4 PictureMate Show TM is your easy-to -use, personal photo lab that’s also a digi ta l photo frame. Just insert a digital camera memory card and you’re re ady to vi ew your pictures in a variety of entertai ning slideshows or print brilliant, long-lastin g photos.
5 Special F eatures Printing with your PictureMate beco mes even easier with these spec ial features: From PictureMate’s screen, you can view your photos and press the Print button on the remote control to print the one s you want. Or you can select to print all photos.
6 Supported Photo Formats Make sure your photos meet these requireme nts for viewing and printing with your PictureMate (without a computer): ● JP EG files only ● Resolutions rang ing from 80 × 80 to 92 00 × 92 00 pixels PictureMate recognizes and prints up to 9,999 photos on your memory card.
7 PictureMate Remote Control Buttons Start printing Change the number of photos displayed Set/increase number of cop ies Set PictureMate to standby mode or turn it on from standby mode View print sett.
8 Before you view and print with Pictu reMate, you need to: ● Insert your memory card (below) ● Load paper (see page 10) When you’re finished, you can rem ove your memory card (see page 1 0 ). Inserting Your Memory Card 1 Press the top of the screen to slide it up.
9 Note: PictureMate can’t read mu ltiple cards at once. 4 Push the card in carefully unti l it stops (it won ’t go in all the way). When the card is in, the memory card light comes on and begi ns to flash. Caution: Do not remove a card while the memory card light is flashing; you may lose photos o n your card.
10 Removing Y our Memory Card When you are ready to remo ve a memory card, first make sure the memory card light is not flashing. Caution: Do not rem ove a card while the memory card light is flashing; you may lose photos on y our card. Pull the card out of the slot.
11 Note: Load a maximum of 20 sheets at a time. Load your paper glossy or whiter side up to p revent smearing. 5 Store any unused paper in the orig inal package and keep it flat in a dr y area to prevent curling. Note: When you need more paper, order a PictureMate Print Pack.
12 After you inser t your camera’s memory card, you can print your photos or view them in a variety of entert aining slide shows. Make sure you adjust the angle of the screen for comfortable viewing.
13 2 Select View and Print Photos and press OK . Y ou r photos are displayed by date: Note: If your memory card has more than 1000 photos, PictureMate divides them in to groups of 999. You can select the group you want to view and print. 3 Press u or d to select different dates.
14 8 Press l or r to review your selected photos. 9 If you want to print with a white border or include the date, select Borderless/Date Stamp: Off and press OK . Then select the option you want and press OK again. Note: The date com es from your camera, not from t he printer.
15 4 Select 1 Pe r Pa g e or Proof Sheet (2 0 per page) and press OK . If you selected 1 Per Page, you can press l or r to review your photos. 5 If you selected 1 Per P age and you want to print with a white bord er or include the date, select Borderless/Date Stamp: Off and press OK .
16 3 Press OK to select the photo (s) you want to print. Those you select are “reserved” for printing. When the slideshow is finished, you se e the print confirmation screen. 4 Press l or r to review your reserved photos. 5 If you want to print with a white border or include the date, select Borderless/Date Stamp: Off and press OK .
17 Storing and Displaying Your PictureMate Photos Photos printed on Pictur eMate photo paper are beautiful and long-lasting . Follow these guidelines to make sure they will l ook great for generations. Caring for Y o ur Photos ● T o avoid scratches or smudg ing, do not rub the printed side of the photo.
18 Y ou can select a variety of layouts and crop your photos for p rinting individual ly or in multi-ph oto formats. Y ou can also do the followi ng: ● Remove red eyes from your pho tos (see page 21.
19 2 Select Crop and press OK . ● Press press to zoom in or to zoom out. Y ou can zoom up to 5 00%. ● Press l , r , u , or d to move the view to a dif ferent part of yo ur photo. ● Press Display to rotate your photo. 3 Press OK when you’re finished cropping.
20 7 Press OK to preview your layout. No te the large number , which tells you how many sheets of paper are required. 8 If you want to adjust any settings, pres s Menu . See page 22 for more information. 9 Press OK or Print to star t printing. Custom Sizing and Cropping Y ou can set custom size s and crop your photos.
21 After you finish cropping an d press OK , you see a screen like the following, showing your croppe d photo and the layout: 6 Adjust the num ber of copies if neces sary , then press OK . 7 Select any of the enhancement setti ngs shown on the screen, or press Menu for additional se ttings.
