13 © 2006 Directed Electronics step 1 Gr ound Wire The BLACK (H1/5) wire on the main 8-pin harness is gr ound. F irst strip back a ¾-inch section of the insulation off the BLACK wire and crimp a ring terminal (not pr o vided) to that wire. Locate a clean, paint-free metal surface in the drivers kick panel.
14 © 2006 Directed Electronics step 2 Constant P ower and Ignition wires Almost all pow er and ignition wires can be found behind the key cylinder under the low er drivers side dash panel. U sing the appropriate hand tools, r emo ve the lo wer dash panel using care not to break any parts.

17 © 2006 Directed Electronics step 3 Accessory and Star ter wires The starter and accessor y wires will be located in the same harness as the ignition and constant pow er . T o find the accessor y wire leav e the LED tester black lead connected to the metal ground, take the r ed lead and probe the wire suspected to be the accessory .
18 © 2006 Directed Electronics insulation off a small portion and solder the thick ORANGE (3) wire of the heavy gauge wir e and wrap it with electrical tape. If your v ehicle requir es more than one accessor y , an additional relay (not pr o vided) is requir ed.

20 © 2006 Directed Electronics step 4 Safety Shutdo wn Wires With all ignition wir es properly connected, find the appropriate safety shutdown wir es. These are the brake wir e and hood pin wires. F irst locate the factor y brake wir e using your test probe.

22 © 2006 Directed Electronics Place the wir e with the spade connector onto the pin switch and run the wire into the vehicle ’ s passenger compar tment through a factor y rubber grommet. U sing a sharp , pointed object poke a hole into the grommet and attach the wir e to the object with electrical tape.

24 © 2006 Directed Electronics U sing the web information on the vehicle, locate the suspected wire and place the r ed lead of the test probe to a constant (+)12 volt source and secur e it. Leave the black test probe lead in the kick panel,. P robe the suspected wire with the test pr obe.

26 © 2006 Directed Electronics step 6 Door Loc ks The system comes with a built in relay pack for door lock oper- ation. When attempting to inter face the po wer door locks with your system it is important to understand that there ar e multiple types of door locking systems in today's vehicles.

28 © 2006 Directed Electronics must have a vacuum actuator in each door . Make sur e that lock- ing the doors from the driver's or passenger side using the key activates all the actuators in the vehicle. This requires a slight modification to the door lock harness.

30 © 2006 Directed Electronics type B: negative-triggered, rela y-driven system This system is common in many T oyota, N issan, Honda, and Saturn models, as w ell as F or ds with the keyless-entr y system (some other F or ds also use T ype B). The switch will have thr ee wires on it, and one wir e will test ground all the time.
31 © 2006 Directed Electronics type C: direct-wired, rever sing-polarity system testing rever sing polarity systems U se these instructions if the power door lock switch has four or five heavy-gauge wir es. This type of switch has two outputs that rest at (-) gr ound.
32 © 2006 Directed Electronics I t is critical to identify the proper wires and locate the master switch to interface properly . Locate wires that show v oltage when the switch is mo ved to the lock or unlock position. C ut one of the suspect wires and check operation of the locks fr om both switches.
33 © 2006 Directed Electronics ■ H H 2 2 / / 4 4 V V I I O O L L E E T T / / B B L L A A C C K K : : This wire must be connected to a constant (+)12 volts. The best connection point for this wire is the constant (+)12V supply for the door lock switch*, or direct- ly to the positive (+) battery post with a fuse at the batter y post.

35 © 2006 Directed Electronics type E: electrically-activ ated vacuum This system is found in M ercedes-Benz and A udi 1985 and newer . The door locks are controlled by an electrically activ ated vacuum pump . The control wire will sho w (+)12V when doors are unlocked and (-) gr ound when locked.
36 © 2006 Directed Electronics type F: one-wire system (cut to loc k, gr ound to unloc k) This type of door lock system usually requir es a negative pulse to unlock, and cutting the wire to lock the door . (With some vehicles, these ar e rev ersed.) I t is found in the late-model Nissan Sentras, some N issan 240SX, N issan 300ZX 1992 and later .
37 © 2006 Directed Electronics type G: positive (+) m ultiplex This system is most commonly found in F or d, Maz da, Chr ysler and GM vehicles. The door lock switch or door key cylinder may contain either one or two resistors.
38 © 2006 Directed Electronics pow er wire, or the (+) terminal of the battery . 3. Operate the door lock switch/key cylinder in both dir ections to determine the resistor v alues. If the multimeter displays zer o resis- tance in one direction, no r esistor is needed for that direction.

40 © 2006 Directed Electronics step 7 Engine monitoring (v oltage—default setting)—optional During r emote star t the system will need to kno w if the engine is running. The module does this by monitoring the v oltage of the vehicle ’ s electrical system (or the tachometer-see next topic).
41 © 2006 Directed Electronics On some vehicles the electrical system has too lo w of a voltage variance for the r emote start module to see. In this case the engine will start but will only r un for about ten seconds. If this is the case, it will be necessar y to use the tachometer .
42 © 2006 Directed Electronics Place the black lead of the multi-meter on the negative battery post and secure it. P ut the multi-meter in the AC position and connect the probe to the suspect wir e with the red lead of the multi-meter . Then start the vehicle with the key .
43 © 2006 Directed Electronics Since most newer v ehicles come equipped with a factor y alarm system, it is sometimes necessar y for the factory alarm to be armed/disarmed when unlocking the doors and disarmed while remote starting the vehicle. Locate the factor y alarm arm/disarm wir es using the web site vehicle information.
44 © 2006 Directed Electronics step 9 Immobilizer Bypass Modules M ost ne wer v ehicles have a factor y engine immobilizer system designed to prev ent any unauthorized use of the vehicle. These immobilizers will cut off po wer to the starter and the fuel supply prev enting a thief from starting the vehicle.

N ow r elease the button. Repeat this step within 10-seconds of programming a transmitter to program additional transmitters to your system.
47 © 2006 Directed Electronics step 11 T esting the system Once steps 1-10 have been completed, the operation of the system can be tested. Ensur e that the two 30-amp fuses are in the r elay harness RED wire fuse holders. M ake sure that the vehicle is in park with the emergency brake on and the hood closed.

57 © 2006 Directed Electronics timer mode This feature allo ws you to remotely start and run your vehicle for 12-minutes every 3 hours (for a maximum of 6 star ts for cold weather conditions). This makes it possible to warm up the engine, as well as adjust the interior temperatur e of the vehicle with the climate control system.
