Under no circumstances use non- rechar geable batteries. Only use NiMH rechar geable batteries with a capacity of 600mAh or higher . Using inappropriate batt eries will invalidate your guarant ee and may damage the telephone.

Navigating the menus Y our B T Fr ees tyle 250 handset feat ures an easy to use menu system. Have a look at the menu map on the next page. When the handset is switched on and in standby: 1. Press to open the main menu and select the function you want by pressing the or button.

U sing the phone 17 B T Fr ees tyle 250 – Issue 02 Ed 1 – 02.01.07 – 7971 Make a call 1. Press . Enter the telephone number and the number is dialled. Prepar ator y dialling U se prepar ator y dialling to see and check the number on the display bef or e you dial out.
The earpiece volume can only be changed when you are on a call. Earpiece volume During a call: T o increase the volume Press . T o decrease the volume Press . Handsfree Hands free lets you talk to your caller without holding the handset. It also enables other people in the r oom t o lis ten to your conversation over the loudspeak er .
Answer a call in handsfree When the phone rings: 1. Press and the call is transf erred to the loudspeak er . Swit ch to handsfree during a call During a call: 1. Press . The call is transf erred to the loudspeak er . 2. Press to toggle between Handsfree and the handset.
If a redial number is stor ed in the Directory , the caller’ s name will be displayed instead of the number . If there ar e no redial numbers stored, Empty will be displayed. If you dial the same number on more than one occasion, only the most recent call details will be stor ed, any previous occurr ence will be deleted.
T o delete a number from the r edial lis t 1. Press , to open the main menu. 2. Press or until the display shows Redial , press t o display the redial list. 3. Press or to display the number you want and press to select. 4. Press or to display Delete entry and pr ess to select.
Y ou cannot answer the ringing as you would a call. St opping the ring at a handset s tops the ring at that handset only . When the keypad is lock ed incoming calls can still be answered. Once the call has ended, the keypad lock is r e- activated. IMPORT ANT Emergency calls CAN be made when the keypad lock is on.
Making internal calls If you purchased a B T Fr eestyle 250 multi-pack, you can make internal calls between handsets. 1. Press then or until the display shows Internal . 2. Press and enter the number of the handset you want to call. The other handset will ring and display your handset number t o let the handset user know who is calling.
T o put an ex ternal call on hold during a confer ence, press Int/Ext call will be displayed. Pr ess t o confirm. T o take the external caller off hold, press . Conference will be displayed, press t o confirm. Menu Menu Menu Menu T ransferring calls If using a B T Freestyle 250 multi-pack, you can tr ans fer an external call to the other handset.
4. Press , the display shows Conference . Press t o confirm. The external call, and the two internal handsets are all connected to the conf erence. 5. Any caller can leave the confer ence by pressing . S wit ching a handset off 1. Pr ess then or until the display shows Switch off .
Dir ector y 26 B T Fr ees tyle 250 – Issue 02 Ed 1 – 02.01.07 – 7971 If there ar e no s tored entries, Empty will be displayed. If you tr y to store a new entry and the directory is full, you will hear an error tone and Full will be displayed. Pr ess to delet e an incorrect digit.
Dial/view a number 1. Press to open the dir ector y . The first entr y is displayed. 2. Press or to scroll thr ough the directory to the entr y you want. Or , sear ch alphabetically , using the keypad t o enter the firs t letter of the name you want, then scr oll to the exact entr y using the and buttons.
See page 26 for help with entering names. 5. The name is displayed followed by a flashing cursor . Edit the name using to delete incorr ect characters and enter new ones using the keypad, then pr ess to save. 6. Saved is displayed. Press and hold to r eturn to standby mode.
SMS text messages 29 B T Fr ees tyle 250 – Issue 02 Ed 1 – 02.01.07 – 7971 W elcome to the BT SMS Service on your BT F reestyle 250. The ser vice is provided by B T . Y our B T Fr ees tyle 250 can send and receive SMS messages from participating mobile networks and compatible landline telephones in the UK.
Y our B T Fr ees tyle 250 can only hold ten messages, in the Inbox, Outbo x or a combination of both. When full the display will show SMS mem. full. No more messages can be received until you delet e old messages, see Delete a text message or Delete a list (page 32).
R eceiving and reading text messages When you receive new t ex t messages, you will hear the message aler t beep and the display will show New SMS msg . 1. Press , SMS messages will be displayed, press . 2. Scroll to Inbox and press . 3. Scroll or , if requir ed, to the message you want to read firs t and pr ess .
Delete a text message 1. Press , SMS messages will be displayed, press . 2. Scroll to Inbox or Outbox and press . 3. Scroll or to the message you want to delete and press . 4. Scroll t o Delete entry and pr ess . 5. Press to confirm or to cancel. Delet ea list 1.

