4 I nt r oduct io n Please read these instr uctions carefully before use and keep this user guide for future refer ence. For comprehensive instr uctions, see your main Diverse user guide. Building up a phone system Y ou can add fur ther handsets to build up a comprehensive and easy-to-use cordless telephone system.
5 W ARNING 1 Use only approved nickel-cadmium (NiCad) rechar geable batteries. Never use any other batteries, or conventional alkaline batteries. Using such batteries could destroy the battery casing, which is dangerous. Recommended batteries should have a power rating of 600m Ah 1.
6 W ARNING cont. placed too close. It is recommended you place your Diverse handset at least one metre away from such appliances to avoid any risk of inter ference. 7 If you wear a hearing aid, please note that the Diverse works by sending radio signals between the base station and handset.
7 Approved r echargeable batteries Use only the rechargeable batter y types listed below and do not mix two types in the same handset: Batteries can be obtained from the Diverse Helpline on 0345 908070 or your local BT shop. Nickel-cadmium Saft RC6 Panasonic P-60 AA/1P Philips R6 NC-P UCAR RC6 DAIMON ACCU 1000 V ar ta Accu Plus Ni-Cd 1.
8 Important When replacing batteries always use good quality nickel cadmium (NiCad) rechargeable AA types with at least 600mAh capacity in order to achieve the specified operating time. Never use other batteries or conventional alkaline batteries. They could result in a shor t circuit or destr oy the batter y casing.
9 3 Cha r g e t h e ha nds et b att er i es fo r at le ast 1 6 h ou rs Place the handset on the base station or charging unit (available separately). The handset can be charged face up or down. Make sure that the contacts on the bottom end of the handset are touching both charging contacts.

13 Regist er i n g a ne w Div ers e 20 0 0 Add it io nal H a nds et wit h t h e b as e s t at io n It is essential that you register your handset with your Diverse base station for it to work. The following are basic instr uctions on how to do this, but these may dif fer if you have a Diverse 2-Line or Diverse ISDN.
14 T o register your new handset The handset must be switched OFF . At t h e b as e st at ion : • Press and hold down the GREY paging button until you hear beep (after about 10 seconds). At t h e ha nds et: • Press and hold down the 1 button together with the PWR button, until the display shows 1– .
15 T o remove a handset r egistered at the base station • Press the STO button. • Press the # button. • Press 7 then 2 . • Enter the system code (standard setting 0000 ). Display shows all handsets registered at the base. • Enter the number of the handset to be removed.
16 Usi n g t h e Div ers e 20 0 0 Add it io nal H a n ds et O n/Off a nd Pr ot e ct ed m odes The handset can be operated in one of three dif fer ent modes. OFF Phone calls can not be made and the handset does not respond to incoming calls. • To switch ON, press and hold down the PWR button until the display is activated.
17 PROTECTED This setting stops you accidentally operating the handset’s keypad when car r ying it around. Y ou can still receive incoming calls but you can not make calls.
18 M ak i n g a nd r e c eivi n g c al ls T o make an external call W ith the handset switched ON: • Press the PHONE button. Y ou hear the dial tone. • Dial the number you want. The phone calls the number and the display shows the number you have dialled.
19 T o receive an external call When the phone rings the display flashes: EXT . • Press the PHONE button on the handset and speak. Or • If the handset is on the base station or charger , simply lift it up and speak. Y ou do not need to pr ess any buttons.
20 I n ter com ca ll s T o make an internal intercom call to another handset • Press the INT button. Display shows your handset number . • Enter the number of the handset you want to call.
21 T o make an internal call to all handsets Y ou can call all handsets r egistered to the base station. • Press the INT button. Display shows your handset number . • Press the ✱ button. Display shows all handsets registered. All handsets will ring.
22 Tr a n sf e r r i ng a nd holding ca ll s Y ou can transfer an exter nal call to another handset, or put the call on hold while you talk to another handset. T o transfer an external call between handsets While you are on an exter nal call: • Press the INT button.
23 U s i ng t he memo r y to s tor e a nd d ial nu mb ers Y our Diverse 2000 Additional Handset can store 10 phone numbers, each up to 22 digits long, which can then be speed dialled. Stored numbers can include settings made with the RCL , ✱ and # buttons (ie, to store special ser vice or Select Ser vices numbers that use symbols for access).

