Chapter 1 Introduction 9 Operation Panel This section describes the keys on the operat ion panel, and their functi ons and locations. [ON/OFF] key Turns the machine ON and OFF. Befo re turning ON the machine, make sure the scan unit is closed. When turning ON and OFF, keep the key pressed for at least one second.

Chapter 2 Document Handling 13 Chapter 2 Document Handling X Document Requirements The documents you load on the plat en glass for copying or scanning must meet these requirements: NOTE • Multi-Scan is a function for sc anning multiple docu ments (small-size d ocuments) at a time.
14 Document Handling Chapter 2 X Loading Documents To copy or scan a document, set it on the platen glass. NOTE • Make sure any glue, ink, or co rrection fluid on the document is completely dry before lo ading. • Make sure no staples or clips are attached to the document be fore loading.

20 Paper Handl ing Chapter 3 General Paper Guidelines Paper Types You Cannot Use • Do not use: – Folded, creased, curled , or wrinkled paper – Envelopes with double flaps, or with pressure seals – Moist p aper – Paper with hol es (e.g. punched holes) – Very thin paper (less th an 17 lb.
Chapter 3 Paper Handling 21 X Setting The Paper Thickness Lever The paper thickness lever adjusts the gap between th e print head and the paper to accommodate the thickness of various paper type s. Before printing, be sure to set the paper thickness lever.
22 Paper Handl ing Chapter 3 X Setting The Paper Size And Type For copying or photo printing (MP3 70), on the operation panel, you need to set the size and type of paper loaded in the m ulti-purpose tray . NOTE • For copying, specify the paper si ze as described in Chapter 4.
Chapter 3 Paper Handling 23 Loading Envelopes Follow this procedure: 1 Set the paper thic kness lever to the ri ght. NOTE • For details on setting the paper thickness lever, see page 21. 2 Open the multi- purpose tray, t hen pull out the t ray extension .
24 Paper Handl ing Chapter 3 4 Place the stack of envelopes (pr int side up) in the multi-pur pose tray , and pinch the paper gu ide and adjust it to the left side of the stack . • Load the envelopes in the multi-purpose tray with the short side down.
Chapter 4 Copying 25 Chapter 4 Cop ying X Documents You Can Copy For information on th e types of documents yo u can copy, their requirements, an d details on loadin g them, see Chapter 2. X Setting The Paper Size And Type For copying, on the operation panel, you need to set the size and type of paper loaded in the multi-purpose t ray.
26 Copying Chapter 4 X Making Copies When making color or black & white copies, you can adjust the print resolution and d ensity. You can also change reduction or enlargement setting s. IMPORTANT • After turning the mac hine ON, or after recover ing from Power Save mode (see page 88), the image may not be corr ectly read by the machine.
Chapter 4 Copying 27 X Adjusting Image Quality (Resolution) You can adjust the image quality accord ing to the document to be copied. Follow this procedure: 5 Press [Color] for color copying, or [Black] for black & whit e copying. • The machine starts copying.
28 Copying Chapter 4 X Adjusting Exposure (Density) Exposure (density) is the degr ee of difference between light and dark. Increasing the exposure setting further blackens dark areas and whitens bright areas. Whereas decreasing the exposure setting reduces the difference betw een bright and dark areas.
Chapter 4 Copying 29 Using Custom Copy Ratios In addition to making reductio n and enlargement decisions usin g preset copy ratios, you can make reduction and enlargement decisi ons in custom 1% increments. Follow this procedure: 4 Use [ W ] or [ X ] to select t he copy rati o.
30 Copying Chapter 4 Copying An Image To Fit The Page If the document to be copied is la rger or smaller than the specified paper si ze, you can automatically reduce or enlarge the image to fit the size of the pap er you are printing on . NOTE • Some document size s may not be correctly detected.
Chapter 4 Copying 31 Copying Two Pages To Fit Onto A Single Page This feature enables you to copy two docu ments onto a single sheet of paper, by reducing and rotating each image 90 degrees. NOTE • If < MEMORY FULL > appears on the LCD when copyi ng, set the image quality to < NORMAL > and try copying again.
32 Copying Chapter 4 Borderless Copying This feature enables you to copy color images so that they fill the entire page without borders. NOTE • You can use this feature only wh en the paper type is set to < GLOSSY >, < HIGH RE S. >, < PHOTO PRO >, < PHOTO PLUS >, or < OTHER >.
Chapter 4 Copying 33 Follow this procedure: 1 Load the document on th e platen glass. 2 Press [COPY]. 3 Use [ W ] or [ X ] to select t he numb er of copies (max. 99 copies). NOTE • For the number of sheets of paper you can load at a time in the multi-purpose tray, see page 15.
34 Copying Chapter 4 Repeating An Im age On A Page This feature enables you to copy an image mu ltiple times onto a single page. You can set the machine to automatically select the number of times it repeats th e image, or you can specify the number.
Chapter 4 Copying 35 8 Use [ W ] or [ X ] to select < AUTO > or < MANUAL >. z If you select < AUTO >: 1. Press [Set]. 2. Go to step 9. z If you select < MANUAL >: 1. Decide the number of times you want to c opy the image. • You can select a maximum of four vertic al repeats and four horizontal repeats.
36 Copying Chapter 4 Creating A Mirror Image This feature enables you to make a mirror copy of a document. Use this feature when copying onto T-shirt transfers so that the image is oriented corr ectly when ironed onto fabric. NOTE • Use T-shirt transfers when the image w ill be ironed onto T-shirts.
Chapter 4 Copying 37 Shrinking An image To Fit The Page If the image to be copied is la rger than the paper, this featur e will automatically reduce the image to fit the paper size. Follow this procedure: 1 Load the document on th e platen glass. 2 Press [COPY].
38 Photo Printing From A Memo ry Card (MP370) Chapter 5 Chapter 5 Photo Printing Fr om A Memor y Car d (MP370) There are several ways you can print photos di rectly from a memory card, without using a computer. In particular, if you use a Photo Inde x Sheet, you can easily specify photographs and set printing options.