Y our B T F reestyle 250 is not GAP compatible and registration is theref ore generally limited t o other BT F reestyle 250 or 250 handsets. The R egis tr ation and De-registration menu's ar e ther ef ore "hidden" and can only be accessed after entering the code .
6. The handset will temporarily display Registered then will display Handset and will be automatically assigned the next handset number . De-registering a handset Y ou can de-r egis ter any handset from a base using any of the handsets that ar e r egistered to it.

T one is the default setting for the UK. Y ou should only have to change this if connected to a switchboar d that requir es Pulse dialling. 4. Enter the existing PIN code using the keypad and pr ess . New PIN is displayed. 5. Enter a new 4 digit PIN code using the keypad and pr ess .

PBX access If your switchboar d requires a pause after the access code for an outside line, you can progr am your BT F reestyle 250 to automatically enter the pause. All the numbers in your dir ector y or enter ed into the keypad will need to pr efixed with the access code, e.

Oper ating the answering machine from the base Swit ch on/off 1. Press . Pla ying messages 1. Press . During playback: – press once t o repeat current message, twice to play pr evious message. – pr ess t o play nex t message. – press t o delete current message.
Oper ating the answering machine from the handset Y ou can use any r egis tered B T Freestyle 250 handset to swit ch your answering machine on and off , hear your messages and adjust the answering machine settings. Swit ch on/off 1. Press scr oll t o Ans.
Answer & R ecord This invites your caller to leave a message. The pre-r ecorded message is, “Hello, your call cannot be tak en at the moment, so please leave your message af ter the tone”. Answer Only This does not allow your caller t o leave a message.
Play out going message If the answering machine is set to Answer Only you will hear the Answer Only message. Similarly if Answer & Recor d is on you will hear the Answer & Recor d message. 1. Press scr oll to Ans. machine menu and press . 2. Scroll or to Ans.
Set answer mode Set your machine to Answer & R ecord or Answer Only . 1. Press scr oll to Ans. machine menu and press . 2. Scroll or to Ans. settings and press . 3. **Listen** will be displayed and you will be prompt ed to ent er to hear the menu options.
Answer delay Answer delay sets the number of rings befor e your BT Fr eestyle 250 answering machine picks up a call. The default setting is 6 rings. Y ou can select an answer delay of 2, 4, 6, 8 rings or Time Saver . Time Saver can save you the cos t of a call when you want to ring in t o find out if you have new messages.
Playing messages During playback, you can repeat, delet e and skip back to previous messages or f or ward to the next message. 1. Press scr oll to Ans. machine menu and press . 2. Play message is highlighted, pr ess . Y our messages are played and details of each message are displayed.
Delete all old messages Y ou can only delete messages that have been played. Any new , unplayed, messages will not be deleted 1. Press scr oll to Ans. machine menu and press . 2. Scroll or to Del. all old and press . 3. Press t o confirm. 4. Press to r eturn to standby .
Memor y full If a caller is leaving a message when the memor y becomes full your machine will announce, “Memor y full thank you for calling” and hang up. The machine will also automatically set to Answer Only , the base indicator will flash F and the handset display will show Ans.
