2 1. Product Overview The F A NTEC MWiD25 mobile wireless disk enables wireless acc ess to your videos, music, photos and data and allows you to stream everything to your iPad®, iP hone® , tablet, Smartphone or notebook. Cords and cables are not needed anymore.
3 W ireless mode: W irelessly connect the Wi Fi HD D to your existing wireless router to have internet access as illustrated below . W ired mod e: Connect the RJ45 ca ble to an available RJ45 port of your router , then enable the DHCP feature of the W iFi HDD to automatically assign an IP address.

5 2. Product Parameters 2.1 Product Dimensi ons Dim ension: 80mm ( W ) X 128mm (D) X 25mm (H) Operating T emperature: The normal operating temperature is between 5-35° C.
6 3. Interface 3.1. RJ45 W A N Port A. Router Mode : The W iFi HDD w il l serve as host. W ith the built-in DHCP function, it can assign IP a ddress to connect two or more devices through W iFi. B. Bridge Mode: Al lows two or more wireless devi ces to communicate with each other .

8 4. Hardw are Installati on As far as you bought the W iFi enclosure with out the internal hard drive, you have to install the ha rd d rive yourself. Import ant Note: Once you have closed the enclosure, it’s not possible to open it again without damaging the cover .
9 3. Aft er in stalling the screws together with the rubber shock m ount s, carefull y pu sh the hard drive into the SA T A conne ctor as sho wn on the image below . 4. Once the internal hard drive is adjusted and secured correctly , put t he top cove r into the grooves of the bottom enclosure and then snap it in to close it.
10 5. HDD For mat This section explains how to format the HDD befor e usage. Refer to the operating system's documentation f or further guidance. Note: Following fil e formats are support ed: FAT, FAT32, NTFS, exFAT 5.1. MS Windo ws Important: Before reconfi guring a volume, back up your data and delete previously defined partitions.
1 1 Every di sk should appear wi th th e word “ Basic ”, a si ze v alue that sho ws the available storage capacity, and a status of “ Online ”. Instead of Basic, a dis k could ap pear Unknown , Dynamic , or Not Initialized . A window opens with the selected disk (all Unknown disks may appear in this window).
12 5. Select the Primary or Extended option and click Next . 6. Specify the partition size. By default, the partition occupies the entire volume. Click Next . 7. Assign a drive letter or mount path and cli ck Next . 8. Name and format the partition and clic k .
13 5.2. M A C OS X Important: Before reconfi guring a volume, back up your data and drag the old drive to the trash to un-mount previousl y defined parti tion. If no hard drives are connected to the Storage Appliance, the Processor disk (8.0 GB Conf ig Disk Media) will appear.
14 5. Select exFAT from the Format drop-down list. 6. Specify the size of the partition in the Size field. 7. Click the Partition button. 8. Click Partition to acknowledge the warning. Disk Utility mounts the created partiti on and represents it with an icon on the desktop.
15 6. Using Pe rsonal Co mputer 6.1. Wireless connection to PC Switch-on the W iFi HDD by pr essing the power button at the front panel. Wait for a few moments until the W ireless LED remains on. Enable the W iFi featu re on your PC and open the W ireless Network Connection.
16 T ype the default User Name “admin” and leave the User Password blank. Cl ick on the “Log In” button to access the Web Management Interface. If you choose to click on the “M y S tor age” button, enter the admin login name and pa ss word to gain access to the W iFi HDD.
17 2. Click on the “Next” button. By default, the A ccess Point (AP)+Client is s elected. There are two available Internet Access options – A. Access Point (AP) + Client. Connect the W iFi HDD to another wire les s device to have the internet access.
18 3. Click on the “Next” button. The next step is to configure the W iFi Disk. • SSID: T ype-in the combination of letters and numbers only . 32 characters is the maximum supported SSID length. • Channel: The de f ault setting is set to Auto.
19 5. Click on the “Finish” button to complete and save the changes made. The system will start rebooting. T his process will tak e approximatel y 5 minutes as seen on the image below . The step-by-step wizard can be canceled at anytime. Cli ck on the “X” located at the top right of the window as seen on the image below .
20 7. Using Mobile De vices 7.1. iOS Client A p p Insta llation 1. Click on the “App S tore” icon on the desktop as seen on the i mage below . Search and locate the free “F A NTEC M W iD25” app and follow the on-screen installation instructions.
21 2. Click on the “Settings” icon on the desktop as seen on the screenshot below . 3. Click on the “ W iFi ” op tion. Inside of the W iFi Network, the SSID “W ifiDisk-XX XX” should appear on the list. Click on the “W ifiDisk- XXXX ” as seen on the image below .
22 7.3. iOS User Login 1. Click on the “F ANTEC MWiD” icon to launch the app as seen on t he image below . 2. Enter the Adm in passw ord that you assigned during the configuration process. The pa ssword i s only required during the first login. The device reme mbers the p assword and there is no need to enter it again.
23 7.4. A ndroi d Client A pp Inst allation 1. Download the Client App c alled “F ANTE C MWi D25” from the of f icial website as seen on the screenshot below .
