1 VCX ™ C ONNECT I NSTALLATION AND C ONFIGURATION The VCX Connect product is a member of the VCX IP T elephony Solutions and is designed to accommodate up to 250 telephone users. Other VCX IP T elephony products support larger number of user s and offer additional features that are not pr esent in the VCX Connect product.

Obtaining a License 15 ■ Alternatively , use the ssh (secur e shell) UNIX/Lin ux command to connect to the server . This command is available on most UNIX- or Linux-based systems. If you are using a Microsoft Windows PC you can install the Cygwin tools.

Installing a Primary and Secondar y Pair of VCX Connect Servers 19 3 Start the primary and secondar y servers and wait for approximately 5 minutes for the boot process to be completed. 4 Using one of the con nection methods outlined in “Accessing a VCX Connect Server” on page 14 , access the primary server and log in to the root account.

IP Telephony Configuration 41 7 Examine the default Type Of Service (TOS) configurations supplied with VCX software. A TOS determines the features available on a VCX telephone (for example, call forwarding) and the default button mapping available on VCX Business and Manager’s telephones.

Altern ative file formats include comma-separated value files and tab-de limited value files. Both of these can be created by exporting data fr om the Microsoft Excel spreadsheet.
Configuring Telephon es 45 Importing this file updates the specified users and ties on e telephone (per line in the file) to a user by specifying the MAC address of the telephone.

CAUTION: VCX serv ers other than VCX Connect servers cannot be upgraded to run VCX Conne ct software.

B USB D EVICES Using USB Storage Devices The VCX Connect product supports the use of most USB 1.1 and 2.0 flash memory and disk de vices. After they have been recognized by the VCX system, you can transfer files such as database backups and license key files to and from these devices.
52 A PPENDIX B: USB D EVICES Requirements Before you attempt to connect any USB device, the device must: ■ Contain a single partition only , and ■ Have been previously formatted with one of the file systems mentioned in “Supported File Systems” .