Chapter 5 Photo Printing From A Me mory Card (M P370) 41 Removing A Memory Card Follow this procedure: CAUTION • If an error occurs duri ng printing from the memo ry card (e.g. paper run s out), do not remove the memory card or Compact Flash card adapter containing a memory card as this may damage the data on the memory card.
42 Photo Printing From A Memo ry Card (MP370) Chapter 5 X Convenient Printing Functions You can select prin t setting opti ons, such as printing photographs witho ut borders and prin ting blues and greens in landscape photographs brighter.
Chapter 5 Photo Printing From A Me mory Card (M P370) 43 Setting Vivid Photo Printing Enabling this setting will make photograp hs appear more vibrant, especially blues and greens. I t is also effective for photographs that we re not taken with the correct exposure.

Chapter 5 Photo Printing From A Me mory Card (M P370) 45 X Printing By Using The Photo Index Sheet With the MP370, yo u can easily print photo graphs by filling in the appropriate circl es on a Photo Index Sheet to select print options and phot ographs you want to print.

48 Photo Printing From A Memo ry Card (MP370) Chapter 5 10 Move the pa per thickness lever to the left . 11 Load the Photo Index Sheet on the platen glass. • When loading the Photo Inde x Sheet, place the front side down, and align the upper left corner of the sheet with the a lignment mark on the lower righ t corner of the platen glass.
Chapter 5 Photo Printing From A Me mory Card (M P370) 49 X Printing All Images This printing method creates individual pri nts of all phot ographs stored on a m emory card. Follow this procedure: 1 Turn ON the machin e, and load th e co rrect paper in the multi-purpose tray.