25 8 TUV STO 1 8 TUV STO 0 O pt io nal s ett i n gs Y ou can adjust the ringer and handset volumes on your Diverse 2000 Additional Handset. Y ou ar e also able to prevent unauthorised use of your handset and accidental changes to its settings.
26 T o change the handset PIN Changing your PIN (personal identification number) prevents unauthorised persons from making alterations to settings on your handset. Y our PIN must 4 digits long. If you change your PIN, keep a recor d of it in the box provided on the inside front cover of this user guide.
27 V o l u m e co nt ro ls T o change the handset volume The handset volume can be set at three dif ferent levels. The standar d setting is 1. • Press the STO button. • Press 0 . • Press 1 , 2 or 3 on the keypad, to select the volume. • Press the STO button to confir m.
28 Adva nc ed f eat u r es There are fur ther options which you may wish set on your handset, including additional advisor y war ning beeps. Please refer to your Diverse base station user guide for instr uctions on how to set these features.
29 O p er at i n g wit h a dd it io nal b as e st at io ns It is possible to use your Diverse 2000 Additional Handset as par t of a much larger phone system with the addition of up to 3 extra base stations.
30 Ho w t o s et u p mult i ple b as e st at ions a nd h a nds et s T o register additional Diverse 2000 handsets at more than one base station Y ou can use up to six handsets on each Diverse base station and up to four base stations with your Diverse handset.
31 At t h e b as e st at ion : • Press and hold down the GREY paging button until you hear the beeps (after about 1 0 seconds). At t h e ha nds et: • Press and hold down the 2 button (or 3 or 4 ), to allocate a number to the new base station.
32 T o set/clear the base station number display from a handset The standard setting is for the handset not to show the number of the base station to which it is registered. If your handset is connected to more than one base we recommend that you activate this display .
33 T o set your handset for automatic base selection If you are moving around, and likely to lose contact with your base station, your handset can be set to automatically switch to the best available base station. This means that if you are in an area where the signals of two base stations overlap, your handset will select the strongest signal.
34 T o set your handset for manual base selection (with an automatic search default) This setting tells your handset to search for a specific base signal for 30 seconds. If the signal cannot be found, the handset rever ts to automatic selection of the base with the best signal.
35 M a i nt e na nc e General cleaning Simply clean the handset and base station with a damp cloth (not wet) or antistatic wipe. Never use a dr y cloth as this may cause a static shock.
36 He l p Y our Diverse 2000 Additional Handset has been designed for ease of use. If you do experience any dif ficulties, please refer to the following section before contacting the Diverse Helpline on 0345 908070 .
37 Replacing handset batteries After a time, you may find that the handset batteries are r unning out of charge more quickly . This is a standar d sign of wear and the batteries will need replacing with approved batteries. Recommended batteries should have a power rating of 600m Ah 1.

39 Is the handset out of range? To check this press the PHONE button whilst symbol is flashing, you will hear four shor t beeps from the handset. The base station or handset does not ring The ringer volume may be set too low , or switched of f at the base station.

41 Ap p r oval C on n e c ti o n to the B T teleph o n e netw or k Y our Diverse 2000 Additional Handset is fully approved for connection to the BT network provided it is used according the the instr uctions in this guide. The telephone lines must provide Loop Disconnect (Pulse) or Multi-frequency (Touch T one) dialline capabilities.
42 T ec h ni ca l i n for ma t i on Environment Y our Diverse 2000 Additional Handset should be kept fr e e o f dust, moistur e, high temperature, vibration and should not be exposed to direct sunlight. Do not stand it on carpets or other sur faces which generate fibres or place it in locations which prevent the free flow of air over its sur faces.