22 Adjusting Photo Settings PictureMate l ets you adj ust the col or and impr ove the quality of your photos witho ut using a computer. Y ou can do the follo wing: ● Enhance your photos based on the.
23 ● None: Prints photos as is or bypasses P .I.M. or Exif Print data. Select this setting for the fastest printing. Scene Detection —If Fix Photo is selected as th e Enhance setting, you can choose from the following: Standard , Pe op le , Landscape , Night Scene .
24 Selecting the So urce for Photos When you have photos saved in print history, you can choose between those and the p hotos on your memory card. If you in sert a thumb drive or othe r device, you can also select it as a sourc e, and select from multiple folders.
25 Rotating Y ou can rotate a photo on PictureMate’s screen. This does not affect how the photo prin ts, only how it displays . 1 Select the photo you want to rotate and press OK . 2 Select Rotate and press OK . 3 Select 90 degrees , 1 80 degrees , or 2 70 degrees (or select Do Not Rotate ).
26 PictureMate can pri nt photos stored on a: ● PictBridge-enabled dig ital camera (this page) ● USB-connected external drive, such as a thumb drive (see page 28) ● Bluetooth-enabled device (req.
27 4 Connect your camera’s U SB cable to your camera and the por t on the side of PictureMate. 5 Use your camera’s controls to select and print photos on PictureMate.
28 Printing From an External Drive If you have saved pho tos on a thumb drive, you can connect the drive to the si de of PictureMate and print just like y ou do when you insert a memory c ard. Y ou can also connect and prin t from an external CD drive or hard dri ve.
29 1 Make sure PictureMate is on but not printi ng. Caution: Do not connect or rem ove the Bluetooth Ph oto Print Adapter while it is comm unicating with a device or while PictureMate is printin g ; this may cause PictureMate to malfunctio n. 2 Plug the adapter into the port on th e side of PictureMate.

Choosing Bluetoot h Settings If necessary , use the Pict ureMate remote control to choose settings for Bluetoot h wir eless communication.
31 Y ou see a screen like the following: The passkey is required if your Blueto oth Communicati on Mode is s e t to P airing, or if Encryption is en abled. 6 Press u or d to change the firs t digit, then press r to move to the second digit. 7 Repeat step 7 until you have entered a 4-digit number to use as your Bluetoo th Passkey .
32 After you print, PictureMate asks if you want to save the photos on your camera’s memory card to the print history . If you sel ect Ye s , the ph otos are saved on PictureMate’ s inte rnal hard drive. If you want to ch ange the way photos are saved, see page 6 1.
33 4 Press OK . 5 Select Save All Photos . 6 Press OK , then read the message and press OK again. 7 Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the backup. If you nee d to canc el the back up, press Stop/ Clear . Caution: Avoid hand ling the printer during back up.
34 3 Press u or d to s e l e ct d i f f e r ent dates. Press l or r to move through your photos. Note: If you want to see your photos one at a time press the Display button. Continue press ing the button to switch between 20 ph otos, one photo, and display by month.
35 T o use PictureMate wi th your computer, you must first: ● Install the PictureMate software on your computer from the PictureMate CD as descri bed here. ● Connect PictureMate to your computer with a U SB cable. If you don ’t have a USB cable, you can buy one from your local computer dealer or from Epson.
36 Installing Softw are for W indows Before you start, make sure PictureMate is NOT connected to your compute r and does NOT have a memory card insert ed in it. 1 Press the P On button to turn on PictureMate. Note: If you see a Foun d Ne w Hardware screen, click Cancel and disconnect Pictu reMate from your compu ter.
37 After a moment, you see this screen: 5 Connect the USB cab le to any open USB por t on your computer. T hen conn ect the other end to th e USB por t on the back of PictureM ate. Y our Pi ctureMate software is installed. Note: If you see a screen like th is one, remove your memory card and click the X in the corner to close it.
38 8 Follow the on-screen instructions to reg ister your PictureMate. 9 When you’re done, remove the CD. Now you can print photos from your com puter on PictureMate (see page 40). Installing Software for Macintosh Before you start, make sure PictureMate is NOT connected to your Macintos h and does NOT have a memory card insert ed in it.
39 5 Read the license ag reement and click Accept . 6 Follow the on-screen instructions to install the software. After a few minutes, you see this screen: 7 Connect the USB cable to any open U SB por t on your Macintosh. Then connect the other end to the USB por t on the back of Pictu reMate.
