ENTRAPMENT PROTECTION This vehicular gate operator is equipped with a n in herent (Type A) entrapment sensing system. This system will sense an obstructi on in both the opening and closing gate cycle s, and will cause the gate to reverse direction should an obst ruction be encoun tered.
GLOSSARY GATE – A moving barrier su ch as a swinging, slidin g, raising, lowering, or th e like, barrier, that is a stand-alone passag e barrier or is that p ortion of a wa ll or fe nce system that cont rols entrance and/or egress by persons or vehicl es and completes the peri meter of a defined area.

SECTION 1 - INST ALLA TION Prior to beginning the installation of the slide gate operator, we suggest that you become familiar wit h the instructions, illustration s, and wiring guide-lines in this manu al. This will help insure that your installation is performed in an efficient and professio nal manner.
1.2 MOUNTING POSITIONS The Model 9100 ope rator is designed so that it can be installed in a ny of the mounting positions shown below. On ce the mounting position ha s been determined, the chain i dlers must be adjusted t o accommodate the mounting po sition c hosen before the operator is mounted to the pad or p ost.
1.2.3 REAR POSITION PAD OR POST MOUNT • Set one chain idler at t he top position and one chain idler at the center position on the same side of the operator. • Remove the top and bottom chain knockouts from the side of the operator. • Chain enters and exits the operator from the same side.
1.3 MOUNTING OP TIONS Pad mounting can be use d when the operator will b e installed using either the front or rear mounting position. If the operator is to be center mounted, the post mountin g method must be used. 1.3.1 PAD MOUNTED OPERATORS Gate Minimum 1" clearance between gate and back of operator.
1.3.2 POST MOUNTED OPERATORS Post mounting can be used when th e operator will be installed in any of the three mo unting positions, and must be used if the operator is to be center mount ed.
1.4 OPERATOR INSTALLATION Prior to mounting the gate operator, be sure that th e chain kno ckouts and chain idlers are set for the mounting position (front, center or rear) and the mounting option chos en (p ad or post). Refer back to SECTION 1.2. 1.4.
1.5 CHAIN INSTALLATION 1.5.1 FRONT – PAD MOUNT 1. Secure the chain brackets to each end of the gate so that the brackets are level with the top chain knockouts in the operato r housing. Brackets sho uld be attached to the inside of the frame so th at the chain bolts, when attached, do not protrude beyo nd the frame of the gate (figure 10).
1.5.2 FRONT – POST MOUNT 1. Secure the chain brackets to each end of the gate so that the brackets are level with the bottom chai n idlers in the operator housing. Brackets should b e attached to the inside of the frame so that the chai n bolts, when attached, do not protrude beyond the frame of the gate.
1.5.3 REAR – PAD OR POST MOUNT 1. Install an endless idler assembly (p/n 2600-818) at the gate op ening between the gate and fence (figure 16, 18 ). Note that the chain is routed between th e fence and the gate in this type of installation. IMPORTANT!! Be sure that the idler assembly is se curely attached to the gatepost, pilaster, etc .
1.5.4 CENTER – POST MOUNT 1. Install an endless idler assembly (p/n 2600-818) at each end of the gate opening (figure 21). Note that the gate travels between the fence and the chain in this type of installation. IMPORTANT!! Be sure that the idler post/moun t assembly is secure.
1.6 WARNING SIGN INSTALLATION This DoorKing slide gate operator is shipped with two warning signs. The purpose of the wa rning signs is to alert unifo rmed persons, an d to remind persons familiar with the system, that a potential hazard may exist so that appropriate action can be ta ken to avoid the hazard or to redu ce exposure to the hazard.