24 7.5. Wireless connect your A nd roid devices 1. T u rn-on the W iFi HDD. W ait for few minutes to complete the initialization process. The blue W iFi LED on the device should remain solid i ndicating that the initialization process has been completed.
25 Android Device is connected to the Wi Fi HDD. 7.6. A ndroi d User Logi n 1. Click on the “F ANTEC MWiD” icon to launch the app as seen on t he image below . 2. Enter the Adm in passw ord that you assigned during the configuration process. The pa ssword i s only required during the first login.
26 8. Basic Functi onalit y 8.1. iOS Device Cli ent Once y ou have successfull y connected to the W iFi HDD, by default, you w ill b e inside the “My W i Disk”. The “M y W iDisk” i s the W iFi HDD and the “My Device” is the device that you are using to access the W iFi HDD.
27 Home Button – back to the main screen. View Button - change t o List or Thumbnail view . Setting Button – change the W iFi HDD configuration . Back Button – back to previous screen Share Button – to share, copy , delete, and upload fil es Search Box – to search f or spe cifi c file name and/or extension.
28 8.2. A ndroi d Device Client Once y ou have successfull y connected to the W iFi HDD, by default, you w ill b e inside the “My W iFi Disk”. The “My W iFi Disk” i s the W iFi HDD and the “My Device” is the device that you are using to access the W iFi HDD.
29 Setting Button – change the W iFi HDD configuration . This feature onl y appears when switched to the “M y W iFi Device”. Back Button – back to previous screen Share Button – to share, copy , delete, and upload fil es Search Box – to search for specifi c file na me and/or extension.
30 8.3. Playing Music / A ud io (iOS and A ndroid) T ip: It is highly recommended to create separa te folders f or all your music files stored on the W i Fi HDD for easy us e and file organization. The Music or A udio files can be played regardl ess if you are inside the “My W i Disk” (o r “My W ifi Disk for Androi d) or “ My Devi ce.
31 b. - Repeat current song: the player will always pla y the current song, and it will only stop playing when the button is c licked. c. - Shu ffle all s ongs: the music or the a udio files will be played randomly . d. - Play current li st: the music or the au dio fi les will be played sequentially .
32 By default, the video playback is i n the landscape mode. See the button functionality below . 1. - W hen clicked, the m ovie that is currently played will stop and you exit the Movie Player Interface. 2. - W hen clicked, this w ill scale your movie according to the screen size.
33 8.5 Playing movie/v ideo ( A n droid only ) T ip: It is highly recommended to create a folder or folders where to cop y all your movie files into the W iFi HDD for ease of use and file organization. The movie or video files can be played regardl ess if you are inside the “My W iDisk” (or “My W ifi Disk for Androi d) or “ My Devi ce.
34 Click on pictures or images an d it will automatically play as a slide show as seen on the screen shot below . There are a few functions are available to cont rol the slideshow . Y ou can swipe your finger across the screen to manuall y view the pictures or images or click the button, to automatically play the slideshow .
35 • S top/Continue button - to stop or continue playback of the background music. • Select button - search and locate the fil e or files that you would like to play as the background music. Click on the to return to the slideshow as seen on the screenshot below .
36 8.7. V iewing/playing photos (A n droid only) T ip: It is highly recommended to create a folder or folders where to cop y all your pictures into the WiFi HDD for ease of use and f ile organization. Note: The W iFi HDD currently supports .jpg, .png, .
37 • Click the button to play the slideshow once and it will stop at the last image or photo. • Click the button to return from the previous screen. 8.8. Sharing photos /images (iOS only ) There are a few options to share photos/im age to your friends and family.
38 2. Add to photo – when clicked, the selected photo/im age will be saved into the Photo Album of t he device. 3. Upload to Facebook – when clicked, you wil l be directed to the Facebook login screen. The Facebook app must b e insta lled on your device.
39 2) Save Photo button - when cli cked, the se lected photo/im age will be saved into the device’ s Photo Gall ery . 8.10. Opening/v iewing document s (iOS only ) The device client app supports keynote, numbers, page, Excel, W ord, .p df, .txt and .
40 Click the “E-Mail” button, the default email app will laun ch automati cally and the selected document will be sent as an attach me nt. Once the email i s sent, the re will be a message “Mail Sent” located at the lower-left corner of the screen.
41 8.1 1. Opening/vie wing document s (A n droi d only ) T o open/view a document u sing your A ndroid d evice, simply cli ck o n the f ile that you wish to open/view . This will automatically open the file using the default viewer or the installed app on your A ndroid device as seen o n the screenshot below .
42 8.12. Copy , Delete, Downloa d, Upload functions ( iOS and A nd roid) Y ou may click on the i con at anyt ime to s hare, copy , delete, download, and upload files. As seen on the scre ensho ts below , the will appear at the top as part of the menu once the is clicked.
