1-1 Chapter 1 Getting Star ted The Point 510 TM pen tablet is an easy to use, high-performa nce personal com pu ter that you can run by touching the screen with a supplied “pen,” sometimes ca lled a “stylus.” The Point 510 pen tablet runs the popular W indows for Workgroups or Windows 95 software.

The main f eatures and controls tha t y ou use to operate the Point 510 pen t ablet are described briefly below.
System F eatures an d Controls 1-3 • PC Card Door Shuttered door that allows you to g ain access to the PC Card, if one is i nstalled in the PC Card slot. • Antenna (O ptional) If installed, an anten na tha t helps you send a nd receive data on a wireless local area networ k (LAN ) .

Power 2-1 Chapter 2 Using the P oint 510 P en T ablet This chapter covers the fundamental operations that you n eed to be familiar with to use the Point 51 0 pen tablet: • Starting the pen ta blet .
2-2 Using th e Point 510 Pen Tablet P ower Stat es 2 The Point 510 pen tablet behaves differen tly depending on its power state. The pen tablet can be Fully On, partially on (Idle, Standby, Suspended), or Fully Off. The pen tablet’s behavior for each powe r state is as follows: • Fully On The pen tablet is ru nning and the display screen is on.
Using the Pen 2-3 Using the P o wer Button a s an On/Off Button 2 If the Point 510 pen tablet has the Po wer butto n set up for power on/o ff operation, when you press the Power button the pen tablet switches between the Fully On and Fully Off pow er stat es.
2-4 Using th e Point 510 Pen Tablet • T o mo ve something on the screen , place the pen tip dir ectly over the object, then as you pre s s and hold the pen tip against the display screen, move the pen. The pen can be attached to the tablet with an op tional pen tether.
Using Hotpads 2-5 Using Hotpad s 2 The hotpads ar e controls along the edge of the Poi nt 510 screen that let you use functions an d make adjustm ents on the Point 510 pen ta blet. Y ou do this by tappi ng the hotpads with th e Point 510 pen. The table below shows each hotpad icon and how to use it.
2-6 Using th e Point 510 Pen Tablet Suspending and Resuming Oper ation 2 The Point 510 pen tablet allows you to suspend and resume system operation without exiting the programs you are using. Suspend mode conserves battery power while saving your recent work.

2-8 Using th e Point 510 Pen Tablet Other S uspend/Resume I ssues 2 Other issues you should consider when suspending or resuming pen tablet operation are as follows: • When the Point 5 10 pen tablet is in suspend mo de, data stops going to and fr om the pen tablet.
Charging th e Battery Pack 2-9 The following table sho ws h ow battery ligh ts sh ow battery sta tus: To charge the battery pack: 1. W ith the Point 51 0 pen tablet discon nected fro m external power sources, look at the amber Low Battery light to determine the battery char ge level.

2-1 4 Using th e Point 510 Pen Tablet The RF LAN transceiver allows you to transmit and receive data using your Point 510 pen tablet in your fa cility . Access points ca n be sta tioned through ou t your facilit y to carry the signals between your Point 510 pen tablet and the wired LAN an d help maintain a relia ble connection.
3-1 Chapter 3 Care and Maintenance This chapter gives you pointers on ho w to take care of and m aintain your Point 510 pen tablet. Prot ecting the Di spla y Screen 3 To protect the display screen, use the screen protector provided with the Point 510 pen tablet.
3-2 Care a nd Mai ntenance Protect i ng th e P oint 510 P en T ab let i n H a r s h E n v i r on me nt s 3 The Point 510 pen tablet is designed for use in protected environments where there is no direct exposure to rain, mists, or sprays. Avoid exposing the pen t ablet to these conditions.
Calibra ting the Po int 510 Display Screen 3-3 Calibrat ing the P oint 510 Displa y Screen 3 Each time you tap the Point 510 screen, the Point 510 pen tablet determine s where you tapped it in order to perform the function you requested. Calibration helps the Point 510 pen tablet a ccurately determine what you are tapping.
3-4 Care a nd Mai ntenance 3. Perform the calibration steps accor ding to the instructions on the scr een. The calibration utility displays cross-hairs in ea ch corner of the scree n, one at a time. T ap the center of each cross-hair as it appears, holding the pen the same way you would hold it while using the pen tablet.
