8 GPSmap 76C GPS Navigation The Map P age Using the Map Page The Map Page is the primary navigation feature of the GPSmap 76C. The Map Page displays a detailed map of the area surr ounding your cur - rent location. It allows you to pan the map with the ROCKER key as well as view your progr ess when navigating.
9 GPSmap 76C GPS Navigation The Map P age Zoom In Using Map Page F eatures Use the Zoom In and Out buttons to change the map scale in order to show more map area with less detail or less map ar ea with more detail. Press and hold to Zoom the map scale rapidly .

Access the Map Page Options Menu, select “Measure Distance” and press ENTER to activate.
14 GPSmap 76C GPS Navigation The Compass P age Using the Compass Page The Compass Page is your guide to accurate and efficient navigation. It uses traditional navigation displays to provide navigation information. Whenever navigation is in progr ess, the Compass Page provides navigation data and directions.

16 GPSmap 76C GPS Navigation The T rip Computer P age Using the T rip Computer Page The T rip Computer Page provides you with a wide variety of travel data useful when navigating a long distance. It indicates your current speed, average speed, trip odometer and many other helpful statistics useful for navigation.
17 GPSmap 76C GPS Navigation The Mark Waypoint P age The Mark W aypoint Page allows you to mark and record your curr ent (or any other) location as a waypoint and displays name for that waypoint and a waypoint symbol. Y ou can mark your current location at any time.
18 GPSmap 76C GPS Navigation T o create a waypoint using the map panning arrow: 1. With the Map P age displayed, move the panning arrow (map pointer) to the map item you want use as a w aypoint. If there is information in the mapping database for that location it will highlight momentarily and display a name or address .
19 GPSmap 76C GPS Navigation A waypoint location can be averaged over time for more accuracy , but only while the GPS has a fix on the location and before saving it. T o average a Waypoint Location using measur ements over time: 1. With the “New W aypoint” information page displayed, press the MENU k ey to display the page options menu.

T o use the Find Item Information P age Options Menu: 1. With an Information page displayed for a Find item, press the MENU k ey to display the Options Menu.
25 GPSmap 76C • Change Reference - Point to a new location on the map Page using the Panning Arrow and pr ess ENTER . • Set Pr oximity - Program an alarm to sound when you are within a speci fied radius of an item defined by the Information Page. (Refer to the Section on Proximity W aypoints on page 58 for detailed information.
26 GPSmap 76C Searching for a W aypoint The W aypoints List is your storage file for all created and saved waypoints. W aypoints can be created from marking your location, pointing to a place on the map or saving any other Find item (i.e. city , restaurant) as a waypoint.

29 GPSmap 76C GPS Navigation Using Find Searching for an Inter state Exit The Find Exits feature allows you to sear ch for the nearest Interstate Exits. 1. Press the FIND button to display the Find Menu. 2. Select the Exits icon, then press ENTER to display the Exit List.
30 GPSmap 76C Searching for a Marine P oint The Find Marine Point feature allows you to sear ch for the marine T ide Prediction Stations pr ovided in the marine basemap contained in your GPSmap 76C .
31 GPSmap 76C T o find a Wreck or Obstruction 1. Press the FIND key to display the Find Menu. 2. Select the Marine P oints icon, then press ENTER to display the sub-icon(s) for marine items supported by the basemap and downloaded detailed marine charts .

34 GPSmap 76C Searching for a P oint of Interest Y ou can use the Find Point of Interest feature to locate a nearby restaurant, lodging, landmark, public building, park, etc. However , you must have downloaded MapSource detailed mapping that supports this feature otherwise these options, plus Address and Intersection options, are not functional.
35 GPSmap 76C GPS Navigation The Main Menu About the Main Menu The Main Menu is the directory for all unit features not in the Main Page sequence with the excep- tion of Mark W aypoint and Find, which are accessed by pressing the FIND and ENTER/MARK keys.
36 GPSmap 76C GPS Navigation Using a T rack Log The T racks feature creates an electr onic trail on the map page as you travel about and is referred to as a T rack Log. A track log contains infor - mation about points along its path, including time, position, elevation and depth (requires NMEA input, see page 48).
37 GPSmap 76C GPS Navigation Using T racks the Distance , T ime and Auto options. Because a track is made of a series of points that defi ne your path of travel, they can be placed a specifi ed “Distance” apart or placed at a “T ime” interv al you specify .