Chapter 5 Photo Printing From A Me mory Card (M P370) 51 X Index Printing With the MP370, you can print an index to check all the image dat a on the memory card, and select the settings for individual im ages and print them according to your preferen ce.

54 Photo Printing From A Memo ry Card (MP370) Chapter 5 Printing A Single Image This printing method prints a specified single photograph from a memo ry card. In order to select the photograph you want to print, you will need to print the index and note the im age number assigned to the photograph.

56 Photo Printing From A Memo ry Card (MP370) Chapter 5 Printing A Range Of Images This printing method prints a range of photographs in sequence on a memory card. In order to select the photographs to print, first pri nt the index and note the image numbers assi gned to them.

Chapter 5 Photo Printing From A Me mory Card (M P370) 59 DPOF (Digit al Print O rder Format) P rinting This printing method prints photographs according to the DPOF settings specified on your digital camera. NOTE • For information on how to set the DPOF functions , see the manual supplied w ith your digital camera.
60 Photo Printing Di rectly From A Digital Camera (MP370) Chapter 6 Chapter 6 Photo Printing Directl y Fr om A Digital Camera (MP370) Connecting a PictBridge compatible or Canon B ubble Jet Direct compatible digital camera or digital video camcorder to t he MP370 enables you to print capt ured images directly with out using a computer.
Chapter 6 Photo Pr inting Directly From A Digital Camera (MP370) 61 X Paper Types For A Digital Camera You can use th e following genuine Canon paper: IMPORTANT • When loading the paper in the multi-purpose tr ay, load it with the glossy side facing up.
62 Photo Printing Di rectly From A Digital Camera (MP370) Chapter 6 X Printing Directly From A Digital Camera This section describes how to connect a dig ital camera to the mach ine and how to print photogr aphs. IMPORTANT • While using the machine, do not discon nect and connect th e USB cable.

Chapter 7 Becoming Familiar With The Software 65 z If using the machine with USB 2.0 Hi-Speed: This machine is equipped with a USB 2.0 Hi-S peed interface. Hi-Speed USB mode greatly increases data-transfer rates. Howeve r, to use this mode, you must conn ect it to a computer equipped with a USB 2.
66 Becoming Familiar With The Software Chapter 7 User authority when using Microsoft Windows 2000/XP When installing the software in Windows 2000, you m ust log on as Administrator or have Administrator privileges. When in stalling the software in Windows XP, you must log on as Administrator.
Chapter 7 Becoming Familiar With The Software 67 X Uninstalling, Reinstalling The Software If you do not need the MP Toolbox or MP Drivers an y longer, or if they ar e not installed correctly, uninstall them. When uninstalling the software from Wind ows 2000, you must log on as Administ rator or have Administrator privileges.

70 Printing From Your Computer Chapter 8 X Printing Documents Installing the MP Drivers enables you to print from application software su pporting a print function. The print procedure varies slightly depe nding on the application software . The basic print procedure is explained here.

Chapter 9 Scanning 73 Chapter 9 Scanning PC X About Scanning Images You can scan images from the m achine to a computer, and save th em in JPEG, TIFF, or Bitmap format. And you can process that data by using th e supplied application soft ware to create original images.
74 Scanning Chapter 9 Scanning Using The MP Toolbox MP Toolbox contains buttons fo r scanning documents to you r computer and processing and saving them. For details on using the MP Toolbox, see Software Guide , located on yo ur Setup CD-ROM. Follow this procedure: 1 Load the document on th e platen glass .

