Getting star ted 6 WARNING Do not place your BT Fr eestyle 310 in the bathroom or other humid areas. Handset range The BT F reestyle 310 has a range of up t o 300 metres outdoors when there is a clear line of sight between the base and handset. Any obstruction between the base and handset will reduce the r ange significantly .
2. Batteries will come inser ted in the battery compar tment. Pull the plastic tag as instructed to activate the batteries. 3. Place the handset on the base to charge for at least 16 hours. When the handset is fully charged, the battery icon on the display shows .
Battery per formance (continued) The charge capacity of rechar geable batteries will reduce with time as they wear out, giving the handset less talk/standby time. Eventually they will need to be replaced. New batteries ar e available from the B T Freestyle 310 Helpdesk on 0800 218 2182*.

U sing the phone 14 Call timer Y our handset will aut omatically time the duration of all external calls. The handset display shows the call duration both during and for a f ew seconds aft er your call. Switch the handset power on/ off 1. Press and hold then press Ye s to confirm.
Earpiece volume During a call, you can adjust the volume of the earpiece. 1. Press or to increase or decr ease the volume. The display shows the volume level. Secrecy During a call, you can switch off the microphone so you can talk to someone nearby without your caller hearing.
If the number is stored in the directory and a name/number match is f ound, the name will be displayed instead. Answer a call handsfree 1. When the phone rings, press to answer your call and put your caller on the loudspeaker . Switch t o handsfree during a call 1.
Copy a number from the redial list to the directory 1. Press . Scroll or through the r edial lis t t o the number you want to copy . 2. Press Opt and scroll to Save to dir . Press OK . 3. Enter the name then press Save . 4. Pr ess to return to standby .
The icon will be displayed while the keypad lock is ON. Keypad lock Y ou can lock the keypad so that it cannot be used accidentally while carr ying it ar ound. T o lock the keypad 1. Press and hold . The display shows Keypad locked . T o unlock the k eypad 1.
U sing the direct or y Y ou can s tor e up to 100 entries in the directory . Each entr y contains a name and number . Names can be up to 15 characters long and numbers up to 24 digits. Stor e an entry 1. Press to open the directory . 2. When s t oring the first entr y: The display shows Empty .
Edit an entry 1. Press and scroll or to the entr y you want to edit. 2. Press Opt , scroll to Edit entry and press OK . 3. Change the number , then press OK . 4. Change the name, then press Save . 5. Press to return to standby . Delete an entry 1. Press and scroll or to the entr y you want to delete.
Calls list 21 IMPORT ANT T o use Caller Display and make the most of the calls list feature you must first subscribe to your network provider’ s Caller Display ser vice. A quarterly fee may be payable. For more details on B T’s Calling Featur es, including BT Caller Display , call BT fr ee on 0800 800 150.

Inf o ser vices 24 The B T Ser vices lis t works in exactly the same way as the main name and number dir ect ory and can store up to 10 entries. If you pr efer , you can delete the pre- stored entries and replace them with your own numbers. See page 19.
Replace pr e-s tor ed number s in the BT Services menu 1. Press (or press Menu then OK ). 2. Scroll to BT services and press OK . 3. Scroll and to the entr y you want to r eplace and press Opt . 4. Display highlights Edit entry . Press OK . 5. Press Del to delete the number and use the k eypad to enter the new number .
B T 118 500 Director y Enquiries/Helpdesk 1. Press (or press Menu then OK ). 2. Scroll to BT services and press OK . 3. Dir enquiries is highlighted. Press to dial B T directory enquiries or scr oll to Helpdesk and pr ess to dial the BT Fr ees tyle Helpdesk.
Call W aiting Call W aiting lets you know if another person is tr ying to contact you while you are on a call. If a second caller rings you will hear a beep in the handset. Call W aiting on/off /check status 1. Press (or press Menu then OK ). 2. Scroll to BT services and press OK .
SMS text messages 28 SMS stands for Short Messaging Ser vice IMPORT ANT Y ou must subscribe to your Network Provider’ s Caller Display ser vice so that you can use SMS text messaging. A quarterly fee may be payable, please contact your network provider for more details.
Send/save text messages 1. Press Menu , scroll lef t to SMS messages menu and press OK. 2. Write message is highlighted. Press OK . 3. The display shows Enter message . Begin typing your message using the keypad. When you have finished pr ess OK . 4. The display shows Number: .

Call the sender’ s phone number 1. Press Menu , scroll lef t to SMS messages menu and press OK. 2. Scroll to Inbox and press OK . 3. Scroll or to the message you want and press Opt . 4. Scroll to Call number and press OK . Save the sender’ s number in the directory 1.
Press to exit the menu and return to standby at any time. to choose from: Send message Press OK to view the phone number , then either OK to send or Del to edit. Edit message Press OK to edit the message and phone number . Delete message Press OK , then Ye s to confirm or No to cancel.
SMS Ser vice Centr e numbers T o send and receive SMS text messages you need the telephone number of your Network’ s SMS Centre. If you accidentally delete the Send or Receive SMS Service Centre numbers you will need to r e-enter them in order f or your SMS Ser vice t o work.
Select a Send Ser vice Centre number If you have entered additional Service Centre numbers, you can choose which send Ser vice centr e you want to use. Y our BT Fr ees tyle 310 is pr e-set to send using Service Centre 1 and receive using Service Centre 2.