42 GPSmap 76C Using Routes GPS Navigation Methods of navigating to a destination: • When you activate the “Go T o” button on the Information Page for a User W aypoint or other Find Menu items, the GPSmap 76C creates a straight path (point to point) from your curr ent location to that location.

Up to four user selectable data fields display information such as speed, distance, time to next point on the route, etc.
47 GPSmap 76C GPS Navigation The Setup Menu Setup Menu The Setup Menu The Setup Menu allows you to customize the GPSmap 76C to your personal preferences. Each selectable setup page is identified by an icon, which when highlighted displays the page when you press ENTER .
48 GPSmap 76C GPS Navigation Interface Setup Interface Setup The Interface Setup Page allows you to control the input/output format used when connecting your unit to a computer , exter nal NMEA devices, a DGPS beacon receiver , etc.

56 GPSmap 76C GPS Navigation Time Setup The T ime Setup Page allows you to set the correct time for your geographic location. T o use the Time Setup feature: 1. Access the T ime Setup Page . 2. Highlight the T ime Format fi eld and press ENTER to choose from 12 or 24 (Military T ime) hour formats.
57 GPSmap 76C Heading Setup The Heading Setup Page allows you to specify the type of heading display and the type of North Reference used to calculate your heading. Unless you have a working knowledge of Headings and North Referenc- ing, it is recommended that you use the default values.
58 GPSmap 76C GPS Navigation Proximity W aypoints Pro ximity Waypoints The Proximity W aypoints Page allows you to establish waypoints that have alarm circles ar ound them at specified distances. The alarm helps you to avoid locations that are restricted or otherwise to be avoided.
59 GPSmap 76C GPS Featur es Calendar The Calendar allows you to view for any given day and location; Sunrise/Sunset times, moon phase, Hunt and Fish probabilities, ar chived waypoints for activities you want to navigate to and a day , week or month format display .
60 GPSmap 76C GPS Featur es Calculator Alarm Clock Alarm Clock The Alarm Clock Feature allows you to use your GPSmap 76C as an alarm clock. Y ou can choose from dif ferent alarm tones, and use the “Snooze” feature to delay the alarm for an additional seven minutes.
61 GPSmap 76C GPS Featur es Stopwatch Stopwatch This feature allows you to use the GPSmap 76C as a stopwatch, which includes a lap timer . Y ou may also have the unit record the lap time based on distance. T o start the stopwatch: Use the ROCKER k ey to highlight the ‘Start’ fi eld and then press ENTER .
62 GPSmap 76C GPS Featur es Sun and Moon T ables Location Options Menu Sun and Moon The Sun and Moon T ables provide you with a graphic depiction of the sun and moon relative to the Earth. Sun and moon positions can be displayed for any time, date and location on Earth.

65 GPSmap 76C GPS Featur es Virtua Maze This GPS game creates a virtual maze on the screen. Y ou are placed at a central position in the maze and must explore the maze collecting flags. The lower right corner of the screen tells you how many flags remain.
66 GPSmap 76C GPS Featur es GPS Enhanced Games Nibbons In this GPS game, you must walk around the boar d collecting the flags as they appear . As you walk, your “tail” will grow . Y ou may travel anywhere on the screen but you cannot walk on your tail, or you will lose a life.
67 GPSmap 76C GPS Featur es Beast Hunt Although not a true GPS game, Beast Hunt requires some navigation skills, in which you must find and defeat the dragon with an arrow befor e it breathes fire at you or you fall into one of the pits while navigating a maze of platforms.

A datum is a mathematical model of the Earth which approximates the shape of the Earth, and enables calculations to be carried out in a consistent and accurate manner .
