It’s us ually w hiter or bright er than th e other s ide. ■ If the paper has a cut c orne r, posi tion it in the up per ri ght co rner as you l oad it i n the sh eet feed er.

Printing on CDs and Special Media 53 Inserting a CD or DVD Make sure the data, mu sic, or video is burn ed on your ink-jet pri ntable CDs or DVDs before you print. Otherwise, dirt o r scra tches on the s urface may cause erro rs when you burn th e data.

78 Maintaining Your Printer Ink Cartridge Precautions Warning: Keep ink ca rtridges out of the reac h of chi ldren. If ink ge ts on your h ands, wa sh them thoroug hly with s oap an d water. If ink gets in your eyes, f lush them t horough ly with water.
Maintaining Your Printer 79 The red light also begins to fl ash or remain s on. ■ If it flas hes at th e same spee d as the gre en light , replace the black ca rtridge. ■ If it flashes twice as fast as the g r een light, repla ce the colo r ink cartridge.
80 Maintaining Your Printer 6. Lower the new cartridge down into the holde r. Make sure the tabs rest on the hooks in back. Caution: Don’t plac e the c artridge t abs und er the hook s; yo u may damag e the clamp wh en you close it. 7. Press down firmly o n the ink cartridge clamp until it snaps in place.

Caution: Never use a har d or a brasive bru sh, or benzine, alco hol, or paint t hinne r for clea ning; th ey can d amage the p rinter compo nents a nd cas e.

Solving Problems 91 Diagnosing Printer Problems First, check the printer’s lig hts (see be low) or run a printer che ck (see page 92). Lights Explanation Green power light flashes The printer is receiving a print job, replacing an ink cartr idge, charging ink, or cleaning the print head.
92 Solving Problems Runnin g a Pri nter Check You can run a pri nter check t o determ ine wheth er a problem co mes from th e printer or some othe r source. 1. Turn off your printer and compute r. 2. Disconnect the printe r’s interface cable. 3. Load lett er-size paper in the p rinter.