43 - From the My W iDisk (or My W iFi D i sk), the file or files may be downloaded to the local drive or to My Devi ce. The down arrow indicates that you are currentl y in th e My W iDisk (My W iFi Disk). - From the My Device, when clicked, the file or files may be uploaded to the remo te storage or to My W iDisk (or My W iFi Disk).
44 8.13. Copying/tra nsferring file to My Device (iOS and Andr oid) Once you get connected to the W iFi HDD, you can only copy/transfer a single file or multiple files to the local storage (My Device).
45 • A new folder may be created to copy/transf er the selected file or files. T o create a new folder , simply click on the “New Folder” button. Enter the ne w folder name inside the box and click the “Create” button as seen on the screenshot below .
46 8.14. Copying/tra nsferring file to My WiDisk (iOS and A n droid) Make sure you are in the “My Device”. 1. Click on the . 2. Use your index finger to select a single file or multiple f iles or use the i con to select all files that should be copied/transferred.
47 • A new folder may be created to copy/transf er the selected file or files. T o create a new folder , simply click on the “New Folder” button. Enter the ne w folder name inside the box and click the “Create” button as seen on the screenshot below .
48 8.15. Deleting/erasing a single file or multip le files (iOS and A n droid) A single file or multi ple files can easily be deleted/erased whether you are in “My Device” or in “My W iDisk” 1.
49 9. WEB Mana gemen t Functions The built-in W eb Management interface is a unique web-based configuration uti lity . No software is needed to be inst all ed on the Personal Computer to use this utility .
50 Copy button - to copy fi le or files and pa ste them i nto another folder . Move button - to move a fil e or files from one location to another . Download button - to download a file or files to a specific location. If the software installed on your computer support s a specifi c file type , this file will automaticall y be openned.
51 2. On the folder level, you can right-click using your mouse and a pop-up menu will appear . Y ou can Open, Copy , Cut, Delete or Rename the folder as seen on the screenshot below . 3. Select multiple files and right-click on the mouse wil l allow to either Copy , Cut or Delete the files as seen on the screenshot below .
52 • Open Command -Select a folder and right-click. Insi de the pop-up m enu, select “Open” to view the contents or open the folder . • Copy Command - Select a f older or a fil e and then right-click. Inside the pop-up menu, select “Copy” to make a copy of the entire f older or a file and p aste into another location or f older .
53 9.1.3. Keyboard Shortcuts The built-in W eb Management Interface supports keyboar d comm ands and shortcuts such as the following: T ab Key , Enter Key , Hom e Ke y , Page U P , Page DO W N, End Key , Up Arrow , Down Arrow , Left, Arrow Right Arrow , and Delete Key W indow s: Ctrl+ C = Copy ; Ct rl+V = Paste Mac: CMD+C = Copy; CMD+V = Past 9.
54 9.2.2. Storage Information Provides information about the internal storage l ike the total cap acity , hard drive manufacturer and available storage as seen on the screensh ot below .
55 9.3.1. User Click on the “User” thum bna il . This window will allow y ou to modi fy the admin p assword as seen on the screenshot below . Th e p asswor d should have minimum 5 characters and maximum 32 characters. Click on the “Save” button th e p assword has b een changed.
56 9.3.3. Network Settings 9.3.3.1. Hostname The Hostname is a name that is assigned to a device connected to a computer network. The Hostname can be mod ifi ed. It must begin with a letter and followed by a combin ation of letters and numbers. Required are mi nimum 2 characters to maximum 8 characters.
57 9.3.3.3. DHCP Ser ver The DHCP or Dynami c Host Configuration Protocol i s a ne twork prot ocol that enables a server to automatically assign an IP address to a computer connected to a network. By default, the DHCP Server option is enabled. This option can be disabled if needed and the IP address can be assigned manually .
58 Wireless Access (AP+Client) Option • SSID: T ype-in the SSID name or click on the “Rescan” button for automatic search for available wireless networks.
59 9.3.5. Power Setting This is another way to reboot/restart the W iFi HDD device. Simply click on the radi o button and click on the “Save” butt on to proceed. Click on the “OK” button to continu e on rebooting the device. 9.3.6. System Settings 9.
60 The automatic time s ync hronization can be s witched-of f and appl y t he PC time instead. Applying the PC time wil l automatically adjust the time and date based on the PC time. See the image below . Click on the “X” button to exit and cancel the T im e Settings.
61 T o restore the backup, cli ck the folder icon. Locate and select the .bin or .bin.gz file. The backup file will appear below the folder as seen on the screenshot below . Cl ick on the “Save” button to restore the settings. A warning message will app ear as seen on th e screenshot below .
62 3. The latest fi rmware upda te f ile will appear at the bottom of the folder . Click on the “Save” button to continue updating the firm ware. 4. During the firmware updating process a warning message as seen on the screenshot below appears and the device wil l reboot and go back to the lo gin screen automatically .
63 Note: This process will reset the W iFi SSID back to W iFiDisk-XXX, and all passwords including the admin password. 9.3.6.5. A bout S ettings The Ab out screen provides informati on o n the HostName, Device Serial Number and Model Number , MAC address, CPU and Memor y utilization like on the screenshot below .
