The cables su pplied with your con tr oller kit ha ve a blue connecto r at one end and a bla ck connector at the other end. Plug the blue connector into the controller and the black co nnector int o the hard driv e.
2-3 Installing Y o ur Controller W ide devices allow data to be tra nsferr ed at twice the rate of Narr ow devices. The W ide bus is backward compatible with Narrow devices, allowin g both types o f SCSI devices to be used with the same controller . The Narrow interfa ce is still used with some SCSI devices, such as tape and CD drives.

Y ou can use SMOR or the Configure Host Bus Adapt er win dow in Storag e Manag er to ch ange th e cont roller SCSI I D. Note: Ch anging th e contro ller ID is not recommended .
2-5 Installing Y o ur Controller By using a 68-pin to 50-pin SCSI cable adapter , a Narrow device can be attached to a W ide cable along with W ide devices. However , the device at the end o f the cable must be a W ide device so that all SCSI signals ar e terminated.

2-7 Installing Y o ur Controller From the si de view shown below , you can see that the module is placed into the socket at an angle. Then, pr es s the m odule into place until the meta l clips click into th e sides of th e modu le and holds it securely .

2-11 Installing Y o ur Controller 3 If the boot device will be a n array , create that array now . Y ou can create or modify array groups later . 4 Exit SMOR. The system begin s building array s that you created or modified. Fo r lar ge arrays, t his process may take s everal ho urs.

3-17 Installing the Driver 5 If W indows did not discover the devices duri ng startup, o pen the Device Manager . Look for a PCI car d entry in the Other Devices categ ory . There may be multiple entries if you have multiple Adaptec RAID cont r ollers installed.

It should n ow show a n Adaptec I 2 O RAID Host Ad apter in the SCSI and RAID Con tr ollers section.