40 8 When you see this screen, click Add Printer . 9 Follow the steps on the righ t side of the screen to add PictureMate. 10 Follow the on-screen inst ruct ions to install the rest of the software and register yo ur PictureMate. 11 When you’re done, eject the CD.
41 Printing from the Windo ws Photo Gallery/Photo Viewer Note: Screens may vary de pending on y our operating system . 1 Locate the photo you want to print on your computer. 2 Right-click the photo, highlight Open With , and select Windows Photo Gallery (Windows Vista) or Windows Photo Viewer (Win dows 7 and Windows 8).
42 Y ou see the printer settings wind ow: 6 Choose from the fo llowing settings: ● Select Borderless to print a photo without borders. Select Borders to print with a white border all around. ● Borderle ss prints are automatically expanded. If too much of your photo edges are cut of f , set the Expansio n slider to Min .
43 ● Select Print Preview to see what your photo will look like before you print. ● Select the number of copies you want to print. Tip: For more informatio n about printer sett ings, click Help . 7 Click OK . 8 When you return to the Windows Photo Gallery/ Photo Viewer , click Print to star t printi ng.
44 5 When you see this screen, select the p hoto(s) you want to print and clic k Next . 6 Wh en you see this screen, select your EPSON PictureMate model and click Printing Preferences .
45 Y ou see the printe r settings screen: 7 Choose from the fo llowing settings: ● Select Borderless to print a photo without borders. Select Borders to print with a white border all around. ● Borderle ss prints are automatically expanded. If too much of your photo edges are cut of f , set the Expansion slider to Min .
46 Tip: For more informatio n about printer sett ings, click Help . 8 Click OK . 9 At the Photo Printing Wizard screen, click Next . 10 When you see this screen, select Full page photo print and click Next . During printing, this window appears on your computer screen showing the prog ress of your print job.
47 Printing F rom a Macintosh See the section below for your Mac OS operating system. Mac OS X 10.5 and later Note: Screens may vary de pending on y our operating system . 1 Start your print program and open the photo you want to p rint. 2 Open the File menu and select Pr int .
48 6 Select the direction you want your photo to print ( for portrait, for landscape facing right, or for landscape facing left) as the Orientatio n. 7 Select Print Settings from the pop-up menu.
49 From this window , you can do the following: ● T o cancel printing, click the print job and click Delete . ● T o pause printing, click the print j ob and click Hold . ● T o resume printing, click a print job marked “Hold” and click Resume .
50 ● Select 4 × 6 in (Borderless) to print without any borders. ● Select 4 × 6 in (Borders) to print with white borders all arou nd. Note: iPhoto ® expands two sides of an image t o the maximum print area, so y ou may see small borders in iPhoto prin ts.
51 ● Y ou can change the Co lor Option and see the effects on the sample photo (the changes don’t af fect your original) . Sepia changes the colors to brown for an old- fashioned look . Black & Whit e changes a co lor photo to black-and-white.
52 12 From this window , you can do the following: ● T o cancel printing, click the print job and click Delete . ● T o pause printing, click the print j ob and click Hold . ● T o resume printing, click a print job marked “Hold” and click Resume .
53 Y ou can inser t a memory card into PictureMate and copy the photos from the card to your computer . Y ou can also copy photos from your computer to the memory card. Make sure your PictureMate software is installed and PictureMate i s connected to your com puter as described in “Installin g Software and Connecting PictureMate” o n page 3 5.
54 What happens when your computer detects your photos depends on the type of system you have. See below for Windows XP or later. F or Windows 2000 and Macintosh, s ee page 5 5. Win dows XP or lat er Y ou may see a screen like this: Note: If you don’t see this s creen, remove your mem ory card from PictureMate an d insert it again.
55 Windows 2 000 Access your card just as you would access a drive on your computer . T o copy photos to and from your computer and card, drag and drop the photos to the card or folder. Make sure the photo files meet the requiremen ts described in “Suppor ted Photo Formats” on page 6.
56 When PictureMate needs a new Print Pack, you will see a message on the screen. The Print Pack contains a new photo car tridge and photo paper. When you need a new Print P ack, see these sections: .
