Menu Settings and Explanations Common Settings Sleep T imer Select the time period before the printer enters sleep mode (energy saving mode) when no operations are performed. Menu Settings and Explanations Universal Print Settings These print settings are applied when printing fr om an external devi ce without usin g the printer driver , or when printing from a PostScript printer dr iver or PCL printer driver . T op Oset Adjust the top or left margin of the paper.

1. Prepare Sh e et 1 and Sheet 2. Cut o the margins of Sheet 1 alon g t he vertical blue line through the center o f the top and botto m cross marks. 2. Place the edg e of Sheet 1 o n top o f Sheet 2 and align the cross mar ks, then tempo rarily tape the two sheets tog ether fro m the back.
3. Cu t the taped sheets in two alo ng the vertical r e d line thr ough the alignmen t markers (this time , the line to the le of the cr oss marks). 4. T ape the sheet s tog ether fr om the back. 5. Repeat steps 1 to 4 to tape Sheet 3 and Sheet 4 to gether .
6. Cu t o the margins of Sh eet 1 and Sheet 2 al ong the ho rizontal bl ue line thro ugh the cen ter o f the le and righ t side cross m arks. 7. Place the edge of Sheet 1 and Sheet 2 on top o f Sh eet 3 and Sheet 4 and align the cross marks, and then tem porarily tape them tog ether fro m the bac k.
8. Cu t the taped sheets in two alo ng the ho rizontal r ed line thro ugh the alignm ent marke rs (this time , the line above the cross marks). 9. T ape the sheet s tog ether fr om the back.

Wi nd o ws T o add your o wn preset, set items such as the Docu ment Size and P aper T ype on t he Mai n or Mo re O pt i on s tab , and then click A dd/Remove Pr esets in Printin g Presets .
Print ing a Header and F ooter (f or Wi ndows Only) Y ou can print inf ormation such as a user name and printing date as headers o r footer s. Click W atermark F eatures in the More O pt i on s tab , and then select Head e r/ Fo ote r . Click Set ti ngs and s elect necessary item s from th e drop-do wn list.
5. Mak e the following settings on the Pap er / Q u a l it y tab . ❏ P aper Sour ce: Select the paper so urce i n which yo u loaded the paper . ❏ M edia: Select the type of pape r yo u loaded. 6. Click Adv a n c e d , se lect the pa per size you lo aded in the p rint er as the Pap er S iz e setting, and then click OK .
Printing U sing a PostScript Print er Driver - Mac OS X 1. Load pape r in the prin ter . 2. Open the le you want to p r int. 3. Ac c e s s t h e p r i n t d i a l og . 4. Mak e the following set tings. ❏ Prin ter: S elect yo ur printer . ❏ P aper Size: Select the paper size you load ed in the p rinte r .
6. Select Pri nter Fe a ture s fro m the pop- up me nu , select Quali ty as the Fe atu re S e t s s etting, and then select the type o f paper y ou loaded a s the Med i a T y p e setting. 7. Replacing Ink Ca r tridges and O ther C onsumables Checking the Status of the Remaining Ink and the Maint e nanc e B o x Y ou can check the appr oximate ink levels and the appro xima te ser vice life of the main tenance box fro m the contro l pane l or the com put er .
Ink Cart ridge C odes Epson r ec ommends the use of genuine E ps on ink cartr idges . E pson cannot guaran tee the quality or r eliability of non-gen uine in k. e use of non-genuine ink may cause damage that is not covered by E ps on ’ s warranties, and under certain circumstances, may cause erratic printer behavior .
❏ Removed ink cartr idges may have ink around the ink sup ply port, so be careful not to get any ink o n the surr oundin g area when r emo ving the cartridge s . ❏ is prin ter uses ink cartridges equip ped with a green c hip that monito rs informatio n such as the amount of remainin g ink for each cartridge.
2. Push the ink cartridge that yo u want t o replace. e ink ca rt rid ge will p op out slightly . 3. Remove the ink car tridge from the printer . 4. Remove the new ink cart ridge from its package . c Impor t ant: Do no t tou ch th e sectio ns sho w n in th e illustr atio n.
5. Shake the ink cart ridge horizo ntally for 5 seconds, moving it back and fo rt h about 10 cm 15 times. 6. In sert t he cartr idge int o t he print er until it clicks. Not e: If Car tridge Ch eck is displa yed on the con trol pane l, press the OK butto n to check if th e cartr idges are inst alled correctly .
Replacing a Maint e nanc e Bo x In so me print cycles a very small amoun t of surplus i nk may be collected in the main tenance box. T o preven t ink leakage from the maintenance box, the printer is designed to stop prin ting when the absorb ing capacity of t he maintenance box has r e ached its limit.
4. Put the used maintenance box in the transparen t bag th at came with the new maint enance box and seal the bag s h ut. c Impor t ant: Do not tilt the used main tenance bo x until aer it is sealed in the plastic bag; otherw ise ink may leak. 5. In sert the ne w maint enance b ox all the way in to the printer .
Impro ving P rint Quality Checking and Cleaning the Print Head If the nozzles are clogged, the p rintou ts become faint, or banding may appe ar . When p r int quali ty has declined, use the nozzle check featur e and check if the nozzles are clogged. I f the nozzles are clogged, clean the print head.
❏ ere are br oken lines or missing segmen ts: e print head nozzles may be clogged. Go to the next step . 6. Foll ow t he on -s c ree n in str u ct ion s to cle an t he pr int hea d. 7. When c le aning is nished, p r int the nozzle check pat tern again.

Starting the ut ility Se le ct System Preferen ce s fro m the menu > P rinters & Scanners (or Pri nt & S c a n , Pr int & Fax ), and then sele ct the prin ter .

Solving Problems Checking the Printer Status Y ou can check error messages and the app roximate ink levels on the LCD screen or the co mputer . Checking Messages on the L CD Screen If an error message is displayed on the LCD screen, follow the on-screen instr uct ions or the solutio ns below to solve the problem.

❏ Place the printer o n a at sur face and operate in the recommended en v ironmen t al conditions. ❏ U se pa pe r supp orte d by this pri nter . ❏ Fo llow the paper handling pr ecautio ns. ❏ Load pa per in the correct direct ion, and slide the edge guides against the edges of the p aper .
❏ Connect the USB cord securely to the print er and the comp uter . ❏ If y ou are using a US B hub , tr y to connect the printer dir ectly to the compu ter . ❏ If y ou are usin g the printer over a netw ork, m ake sure the p rinter is co nnected to the netw ork.
❏ Disable the bidirectional (or high speed) s etting. When this setting is enabled, the print h ead prints while moving in bot h direct ions, and ver tica l lines may b e misa ligne d. If you disable th is feature, printing ma y slow down. ❏ Wi n d o w s Clear H igh S peed on the prin ter driver's More O pt io n s tab.
❏ Clean the paper pat h. ❏ Load pa per in the c orr ect dire ctio n. ❏ When performing man ual 2-sided printing, make sur e t hat the ink is com pletely dr y before r eloading the paper . ❏ Enable the r educe smear setting fo r thick paper . If y ou enable this f eature, prin t quality may decline or the printing may slow down.