SECTION 2 – WIRING Before attempting to connect any wiring to the oper ator, be sure that the circuit breaker in the electrical panel is i n the OFF position. Permanent wi ring must be installed to th e operator as required by local electrical co des.
2.1 HIGH VOLTAGE CONNECTIONS Use Table 1 to determine high voltage wire size re quirements. T he distance shown in the chart i s measured in feet from the operator to the power so urce. If power wiring is grea ter than the maximum distance shown, it is re commended that a se rvice feeder be installed.
2.2 CONTROL WIRING Controls must be far en ough from the gate so that th e user is prevented from co ming in contact with the gate w hile operating the controls. Outdo or or easily accessible controls should have a security feature to prev ent unauthori zed use.
2.3 SECONDARY ENTRAPMENT PR OTECT ION DEVICE WIRING Secondary entrapment protection devi ces must be in stalled to insure a safe o perating environment and to reduce the risk of entrapment. This operato r has inputs f or non-contact sensors a nd contact sensors for both opening and closing g ate cycles.
2.3.2 CONTACT SENSORS • Disconnect power to the gate operator before installing the contact sensors. • Connect the contact se nsors as shown below to the auxiliary terminal strip located on the 4602 control board.
2.4 LOOP DETE CTOR WIRING Loops and loop detectors must be installed with th is gate operator to prevent the gate from accidentally closing on vehicles t hat may be in the path of the gate. • Loop detector wiring is shown for DoorKing model 9406 Plug-In loop dete ctor only.
2.5 GATE TRACKER™ CONNECTIONS This gate operator is equi pped with outputs from the circuit board that will repo rt operator status to a companion DoorKin g Access Control Sy stem (M odel 1803P C, 1815, 1817 or 1818) whe n equipped with an optional Tracker expansi on board.
2.6 AUXILIARY DEVICES 2.6.1 ALARM RESET SWITCH The gate operator is equi pped with a reset switch th at will silence the entrapment ala rm and return the operator to normal operation after a hard s hutdown occurs. An aux iliary reset button may be added provided that the following conditi on is met.
2.7 MASTER / SLAVE WIRING 2.7.1 OPERATOR INTERFACE The interface wiring between the two operato rs requir es four (4) 18 AWG wires for control plus two (2) additional 18 AWG wires for secondary entrapment protection device connection. Each operator must be connected to it' s own power source as de scribed in section 2.
2.7.2 SECONDARY ENTRAPMENT PROTECTION DEVICE WIRING Secondary entrapment p rotection for slide gate o per ators connected in a m aster / slave configuratio n will require three sets of photo-beams to insure protection.
2.8 TERMINAL IDENTIFI CATION AND DESCRIPTION 2.8.1 MAIN TERMINAL 1. RADIO RECEIVER LOW VOLTAGE COMMON 2. RADIO RECEIVER FULL OPEN INPUT 3. RADIO RECEIVER 24 VAC POWER – 250-ma MAX 4. FULL OPEN / CLOSE INPUT When gate is closed, input w ill open gate to full position.
2.8.2 AUXILIARY TERMINAL The auxiliary terminal is located on the 4602 circuit b oard just to the right of main terminal s 8 and 9. Auxiliary terminals are numbered 1 through 5 with the first terminal at the top. 1. OPEN PHOTO-BEAM This input is only active when the gate is in the opening cycle.
SECTION 3 - ADJUSTMENTS The switch settings and adjustments in this chapte r should be made after your installation and wiri ng to the operator(s) is comp lete. Whenever any of the programming switche s on the circuit board are changed, power must be shut-off, and then turned back on for the new setting to take effect.
3.2 SWITCH SETTINGS The two DIP-switches located on th e circuit board are used to p rogram the operator to operate i n various modes and to turn on or off various op erating features. When ever a switch setting is changed, power to the o perator must be turn ed OFF and then turned back o n for the new setting to take affect.
3.2.1 SW 1 (LEFT SWITCH) DESCRIPTION AND FUNCTION Sw it ch 1 : Set so that the operator cycles open u pon initial power up and open command. If the operator cycles close, turn power o ff and change the setting on this switch. Sw it ch 2 : Turns the auto close timer on or off.
3.3 AUTOMATIC LIMIT ADJUSTMENT This gate operator does n ot use any mechanical limit switches or run timers to adjust the open and close positions of th e gate. The gate op en and clos e po sitions are determined by the physical stops (or chain stops) of the gate.
3.4 INHERENT REVE RSE ADJUSTMENT This vehicular gate operator is equipped with a n in herent (Type A) entrapment sensing system. This system will sense an obstru ction in either the opening or clos ing gate cycles and will cause the gate to reverse direction should an obst ruction be encounte red.
3.4.2 CLUTCH ADJUSTMENT In addition to the reverse sensitivity adjustment, this operator is equipped with a mech anical slip clutch to further re duce the possibility of injury should an entrapment occur.
SECTION 4 – OPERA TING INSTRUCTIONS WARNING - To reduce the risk of injury or death: 1. READ AND FOLLOW ALL INSTRUCTIO NS. 2. Never let children ope rate or play with gate controls. Keep the remote cont rol away from children. 3. Always keep people and o bjects away from gate.
4.2 SHUTDOWN CONDITIONS Under various entrapme nt conditions the operator will assume eith er a soft or hard shutdown (alarm) condition. To determine what type of reset acti on is required, y ou will nee d to understand how the different entrapment conditions affect the gate ope rator.
4.2.3 HARD SHUTDOWN A hard shutdown condition occu rs when the inhe rent entrapme nt protection system has sensed two consecutive obstructions before the gate rea ches the full open or full closed position.
4.3 MANUAL / EMERGE NCY GATE OPERATION This operator is equi pped with a manual releas e system that will allow th e gate to be pushed open in the event of a power outage or equipment failure. There are two manual release system s that are available on this gat e ope rator.
4.3.3 FAIL-SECURE MANUAL OPERATION The FAIL-SECURE option locks the gate whe n prim ary (AC) power is removed and requires a keyed release to place the gate in manual operation. Th e FAIL-SECURE option is typically used in CLASS III and CLASS IV applications.

SECTION 5 – MAINTENANCE AND TROUBLESHOOTING Inspection and service of this gate op erator by a qualified technici an should be performed a nytime a malfunction is observed or suspected. High cycl e usa ge may require more frequent service checks. 5.
5.2 TROUBLESHOOTING Have a good VOM meter to che ck voltages and continuity. A Meg-Ohm meter cap able of checking up to 500 meg-ohms of re sistance is necessary to properly check the integrity of the gro und loops. When a malfunction occurs, isolate the problem to one of three areas: 1) the operator, 2) the loop system, 3) the key ing device s.
Gate opens a short distance, then stops and reverses. • Check that the clutch is adjusted properly and is not slipping. • Disconnect the gate from the gate operator and check that the ga te slides freely without any binding. • Re-adjust the reverse sensitivity.
MOTOR / BELT ACCESS To gain access to the insi de of the gate operator, loosen the two bolts on each side of the electrical panel at the bottom. The entire panel can then swing up for ea sy access into the operator. CAUTION!! Be sure po w er is OFF before accessing the inside of the oper ator.
5.3 ACCESSORIES The following accessory items can be used with the m odel 9100 slide gate operator. Contact Sensor Contact sensor s for use as a secondary ent rapment protection devi ce. Miller Edge, Inc. ME120, ME 123, MG020, MGR20, MGS20 Photo Cell Non-contact (photo cells) sens ors for use as a secondary entrapm ent protection device.