57 Replacing the P hoto Cartridge Make sure you have a new Picture Mate Print P ack before you remove the old photo cartridge. Once you remove the cartridge, you must inst all the new one right away . Caution: Before y ou replace the cartridge, read the “Photo Cartridge Safety Instructions” on page 89.
58 4 Pull out the cartrid ge and dispose of it properl y . (For appropriate disposal, check local resources for recycling guidelines.) Warning: Keep photo cartridg es out of the reach of children and do no t drink the ink. If ink gets on your hand s, wash them thoroughly with soap and water.
59 7 Slide the lever right, to the Lock position. Caution: If the cartridge is not inserted co rrectly, PictureMate will n ot be able to print . 8 Close the cartridge door all the way . Checking Photo Cartridge Status Y ou can check the status of your photo car tridge at any time.
60 PictureMate’s han dle makes it easy to carry short distances. Note: You can’t raise the hand le all the way up; it’s designed to balance the printer’s weight. Packing Your PictureMate If PictureMate is going to tra vel a longer distance, pack it carefully to help p rotect it from getting damaged.
61 Y ou can change the way PictureMate works by using the Setup menu. Y ou can set the following prefer ences: ● Select the source for displaying and printin g photos (see page 24) ● Change the Ex.
62 Setting the Date and Time 1 Press the Menu button on the remote control . 2 Select Setup and press OK . 3 Select Date/T ime and press OK . 4 Press u or d to change the year, then press r to move to the month. 5 Repeat step 4 for the month and day , then press OK .
63 Changing PictureMate’s Language Y ou can change the language on PictureMate’s screen to French. 1 Press the Menu button on the remote control . 2 Select Setup and press OK . 3 Select Language and press OK . 4 Select the language you want, then press OK .

65 Checking and Cleaning the Print Head If your pr int quality i s not as good as it used to be—if photos are too light, are missing colors, or have li nes running through them—Pic tureMate’s print head nozzles may need cleaning. Y ou can check the nozzles an d clean the print head if necessary.
66 Note: You can also clean the print h ead by selecting Auto Cleaning fr om the Ma intenance menu. If you see the photo cartridge low warning, you m ay not be able to clean the p rint head until you replac e the photo cartrid ge.
67 Aligning the Print Head If you have moved PictureMate and print quality is not as good as it used to be—if your pri nts look fuzzy or have light or dark lines running through them— you may need to align the print head. 1 Load paper in PictureMate so you can prin t the head alignment pattern.
68 Note: The square you select becomes the mid dle square (#5) the next time you align the pri nt head. Aligning the Print Hea d Using the Comput er Y ou can align the print head using your compu ter . 1 Make sure PictureMate is connected to yo ur computer and paper i s loaded.
69 Realignment to print another alignment pattern and repeat this step. Note: The square you select becomes the mid dle square (#5) the next time you align the pri nt head. Cleaning PictureMate T o keep PictureMate working at its best, you s hould clean it several times a year .
70 4 Push in the battery holder un til it clicks into place. Printing and Oper ation Problems If you have problems with Picture Mate, check the suggestions on the followi ng pages. Y ou can also press the button on the re mote control for troubleshooti ng help.
71 PictureMate makes an unex pect ed noise after you install a photo cartridge. The first time you install the photo car tridge, PictureMate charges its prin t head for about three and a half minutes. Wait until charging finishes before yo u turn it of f, or it may charge impr operly and use more ink the next time you turn it on.
72 Printing is too slow . ● It takes a few moments for PictureMate to process your images before printing th em. ● If PictureMate is in a hot or sunny location , move it to a cooler place and try printing again. ● If you print continuously fo r 30 minutes, PictureMate may slow down to prevent overheating.
73 Software Install ation Problems ● Follow the instructions begi nning on page 35 to install your software. Do n’t connect Picture Mate to your computer until you are instructed to. ● Close other prog rams, includi ng screen savers and virus protection software , and try installing again.
74 ● Make sure your paper isn’t damaged, old, dir ty , or loaded face down. If it is, load new paper with the glossy or whiter side up. Colors in your p hoto are wrong or missing. ● Make sure the Color Effect setting is not set to Black & Whit e or Sepia .
75 ● Don’t load plain paper; this may da mage PictureMate. ● Use only PictureMate photo paper or Epson Premium Photo Paper Glossy or Semigloss. (See page 6.) ● Store paper flat to help prevent curling. Miscellaneous Printout Problems PictureMate prints blank pages.
