLEANER COVER SCREW OUTER FILTER COVER SCREW MAINTENANCE COVER MAIN FILTER A dirty air cleaner will restrict air flow to the carburetor.
45 AIR CLEANER CASE AIR FILTERS AIR CLEANER CASE SCREW RUBBER SEAL Reinstall the air filters. Make sure that the rubber seal is set in the groove of the air cleaner cover. Reinstall the air cleaner cover, and tighten the air cleaner cover screw. Reinst all the mainte nanc e cov er, and tighten the cover sc rew securely.
46 SPARK PLUG SERVICE Recommended spark plug: SPARK PLUG MAINTENANC E COVER SPARK PLUG CAP SPARK PLUG WRENCH SPARK PLUG CAP In or der to se rvice t he spark plu g, you wi ll need a spark plug w rench (commercially available). To ensure proper engine operation, the spark plug must be properly gapped and free of deposits.
− −− − − 47 0.024 0.028 in (0.60 0.70 mm) SEALING WASHER A f t e rt h es p a r kp l u gi ss e a t e d ,t i g h t e nw i t has p a r k p l u gw r e n c ht o compress the w asher. If installing a new spark plug, tighten 1/ 2 turn after the spark plug seats to compres s the washer.
48 SPARK ARRESTER MAINTENANCE MUFFLER GASKET SPARK ARRESTER MUFFLER 6m mB O L T S 6 mm SCREWS MUFFLER PROTECTOR Clean the spark arrester as follows: If the generator has b een running, the muffler will be very hot. Allow it to cool before proceeding. The spark arrester must be serviced every 100 hours t o maintain its efficiency.
49 Use a brush to re move carb on dep osits f rom the spark a rrester screen. Inspect the screen for breaks or tears and replace it if necessary. Check the muffler gask et; replace if damaged. Rein stall the muffler gasket, the spark arrester, the muffler, and the muff ler protector in the reverse order of rem oval.
50 TRANSPORTING/STORAGE TRANSPORTING Take care not to drop or stri ke the generator when transporting. Do not place heavy objects on the generator. To prevent fuel spillage when transporting, the gene.
＊ ＊ ＊ 51 STORAGE STORAGE TIME RECOMMENDED SERVICE PROCEDURE TO PREVENT HARD STARTING Before storing the unit for an extended period: 1. Be sure the storage area is free of excessive humidity and dust.
52 Storage Procedure You can be burned or seriously injured when handling fuel. Gasoline is highly flammable and explosive. Keep heat, sparks, and flame away. Handle fuel only outdoors. Wipe up spills immediately. DRAIN SCREW NON-CALIFORNIA TYPE SHOWN Drain the gasoline.
53 Change the engine oil (see page 42). Remove the spark plug, and pour about a tablespo on of clean engine oil into the cylinder. Cr ank the engine several revolutions to distribute the oil, then reinstall t he spark plug. Reinstall the spark plug cap on the spark plug securely.
54 TROUBLESHOOTING When the engine will not start: Is there fuel in the tank? Is there enough oil in the engine? Is the spark plug in good condition? If the engine still does not start, take the generator to an authorized Honda generator dealer. Refill the fuel tank (see page 30).