Chapter 1 0 Maintenanc e 77 Chapter 10 Maintenance X Replacing Ink Tanks Low Ink Warning When ink is running low, the LCD will display < BLACK INK LOW >, < COLOR INK LOW >, or < BLACK/COLOR INK LOW > warning you to have a new ink tank ready before the in k runs out.
78 Maintenanc e Chapter 1 0 • Do not touch printouts with wet hands or spill liquids on them as the ink may run. • Replace ink tanks qu ickly. Once in stalled, do no t remove it from the mach ine and leave out in the open. Doing so may cause the ink tank not to function when reinst alled in the machine.
Chapter 1 0 Maintenanc e 79 4 Hold the empty ink ta nk’s tab and pull forward to relea se. Lift out the i nk tank. CAUTION • Do not remove the print head from the machine. • Remove one ink tank at a time. • Do not touch the round shaft , transparent film , film cable , ink absorber (sponge part) , or any metal parts.
80 Maintenanc e Chapter 1 0 Resetting The Ink Counter The ink counter keeps track of how much ink is left in the ink tanks, enabling the machine to warn you when ink is running low. Thus, reset the ink counter when replacing ink tanks. Also you can check the current ink level of the ink tanks at any time.
Chapter 1 0 Maintenanc e 81 Checking The Ink level If you reset the ink counter when you installed/replaced the ink tanks, you can check the current ink level of the ink tanks at any t ime. To check the current ink level of the ink ta nks, press [COPY], [SCAN], or [PHOTO PRINT].
82 Maintenanc e Chapter 1 0 X Maintaining The Print Head You can print a nozzle check patter n to check w hether each print head is opera ting properly, and then clean or align the print head.
Chapter 1 0 Maintenanc e 83 Printing The Nozz le Check Pattern The nozzle check pattern shows whether the print head is operating properly. NOTE • You can also pr int the nozzle che c k pattern from your computer.
84 Maintenanc e Chapter 1 0 Confirming The No zzle Check Pattern This section describes how to confirm the nozzle check pattern and print head positi on pattern. NOTE • If the ink level is low, the nozz le ch eck pattern is not printed correctly. If the ink level is low, replace the relevant ink tank.
Chapter 1 0 Maintenanc e 85 Cleaning The Print Head If the printed nozzle check pattern is broken, missi ng, or a specific color is not printed, clean the print head. NOTE • Cleaning the print head consu mes a small amount of ink. Cleaning too often reduces the amount of ink in the ink tanks.
86 Maintenanc e Chapter 1 0 Aligning The Print Head If you have printed the nozzle check pattern (see pa ge 83) and determined th at the print head needs aligning, align it from the operati on panel. NOTE • You can also align the paper from your computer.
Chapter 1 0 Maintenanc e 87 Using The Calibration Function If the color tone of copies or scans of photos differs from that of the original, you can use the calibration function to adj ust the color tone printed. Follow this procedure: 9 Press [Set]. 10 Repeat steps 8 and 9 for col umns B to K.
88 Maintenanc e Chapter 1 0 Setting The Power Save Timer Power Save mode i s the mode in w hich the scanning lamp is shut off. You can specify the length of time until the machine ent ers the Power Save mode by using the Power Save Timer setting.

If you have not followed the installation procedure correctly, reinstall the software.
Chapter 11 Troubleshooti ng 91 z Uninstallation of the MP Driver s takes too long (Windows XP). z Uninstallation was completed, but the [Can on] folder remains in the [Start] menu. z The message <Version c onflict> appear s on your computer (Windows 98).
92 Troubles hooting Chapter 11 Paper Is J ammed X Removing Jammed Paper If < CLEAR PAPER JAM > is displayed o n the LCD, follow th is procedure to clear the paper jam.
Chapter 11 Troubleshooti ng 93 If There Are Repeated Paper Jams Paper jams can occur repeatedly when the roller is not operating correctly, or paper is not loaded correctly. Paying attention to the fo llowing po ints, reload the paper or clean the roller.
94 Troubles hooting Chapter 11 No P o wer X Nothing Displays On The LC D (There Is No Power) When you connect the power cord to the mach ine and wall outlet, and press [ON/OFF], the machine powers ON and a message is displayed on the LCD. While the [Alarm] lamp flashes, th e machine is initializing and you will not be able to use it.
