6 1. B ASIC PROCEDURE LO AD THE B A TTER Y • Use one 3V CR123A lithium batter y . • A new lithium batter y will provide po w er for taking about 300 pictures , including 150 with flash (as tested according to Fujifilm’ s batter y testing procedure).
7 3. Check the loaded battery Push the Lens Cov er Button do wnward. If the Lens Co ver opens and the lens barrel mov es out into shooting position (wideangle), the batter y is loaded correctly . • If the Flash Sign ( ) in the LCD blinks f or 12 seconds or more after taking a flash picture, the battery is spent.
8 A TT A CH THE STRAP Pass the looped end of the str ap through the camer a’ s Str ap Lug, then pass the other end of the strap through the loop and pull it fir mly .
9 LO AD THE FILM 1. Open the camera bac k T o open, hold the camer a bottom side up and push the Camera Back Loc k do wn- w ard. 2. Insert the film J ust push the film gently into the Film Chamber . • Do not open the Camer a Back all the w a y . It is normally set to open about 15 ° or just enough to drop the film in smoothly and surely .
10 3. Check the film tip position Mak e sure the film tip falls within the Film Tip Mar k (g reen lines in the f ar end of the film track). 4. Close the camera back As soon as y ou close the Camera Back, the Exposure Counter will r un though rapidly and the film will pre wind itself up to the v er y end.
11 T AKING PICTURES 1. T urn on the power T o turn it on, press the P ow er Switch do wnward. The Lens Co v er will automatically open and the Lens will mov e out into shooting position. If the Lens is in retr acted position, the shutter won’t tr ip .
12 P 3. P anorama mode T o set the camer a to the panorama mode, press in the Pinhead Button Loc k and, at the same time, push the Lens Cov er Button all the way do wn so that a red “P” appears in the left side of the Finder .
13 5. Switc hing back to 35 mm full size mode T o s witch back to the standard mode , tur n off the red “P” in the Finder b y pushing the Lens Cov er Button bac k to center position. Y ou can do it without pressing in the Pinhead Button Lock. 6. Zooming to telephoto T o z oom to telephoto , press in the upper Zoom Button.
14 7. Zooming to wideangle T o z oom to wideangle , press in the low er Zoom Button. 8. Hold the camera still When taking pictures, hold the camer a still with both hands (camera shake can result in fuzzy pictures). T o shoot with the camer a held v er tically , position the Flash side up .
15 9. Aim the autof ocus spot at y our subject A: Autof ocus Spot Aim the A utof ocus Spot at y our subject. Make sure y our subject fills the Finder’ s Autof ocus Spot completely .

17 END OF FILM • Y our camer a will expose the film frames in descending order , star ting from the highest num- bered fr ame, and rewind each fr ame into its cartr idge as soon as it is e xposed. • Y ou can unload the film as soon as the last frame (fr ame No .
18 ■ Unloading the film in mid-roll With the tip of a ball-point pen or something similar , press in the Mid-roll Rewind Button. W ait until the Exposure Counter sho ws the “E” sign and the camera motor comes to a halt, then tak e the film out. • Do not use anything with too sharp a point to press in the Mid-roll Rewind Button.
19 2. AD V ANCED TECHNIQUES USING THE A UT OFOCUS LOCK 1. This is the picture y ou want but.... the A utof ocus Spot is off y our subject. It means the Lens is not f ocused on your subject.

While pressing the shutter release about halfwa y do wn.... mov e the camer a back to its or iginal position, recompose your picture , then tak e it by pressing the Shutter Release all the wa y down. • The A utofocus Loc k can be used f or taking both 35 mm full size and panor ama for mat pictures .
21 SELECTING THE EXPOSURE MODE ■ A wor d on the camera’ s flash exposure modes Each time y ou press in the Exposure Mode Button, the exposure mode setting will s witch in the order shown below: Auto flash (No sign), Red-e ye Reducing ( ), Fill-in Flash ( ) and Flash off ( ) mode.
22 T aking ordinary pictures 1. Automatic-flash mode in lo w light If y ou don’t see any sign in area “A” of the LCD (see illustration) and the light is lo w , the Flash will automatically fire when y ou press down the Shutter Release.
23 ■ A wor d on red-ey e eff ect When y ou photog r aph a person’ s face in dim light with Flash, the e yes will some- times tur n out red in the picture. This is because the light from the Flash enters the person’ s eyes and is reflected bac k into the camer a lens .

25 USING THE SELF-TIMER 1. Set the self-timer T o set the Self-timer , press in the Self-timer/Remote Control Button ( ) to bring out the tr iangular mark ( d ) in the LCD in the spot where the Self-timer Sign ( ) is showing. 2. Start the Self-timer T o start it, press do wn the Shutter Release .

28 4. Effective s witch range The effectiv e range of the Remote Control Switch is about fiv e meters when held directly in front of the camera, and up to 3.5 meters when aimed at the camera at a 20 ° angle from all sides (left, right, abo v e, and below).
29 1 Change the battery with a new one. 2 Push down the Lens Co ver Button and make sure the Lens has mo v ed out into shooting po- sition. 3 Unload the film and insert a new roll. 4 Press in the Zoom Button. The Lens barrel will automatically collapse then reset itself to wideangle position.
