Introduction • About this Guide • System Compatibility 1 This guide describes how to install and configur e your new Smart Energy thermostat. This product r eplaces most thermostats, including those that work with: • Standar d Heat and Cool Systems • T wo-Stage H eat and T wo-Stage Cool Systems • Air Source Heat P ump (with Aux.

5 Remov e the Old Thermostat Important: Do not let wires fall back into the wall. 1. R emove the front co ver of the old thermostat. 2 . With wir es still attached, remo ve wall plate from the wall by loosening the scr ews. If the old thermostat has a wall mounting plate, remo ve both the thermostat and the wall mounting plate.

CA UTION STEP 2. Mount the Ne w Thermostat 1. U npack the thermostat and separate the mounting plate from the thermostat.
O/B G W/E W2 L Y2 Y1 RC RH C C 7 3. Once you have established the desir ed location of the thermostat, use a pencil, and the wall plate as a template, to mark the location of the mounting holes on your wall. 4. Mo ve wall plate out of the way and drill two holes using a 3/16" drill bit.
8 Connect wires as follows: • If necessary , strip insulation about 3/8 inch from the end of the wir e. • U se the table you previously filled out on the back of the installation manual (or the wir ing chart on page 20) to locate the corr ect terminal for each wire connection.
9 STEP 3. Configure the Thermostat 1. T o enter the INST ALLA TION MENU, simultaneously press and hold and for 3 seconds. Y ou will be greeted with the following disclaimer .
NO TE: The pr esence of a wir e in the W2 terminal is a good indication that the user has two-stage equipment located inside the house (furnace, air handler , or boiler). The pr esence of a wire in the Y2 terminal is a good indication that the homeo wner has two-stage equipment located outside the house (air conditioner or heat pump).
11 3. About This Device Installation > About This Device By properly identifying the type of equipment on pr emise in the HV AC Equipment Setup portion of the installation menu, no further modifications to the thermostat are r equired.
This feature is intended to help pr otect the compressor from short cycling. Some newer compr essors already have a time delay built in and do not requir e this feature. Y our compressor manufacturer can verify if the lockout featur e is already present in their system.
This configures whether the O/B terminal for the heat pump r eversing valve will be energized during cool (O) or heat (B) mode. 4D. O/B Configuration Installation > Advanced HV AC Options > O/B .
STEP 4. Check Thermostat Operation T o prevent compr essor and/or proper ty damage, DO NO T operate the cooling system if the outdoor temperature is belo w 55° F . CA UTION Once you have installed your new ther mostat, you need to check that the fan, cooling system, and heating system are all operating properly .
Check the heating system 1 . Pr ess Heating / Cooling Mode key one or mor e times to select HEA T mode. If the auxiliary heating system has a standing pilot, be sure to light it. 2. P ress the to adjust thermostat setting to 1° abo ve room temperature.
Check the back-up heating system (heat pump systems only): The Back U p Heat bypasses the heat pump to use the heat source wired to E & W2 terminals of the thermostat.
STEP 5. P air Device to a Home Area Network Installation > N etwork Settings > Installation I nformation F rom the NETWORK SETTINGS screen, highlight INST ALL A TION INFORMA TION and press .
Once you have pro vided the two numbers above you will be asked to send a “Join ” request from the thermostat. T o do so go to the NETWORK CONNECTION screen. STEP 3 P ress the CONNECT key . STEP 4 Y ou may have to wait up to 3 minutes for the pairing process to be completed.
STEP 6. V erify Wireless Connectivity The following scr een in the NETWORK SETTINGS area of the installation menu will serve as fur ther confirmation of network connectivity: STEP 1 On the home screen, a wir eless icon will also confirm that the unit is in fact connected to a network coordinator .
