12 Inst allation The following are simple exa mples of how to integrate the MP 6000 into any video setup. Obviously there are too many possible combinations to cover them a ll in detail, but these e xamples cover the most frequently used input and o utput combinations.
13 2. Connecting YUV output from the MP-6000 to a Projector . 3. Connecting Y/C or Composite video and stereo audio output s from an analogue camcorder or DVD player to the MP-6000.
14 4. Connecting a DV (IEEE1394) output from a DV camcorder or DV Deck to the MP- 6000. With this connection you can also use DV device control from the MP 6000 to cue up the tap e.
15 Quick S t art Guide: As the heading suggests, this is the quick start section. If you require more det ailed operating instructions please go to page 18. Step 1: Turn on power to the M P-6000, the source and t he monitor. Step 2: Press the “POWER” button, to turn on the MP-6000.
16 z Color z T int (This function only works on composite and S -video input in NTSC st andard.) Note: The Color Proce ssor only works on ana logue input signals, such as composite, Y/C, or component. It does not work on a DV input signal. b. Press the “ENTER” button again , and use the Left and Right arrow buttons to adjust th e level.
17 Step 14: “ERASE” the disc: This function is only used in DVD+RW discs. It can not be used with DVD+R disc. DVD+RW disc can be recorded and erased repeatedly . If there is any erro r and the recording needs to be erased, there are tw o diff erent methods to do it.
18 Setting Up Connecting Hopefully you have read the installation chapte r , and you’ve studied th e diagrams on pages 12 – 14. With your chosen source and a suitable monitor conne cted your ready to go. Connect the 12v power supply to the MP 6000 DC Input Socket, an d connect the AC power cord to a suitable socket.
19 LCD Display The LCD on the front panel of the MP 6000 displays various for ms of information. Here are some of the many examples Displayed when first switched on. Displayed briefly while the MP 6000 is booting up. Displayed when the Eject Button is pressed.
20 Setting the Time & Date With the MP 6000 powered up the LCD display sh ould be d isplaying No Disc Press the Menu Button. The LCD Display should now show the Set Up Men u. Press the Down Arrow button 3 times The LCD Display should now show option 4 System Setup.
21 Press the Right Arrow button to highlight Set T ime. Press the Right Arro w button again to highligh t Manual. Press the Enter button to open the T ime & Date settin gs Use the Left and Right Arrow buttons to naviga te the fields, and the Up and Down Arr ow button s to alter the values.
22 Press the Left Arrow button to highlig ht Set T ime Press the Down Arrow button 3 times, until Qu it is highlighted. Press the Right Arrow button to hig hlight OK And now press the Enter button to exit Setup. Finally press the Menu b utton to exit the Setup Menu and return to the General display .
23 Setting the Vi deo Input The MP 6000 has fo ur Video Input options; Co mposite Video, S-Video, Component Video (Y U V) and DV (DIGIT AL) (IEEE 1394).
24 Setting the Record Quality The MP 6000 has five Recording Quality options HQ, SP , LP , EP , SLP . The Selected option is displayed in tw o way s. LCD Display On-Screen for five seconds We will concentrate on the LCD Display Press the Quality but ton to toggle through the Rec ord Quality option s.
25 DVD+RW Press the Eject but ton, the message OPEN will be displayed on the LC D display , and the disc tray will open. Place a DVD+RW disc on the disc tray; label/printed side up. Press the Eject button again, so that the tr ay retracts, and the CLOSE message appears.
26 Recording from an Analogue Source If you are recording fro m a tape st art the tape playing, the video image sho uld appear on the TV monitor connected to the MP 6000 output. If you are recording a live image from a camer a you should be able to see the image from the came ra on the TV monitor connected to the M P 6000 output.
27 Recording from a DV IEEE1394 ( D igit al) Source If you are recording fro m a DV tape, the MP 6 000 offers device control via the IEEE 1394 cable . With device control you can contro l Fast Forward, Rewind, Pause, Play , Picture Search Fwd / Rev and S top F unctions.
