8 CS-450P VIBRA TION AND COLD • It is belie v ed that a condition called Raynaud’ s Phenomenon, which affects the fingers of certain individuals, ma y be brought about by e xposure to vibration and cold. Exposure to vibration and cold ma y cause tingling and burning f ollow ed by loss of color and numbness in the fingers .
9 CS-450P SP ARK ARREST OR MUFFLER • The spark arrestor muffler controls the e xhaust noise and prev ents hot, glowing par ticles of carbon from leaving the muffler . Make sure the spark arrestor screen is in good repair and properly seated in the muffler .
10 CS-450P WARNING Saw chain is sharp! Always wear gloves when handling assembly, otherwise serious personal injury may result. GUIDE B AR AND SA W CHAIN INST ALLA TION/REMO V AL NOTE • Move the chain brake lever (Front hand guard) fully rearward to remove or install the clutch cover to chain saw.

12 CS-450P FUEL AND LUBRICANT FUEL ST A TEMENT GASOLINE - Use 89 Octane [(R+M)/2] (mid grade or higher) gasoline or gasohol known to be good quality . Gasohol may contain up to 10 % Eth yl (grain) alcohol or 15 % MTBE (methyl teriary-butyl ether). Gasohol containing methyl (w ood) alcohol is NO T approv ed.
13 CS-450P HANDLING FUEL MIXING INSTRUCTIONS - 1. Fill an approv ed fuel container with half of the required amount of gasoline. 2. Add the proper amount of two-strok e oil to gasoline. 3. Close container and shake to mix oil with gasoline. 4. Add remaining gasoline, close fuel container , and remix.
14 CS-450P Oil tank cap Fuel tank cap Cap indication Fuel/oil tanks are indicated by the following illustrations. CHAIN LUBRICANT Proper lubrication of the chain while in operation reduces friction between the chain and the guide bar to a minimum and assures a longer service life .
15 CS-450P WHEN THE ENGINE IS COLD CAUTION Make sure the bar and chain are free from any obstruction when starting the chain saw. • Mov e chain brak e le ver fully f orw ard to lock chain brak e before starting. • Fill the fuel tank with fuel mixture.

17 CS-450P CUTTING INSTR UCTION GENERAL CAUTION • Read the ECHO “CHAIN SAW SAFETY MANUAL” included with your chain saw for additional cutting and safety instructions. • Wear suitable hearing protection such as earmuffs or earplugs to protect against objectionable or uncomfortable loud noises.
18 CS-450P FELLING THE TREE A f alling tree can seriously damage anything it ma y hit - a car , a house, a f ence, a po wer-line, or another tree. There are wa ys to make a tree f all where you w ant it, so first decide where that is! Bef ore cutting, clear the area around the tree.
19 CS-450P LIMBING Limbing a fallen tree is m uch the same as b ucking. Ne ver stand on the tree that y ou are limbing. When limbing, caution is the word. Be careful of the tip touching other limbs. Alwa ys use both hands . Don’t cut with the saw o verhead or aligned vertically with your body .
20 CS-450P CHAIN BRAKE OPERA TION • Set the lev er in the unlock ed position before star ting to cut. • If the brake is tripped by kickbac k reaction, the chain will stop immediately . Release the throttle to av oid possible damage to the engine or clutch.
21 CS-450P A UT OMA TIC CHAIN BRAKE Kickbac k produced from the tip of the guide bar will trip the automatic chain brake . T o mak e sure that the automatic chain brake oper ates proper ly , follow these steps: 1. Stop the engine. 2. Hold the saw with the guide bar appro ximately 50 cm abov e a wooden surf ace.

23 CS-450P MAINTENANCE AND CARE Y our ECHO chain saw is designed to pro vide many hours of trouble free service. Regular scheduled maintenance will help your chain sa w achiev e that goal. If you are unsure or are not equipped with the necessar y tools, y ou ma y want to tak e your unit to an ECHO Ser vice Dealer for maintenance .
24 CS-450P CARBURET OR ADJUSTMENT Every unit is run at the factory and the carburetor is set in compliance with Emission Regulations. In addition, the carburetor is equipped with “H” (High Speed) and “L ” (Low Speed) needle adjustment limiters that pre vent settings outside acceptab le limits.

27 CS-450P SETTING THE SA W CHAIN Impor tant points for proper maintenance of sa w chain: • K eep the cutters shar p at all times. • K eep the left and the r ight cutters properly aligned. - Note that b lunt or irregular cutters will result in poor cutting performance, increased vibration of chains and premature breakage of the saw chain.
