Y ou can incorporate accessible drives (for example a DVD drive) as well as oth er boards. This manual tells you how to start using you r device and how to operate it in daily use.

Getting started Connecting external devices Read the documentation on the extern al device before connecting it. With the exception of USB devices, always remove all power plugs before connecting external devices! Do not connect or disconnect cables during a thunderstorm.
Getting started Ports on the device Ports Externa ldevices Device The ports are located on the front and ba ck of the device. Not all ports are necessarily present on your device. The standard ports are marked with t h e symb ols shown below (or similar).
Getting started 1 2 1 = Mainboard monitor ports 2 = Graphics card external monitor ports ► Follow the instructions co ntained in the monitor manual to prepare the monitor for operation (e.g. c onne cting cables). ► Plug the data cable into the suitable m o nitor port for the device (VGA, DVI-I, D isplayPort).
Getting started When you connect the monitor to the monitor socket of the device, it automatically switches off as soon a s the device switches off. Connecting the mouse Depending on the equipment level selected, yo ur device will be supplied with a USB mouse or a PS/2 mouse.
Getting started ► Depending on the device, connect the data c able to the parallel port or the serial port. For an exact description of h ow to c onnect external devices to the corresponding port, please refer to the documentation of the external device.

T roubl esho oting and tips The device cannot be switched off with the ON/OFF switch. Cause Remedy The device has not bee n switched on with the ON/OFF switch. ► Press the ON/OFF sw itch again. System crash ► Keep the on/off switch pressed for at least 4 seconds until the machine switches off.

Unauthorised opening or incorrect repair m ay greatly endanger the user (electric shock, fi re risk) and will invalidate your warranty .
System expansions Information about boards T ake care w ith the locking mechanisms (catches a nd centring pins) when you are replacing boards or components o n boards. Note that some components on th e mainboard may be very hot if the device was in use shortly before the casing w as removed.

System expansions Installing the locking device with casing lock 2 2 3 1 ► Turn the removed side part over (so that the outside faces upwards). ► Guide the locking device with the casing lock in the direction of t he arrow (1) in to the side part.
System expansions Opening the drive cage ► Open the casing (s ee "O pening the casing ", Pa ge 37 ). 2 1 ► Unscrew the knurled s crew (1). ► Fold open the drive cage (2). Thanks to the integrated torque controller the drive cage will stop in any position.
System expansions Closing the drive cage 2 1 ► Fold down the drive cage (1). Be careful that no wires become trapped. ► Secure the drive cag e with the knurled screw (2).
System expansions Removing ventilation duct Ventilationduct When removing the ventilation duct, be careful not to damage the processor cooler(s) on the mainboard. 1 2 ► Open the casing (s ee "O pening the casing ", Pa ge 37 ). ► Fold up the drive cage (see " Openin g th e dri v e ca ge", Page 41 ).
System expansions Installing the ventilation duc t Ventilationduct When fi tting the ventilation duct, be careful not to damage the processor cooler(s) on the mainboard. 1 ► Insert the latches on t he underside of the ventilation duct into the correspon ding slots in the casing.
System expansions Installing and removing a board Y ou can install additional modules in order to increase the perfo rmance of your machine. The number , position and arrangement of the board slots on the mainboard c an be fou nd in the manual for the m ainboard.
System expansions Do not throw away the slot cover . For cooling, protection against fi re and in order to comply with EMC regulations, you must re fi t the slot cover if you remove the board. 2 1 ► Push the board into the slot (1). ► Press on the retaining clip until it you feel it engage (2).
System expansions 1 2 ► Press on the curved p art of the retaining clip (1). ► Pull the board out of the slot in the direction of the arrow (2). ► Place the board in suitable packaging. For cooling, protection against fi re, and in order to comply w ith EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) regulations, you must re fi t the slot cover .
System expansions ► Close the casing (see "Closi ng the casing" , Pag e 3 8 ). If you have installed o r removed a PCI board, please check the relevant PCI slot settings in the BIOS Setup . If necessary , change the settings. Further information is provided in the PCI board documentation.

System expansions Removing an access ible drive ► Open the casing (see " Opening the ca sing", Page 37 ). 2 1 ► Pull the data and the power supply connectors from the drive. ► Open the retaining c lip (1). ► Pull the drive out of the casing in the direction of the arrow (2).

System expansions ► If you no longer need the EasyChange rails, secure them again at their location in th e drive cage. It may be necessary t o modify the entry for the drive in the BIO S Setup . Installing a hard disk drive ► Open the casing (s ee "O pening the casing ", Pa ge 37 ).
System expansions ► Secure the EasyChange rails on the side of the hard disk by inserting the upper pins of the E asyCh ange rail in the corresponding ho les of the hard disk. 1 ► Slide the hard disk drive with the EasyChange rails in the direction of the arrow (1) into the drive cage.
System expansions Installing/removing a SmartCard reader and/o r WLAN module (optional) Y ou can also install a SmartCard reader and/or a WLAN module for wireless LAN (Local Area Network) in the installation bay for the 3½ inch hard disk drive. The SmartCard reader and WLAN module can be installed together in the carrier .
