2 GPSMAP 76Cx Owner’s Manual G ettInG S t arted Batteries, microSD Card, and Lanyard The GPSMAP 76Cx operates on two AA batteries (not included), which are located in the back of the unit. Y ou can use Alkaline, NiMH, or Lithium batteries. See page 34 for information on setting the battery type.

Creating and Using W aypoints W aypoints are locations or landmarks you record and store in your GPS.

On the Map page, use the ROCKER to move the pointer to the map item you want to mark. 2. Press and quickly release ENTER/M�RK to capture the pointer location and open the information page for the map item.

Projecting a Waypoint Create a new waypoint by projecting the distance and bearing from one location to a new location.

Set Proximity —program an alarm to sound when you are within a specied radius of an item. See page 9 . Add T o Route —include this item on a new route or add it to an existing route.
14 GPSMAP 76Cx Owner ’s Manual B aSIc o pera tIon Finding a Waypoint The W aypoints page contains a list of all saved waypoints. W aypoints are stored in alphanumeric order and are identied by an assigned symbol. T o nd a waypoint: 1. Press FIND .

NOTE: If your unit has a GPS x, the < Enter Region> eld is populated with your current region. Y ou do not have to specify a city in the <Enter City> , as the database has information for the entire region.

18 GPSMAP 76Cx Owner ’s Manual B aSIc o pera tIon Using T racks The T racks feature creates an electronic bread crumb trail or “track log” on the Map page as you travel. The track log contains information about points along its path, including time, location, elevation, and depth (depth requires NMEA input, see page 35 ).
GPSMAP 76Cx Owner ’s Manual 19 B aSIc o pera tIon Log T rack to Data Card — records the current track log to the microSD card in addition to the unit’ s internal memory . Using this option allows you to record a large number of track points (depending on the capacity of the microSD card.

GPSMAP 76Cx Owner ’s Manual 25 M aIn p aGeS M aIn p aGes The GPSMAP 76Cx has six main pages: Satellite page, T rip Computer page, Map page, Compass page, Altimeter page, and the Main Menu. Cycle through these pages by pressing the P AGE key to move forward or pressing the QUIT key to reverse.
26 GPSMAP 76Cx Owner ’s Manual M aIn p aGeS Satellite Page The Satellite page appears when you turn the unit on and shows the receiver status, satellite locations, satellite signal strength, and the receiver ’ s current location. Satellite Page Options Use W ith GPS Off/On —enables you to turn the GPS receiver on or off.
GPSMAP 76Cx Owner ’s Manual 27 M aIn p aGeS ROCKER , the GPSMAP 76Cx enters pan mode, which moves the map to keep the white arrow (map pointer) within the screen area. When you are in pan mode, you can move the map pointer about the page to highlight and identify map items.
28 GPSMAP 76Cx Owner ’s Manual M aIn p aGeS Map Orientation There are two map orientations in the Map Setup option North Up orients the map like a paper map. T rack Up orients the map in the direction of travel. Map Page Options Stop (Resume) Navigation —stops/resumes navigation.