28 The LCD should go to the Record Display and On-Scr een the Device Control display will be rep laced by a Rec indicator , such as this: LCD Display On-Screen Indicato r – In upper left corner of screen T o stop recording press, the S top button. The LCD will return to general display and the On-Screen d isplay will show the S top Message.
29 Each track has a data panel next to it which gives details of the Video Source, the date & time it was recorded, the length of the track in H:MM:SS and the Record Quality . (The T itle and the Icon can b e edited, we will look at this in a later chapter “Editing a T itle ”.
30 The Finalize process will start. The LCD display wi ll show the Finalize message, and the on-screen display will show a progress ba r . LCD On Screen Display The finalize process may take several minutes; you will see the progress bar becoming gradually more red from right to left.
31 Finalizing a DVD+RW Disc (Make Comp atible) S trictly speaking an RW disc doesn’t get finalized, since it is always possible to erase and re-record. The finalizing process with a DVD+R W disc is called Make Comp atible; it doesn’t close the disc to future recordings, but it does make it compatible with other DVD players and computers.
32 Editing a Title It is possible to edit the T i tle Description and the Icon of each T itle. This can only be done before the disc has been finalized; once finalized a DVD+R dis c cannot be modified.
33 On the TV monitor the T itle Editing Panel will appear Use the Up, Do wn, Left and Right Arrow buttons to highlight the require d letter and press the Enter button. The descrip tion can be u p to 15 chara cters. In this example we are calling the track F AIRGROUND, so the first l etter is F .
34 After a few seconds the updated T r ack List will appear w i th the new description in place. Press the Menu button to exit the Edit T itle mode and return to the Playback Display Editing a Title Icon Now using the s ame example we w ill change the Icon of the second track.
35 Use the Control Buttons to find the imag e you would like to use as the Icon. Y ou can use picture search forw ard reverse, play , pause etc. Once you have found the image press the Icon button.
36 Color Correction If the image from the video source is in need of adjustment the MP 6000 has a built in video p rocessor , it can adjust the Brig htness, Contrast, Color Satur ation and T int (NTSC only). These settings are only available with analogue video signals, YUV , S-Video and Composite Video.
37 T o access other options press the Do wn Arrow button to select Contrast, Color and T in t (NTSC only) The procedure for setting Contrast, Color and Tint (NTSC only) is the same as for Brightness.
38 Setting the Vi deo S t andard (P AL/NTSC) The MP 6000 can be set to P AL or NTSC. Generally if the unit is bought it Europe it will be set to P AL as a default, whereas if it is bought in the U.S. or ASIA it will be set to NTSC as a default. If you want to switch from one standard to another here’s what to do.
39 Dip Switch 1 switches the MP 6000 between simple GPI control an d RS 232 control. If Dip Switch 1 is Off (up) the MP 6000 responds to GPI, if it is On (do wn) then it responds to RS 232.
40 The GPI Function can be set to either control Play & Pause or Record & Pause . T o select the GPI Functio n you require, start with the LCD Display showing the General Display Press the Menu button to call up the Menu Options Use the Down Arrow butto n to navigate to 2.
41 After a few seconds the message will change to READING , and after a few more seconds it will return to the general display . On the TV monitor you w ill see this message With OK highlighte d press.
42 Press the Erase button an d the Erase menu will appear . Press the Right Arrow button to highlight CONFIRM Press the Enter butto n to confirm and the LCD Displa y will show the ERASE message On the.
43 At the bottom o f the list we can see the re is 88% of fr ee space available on the disc, and ab ove that we can see title eight. Press the Menu button to call up the Edit menu on the LCD display P.
44 Once completed you w ill see that eight has been remov ed and the free space on the disc has increased. Y ou can remove further tracks by following the same pr ocedure.
45 Now use the Down Arrow button to navigate down to Factory Reset Press the Right Ar row button to h ighlight S tart Press the Enter butt on to confirm Press the Left Arrow button to highlight Y es Press the Enter butt on to confirm After a few seconds the MP 6000 will re-boot it self.
46 Use the Up, Down Lef t and Right Arrow buttons to navigate an d set the date and time Then use the Right Arrow butto n to highlight save, and press the Enter button to confirm. The screen will go black f o r a few seconds and then the MP 6000 is ready to go.
