The cables supplied with your con tr oller ki t have a blue con nector at one end and a black connector at the other end. Plug the blue connector into the controller and the black co nnector int o the hard driv e.
2-3 Installing Y our Controller L VD and S E D e vice s Attaching a single-ended ( SE) SCSI device to an L VD bus causes the bus to slow down to Ultra SCSI s peed (20 MHz) f or all devices. Note: Adaptec RA ID controllers cannot be used wi th older SCSI 5-V dif fer ential (DE) devices.

2-5 Installing Y our Controller The follow ing figure shows various S CSI cabling examples. T erminate your SCSI devices as shown in the examples, ensuring that the devices at the ends of the cables ar e terminated and the devices in the middle ar e not terminated.

The amount of cache r epo rted is al ways 16 MB less than what you a ctually insta lled.
2-10 Adaptec RA ID Installation Guide Zero Channel RAID Contr ollers (2000 S, 2005S) The Adap tec RAID con tro llers 2000S a nd 2005S h ave unique installation r equiremen ts. These contro llers ar e Zer o Channel RAID (ZCR) car ds an d work with the motherboa rd’s em bedded Adaptec SCSI chip to pro vide advanced RAID functionality .

3-5 Installing the Driver Upgrad ing Windows NT t o Windows 200 0 In this scena rio, yo u already have an A daptec RAID co ntroller installed in your system. How ever , because you are upgrad ing to a new operating system, you need to put the corr ect driver into the new operating system.

3-7 Installing the Driver Instal ling the Dr iver in a New System with Only One Controller In this sc enario, you are instal ling an Adaptec RAID controller and W indows NT 4.0 in a new system that does not hav e othe r hardwa r e that req uires the use of W i ndows NT mass storage detection.

3-9 Installing the Driver 7 Y ou ar e prompted to either press S to specify additional controllers or press Enter to contin ue W indows NT instal lation witho ut specifying additio nal controllers. Press S to Sp ecify Additi onal Devices . Select Other , then ins ert the driver disk you crea ted in St ep 1 .

Then s elect the Driv ers tab and click Add . 4 Insert the driver disk you created in Step 1 and then click Have Disk . 5 Sel ec t Adaptec I 2 O RAI D Ho st A dapte r Dr iver for NT 4 .
3-11 Installing the Driver 4 Insert the driver disk you cr eated in Ste p 1 and t hen click Have Disk . 5 Select Adap tec I 2 O RAID Host Adapt er Driver for NT 4.0 . 6 After the driver is loaded, shut down the sy stem. 7 Install and configure the Adaptec RAID contr oller and har d drives according to the in structions in Chapter 2 .
3-12 Adaptec RA ID Installation Guide Creating the Driver Disk Each of the procedur es for installing the driver in each case r equires a slightly diff erent procedur e. Ho wever , all the pr ocedures r equire you to cr eate a driver disk. T o cr eate the driver disk 1 Insert t he Adaptec RAI D Installation CD in your drive.
3-13 Installing the Driver Instal ling the Dr iver in a Ne w Wind ows 98/Me Syste m In this scena rio, you doin g a full insta llation on on e disk drive or array group using a n Adaptec RAID con tr oller in a new system.

3-16 Adaptec RA ID Installation Guide 14 Open the Device Ma nager . Look f or a PCI C ard entry under the Other Devices catego ry . There may be multipl e entries if you have multiple A daptec RAID co ntrollers installed. There may also be an en try called PCI M emory Con troller .
3-17 Installing the Driver 22 If you syst em contains mult iple Adaptec RAID con tr ollers, r epeat Steps 14 through 21 for each con troller . The system shoul d ask you to restart when this a ction is comple ted. 23 The Device Ma nager shou ld now sh ow an Adaptec I 2 O RAI D Host Adapte r in the SCSI a nd RAID Contr ollers section.

If the Device Manag er displa ys PCI Car d with a yello w exclamati on mark in the Othe r Devices li st, you might need a patch for your motherboard chips et to r ecogni ze multifunctio n bridge controllers.
3-19 Installing the Driver Upgr adin g Win dows 95 t o Win dows 98/ Me (Up gra de V e rsion) If you ar e upgrading the system from W indows 95 to W indows 98/Me in an existing system that alr eady has a function ing Adaptec RA ID controller , no furth er configurati on is necessary .
