11 English GETTING THE MOST OUT OF Y OUR CAMERA Y our movie camera can not only record video clips , you can also take still photos and ma ke audio recordings. F or e xample, you can snap a still image while recording a vide o clip , or make just an audio recording.

17 English INST ALLING THE B A TTER Y P A CK AND CARD The card can be used after it has been f ormatted with the camera (page 123). Make sure that the ba ttery pa ck and the card orie ntation are corr ect. Install the ba ttery pac k 1 Open the battery cover on the side.
English 18 3 Cl ose the battery cover. h Match the [ I ] marks, and slide the cov er tow ards the front to close it. h At the time of purchase the bat tery pack is not ch arged. Be sure to install a f ully charged b attery pack in the camer a (page 20).

English 20 PO WER FOR THE CAMERA The supplied A C adaptor is used not only as the camer a’ s A C adaptor , but also to charge the battery installed in t he camera. Using the battery pac k At the time of purchase , the battery pack is not charged. The bat tery pack must be charged bef ore it can be used in the camera.
21 English PO WER FOR THE CAMERA 3 Disconnect the AC adaptor after charging is completed. Using a power outle t When the supplied A C adaptor is connected to the camer a, power can be supplied from a pow er outlet.

27 English BEFORE T AKING PICTURES Using the autof ocus The autofocus will w ork in almost all situat ions; however , there are certain conditions that may cause the autof ocus function to not work properl y . If the autofocus function is not working properly , set the focus range to capture images (page 62).
English 28 The fo llowing e xamples are some of the situations where the aut ofocus function ma y work, b ut not as desired. i When both near and far objects are present Use the focus-loc k function to lock the focus on an object at the sa me distance as the desired subject, then reposition the camera to compose the picture.

31 English CAPTURING I MA GES HINT Adjusting the LCD monitor brightness i While the Shooting Scr een is activ e, Y ou can quic kly access the screen f or adjusting the brightness of the LCD monitor by pressing the MENU button for at least 1 se cond.

35 English B ASIC SHOO TING FUNCTIONS Using the zoom Y our camera has two zoom functions: optical zoom and digital zoom. Y ou can specify whether or not the digital zoom is enabled (pa ge 114). 1 Point the camera lens at th e subject. 2 Press the zoom switch to compose the desired image.
English 36 Exposure correc tion When capturing images, y ou can make the image lighter or darker . 1 Se t the main swit ch to REC. h T o exit the Shoo ting Setting Screen, press the MENU but ton . 2 While the Shooting Screen is displayed, toggle the SET button to the right.
37 English MAKE AN A UDIO RECORDING Y our camera can mak e audio recordings. 1 Turn on the camera (page 22), and set the main switch to REC. 2 Press the MENU button. h The menu displa y appears . 3 From the video clip mode menu, select the audio memo icon < , and press the SET button.

51 English IMA GE QU ALITY Video clip image quality setting When it comes to video clips, a lar ger number of pixels and a higher frame rate means bett er image quality a nd smoother pla yback. On the other hand, the file size becomes lar ge and uses more memory .
English 52 Still image resolution setting By setting the still image resoluti on (pixels) to a higher setting, image detail is enhanced for a smoother , finer picture. However , the file size also becomes large and uses more me mory . Select the resolution setting that suits your purpose.

67 English WHITE B ALANCE This camera automaticall y adjusts the white balance und er most lighting conditions. Ho we v er , if y ou want to specify the lighting conditions or ch ange the ov erall tone of the image, the white balan ce can be manually set.

77 English ERASING D A T A Y ou can erase data that is stored on the card if you no longer ne ed it. Y ou can erase the data one at a ti me, or all at once . 1 Display the PAG E 1 Playback Setting Screen (page 69). 2 Select the erase icon c , and press the SET button.

79 English PRINT SETTINGS In addition to using y our printer to print out still images captured with you r camera, as with con v entional fi lm, you can ha v e prints made at shops off ering digital print services.
English 80 HINT Printing a single frame fr om a video clip i T o pr int with a printer or ha ve the digital print ser vice shop print out a still image from a video clip , you m ust first sav e it (save frame) as a still image . About the DPOF format i DPOF (Digital Print Order F or mat) is a print ord er f ormat.
81 English PRINT SETTINGS Specifying date imprinting and pr int quantitie s Y ou can specify print settings for each individual image (EACH IMA GE), or apply the print settings to all the ima ges on the card (ALL IMA GES). 1 Display the Print Setti ng Screen (page 7 9).
English 82 4 Spec ify whether t he date is displayed on the print, and the number of prints. <Specifying dated prints> 1 T oggle the SET button up or down to select “DA TE”. 2 Press the SET bu tton. h The Print Date Screen appears . 3 T oggle the SET button up or down to select the desired opti on.

87 English CHANGING IMA GE SIZE (RESIZE) The size of a still image that has already been capt ured at a resolution of t or more can be cha nged to 1,6 00 × 1,200 pix els or 640 × 48 0 pix els.
English 88 RED-EYE CORRECTION If you photogr aph y our subjects at ni ght using the flash, the y ma y appear i n the image with glo wing red ey es (red-ey e phenomenon). Now you can amend the image so that the subjects’ e yes app ear more natural (red-ey e correction).
89 English RED-EYE CORRECTION 4 Press the still image shooting button. h A screen appears f or you t o specify whether or not to sa v e the original image. 5 Select the desired method to save the corrected image, and press the SET button. h The corrected image is sa ved , and you are returned to the Red-Ey e Correction Screen.
English 90 EXTRA CTING A STILL IMA GE FROM A VIDEO CLIP Y ou can select one image (scene) from a video clip , cop y it, and sav e it as a still image (the original data remains unchanged). 1 Play back a video clip, and pause at the point you wish to copy and save.
91 English EDITING VIDEO CLIPS Y ou can delete (“cut”) the first part or the last part of a video clip. Y ou can choose anywher e in the vide o clip as the cutting po int. Y ou can also join two video cl ips together and sa ve the m as one separate clip (“joining”).
English 92 Proce dure to jo in tw o video c lips CA UTION Caution when editing video clips i When editing video clips , do not mov e the main s witch. If y ou mov e the main switch while editing video c lips, not only will the editing not be properly completed, but the original video clip may also be erased.
