Read and understand this manual and the SAFETY MANUAL you found in the same package. You will find both easy to use and full of helpful operating tips and SAFETY messages.

6 FUEL W ARNING DANGER Fuel is VERY flammable. Use extreme care when mixing, storing or handling or serious personal injury may result. • Use an approved fuel container. • DO NOT smoke near fuel. • DO NOT allow flames or sparks near fuel. • Fuel tanks/cans may be under pressure.
H EDGE C LIPPER O PERA T OR ' S M ANUAL 7 Eye Protection Wear eye protection meeting ANSI Z87.1 of CE requirements whenever you operate the unit. Face and Head Protection When trimming overhead, wear head protection meeting ANSI Z89.1 or CE requirements with a full face shield.
8 SAFE OPERA TION Determine Operation Area • Provide all operators of this equipment with the Operator's Manuals and instructions for safe operation. • Review the area to be trimmed. Look for hazards that could contribute to unsafe conditions.
H EDGE C LIPPER O PERA T OR ' S M ANUAL 9 Operation (HCA) • Never adjust blade angle of HCA while standing. • Only adjust cutting angle with HCA resting flat on the ground, with the engine stop switch in the "STOP" position. • Adjust cutting angle by moving locking lever (A) up.
10 EXTENDED OPERA TION / EXTREME CONDITIONS Vibration and Cold It is believed that a condition called Raynaud’s Phenomenon, which affects the fingers of certain individuals may be brought about by exposure to vibration and cold.

16 THROTTLE LINKAGE INST ALLA TION (SHC-2400, HCA-2400) NOTE The engine is delivered separated from shaft tube. The throttle linkage and stop switch wires are attached to the rear handle. 1 . Close choke and remove air filter cover. 2 . Loosen outer 10mm nut (A) on throttle linkage.
H EDGE C LIPPER O PERA T OR ' S M ANUAL 17 P RE -O PERA TION FUEL Fuel Requirements Gasoline - Use 89 Octane [ ] (mid-grade or higher) gasoline or gasohol known to be good quality. Gasohol may contain up to 10% Ethyl (grain) alcohol or 15% MTBE (methyl tertiary-butyl ether).
18 IMPORTANT Stored fuel ages. Do not mix more fuel than you expect to use in thirty (30) days, ninety (90) days when a fuel stabilizer is added. IMPORTANT Stored two-stroke fuel may separate.
H EDGE C LIPPER O PERA T OR ' S M ANUAL 19 DETERMINE OPERA TION AREA W ARNING DANGER Inspect starting area for hazards such as rocks, glass, debris etc. which could be contacted by the cutting blades when starting. Keep helpers and bystanders at least 15 M (50 ft.
20 • Never adjust blade angle of HCA while standing • Only adjust cutting angle with HCA resting flat on the ground, with the engine stop switch in the "STOP" position. • Adjust cutting angle by moving locking lever (A) up. Depress blade indexing lever (B) and change blade angle with rear cutter assembly handle.
H EDGE C LIPPER O PERA T OR ' S M ANUAL 21 4A. Starting (SHC-1700, 2100, 2400) Lay the trimmer on a flat, clear area. Firmly grasp throttle grip with left hand and fully depress throttle trigger to wide open position. Rapidly pull starter handle/rope (D) until engine fires (or maximum five (5) pulls.
22 SHC-1700, 2100 B C D B C D SHC-2400 HCA-2400 2. Primer - Pump Bulb. Pump primer bulb until fuel is visible in the "Clear" fuel return line. 3A. Starting - (SCH-1700, 2100, 2400) Lay trimmer on a flat, clear area and pull starter handle/rope (D) until engine fires.
H EDGE C LIPPER O PERA T OR ' S M ANUAL 23 STOPPING ENGINE ( HCA - 2400 ) 1. Release Throttle . Allow engine to idle down and blades stop moving with throttle trigger disengaged. 2. Release "Ignition/Idle Interlock - Move "Stop Switch" to STOP position.

26 SP ARK PLUG Level 2. Tools Required: T-Wrench. Feeler gauge. Preferably a wire gauge. Brush. Parts Required: Spark Plug, (SHC-1700/2100) NGK BPM-7A P/N 15901010630 (SHC-2400, HCA-2400) NGK BPM-7Y P/N 99944500071 1 . Remove spark plug and check for fouling, worn and rounded center electrode.
H EDGE C LIPPER O PERA T OR ' S M ANUAL 27 D C B E 1 . Remove spark plug lead from the spark plug and throttle linkage end from the carburetor swivel. 2 . Remove the four screws that retain the engine cover. Two at the top of the starter, two on either side of the front.
28 CARBURETOR ADJUSTMENT Emission Models (with limiter caps) Level 2. Tools required: Screwdriver, Tachometer (ECHO P/N 99051130017). Parts required: None. NOTE Every unit is run at the factory and the carburetor is set in compli- ance with EPA Phase 1 and California Emission Regulations.

30 LUBRICA TION Blades Level 1. Tools Required: Clean Rag, Brush , Oil Can, (2) 10 mm wrenches. Parts Required: 20W Engine Oil (lubrication), 50-50 mixture of kerosene and 20W oil (cleaning). W ARNING DANGER Blades are very sharp. Wear gloves to protect hands, otherwise serious personal injury may result.
