1 - 1 1. I ntroduction Product Overview The external print servers enhance company capability by letting you place your printers, plotters, or equality printers at convenient locations dire ctly on the Ethernet network, and by increasing network printer performance and management.

3 - 1 3 . T he P SAdmin U tility for W indows-based The PSAdmin is a proprietary Windows-based management program that can a ssist you in configuring and managing your print server in NetWare environments. The program can be run from any Windows-based PC.

6 - 1 6. N etwork P rint M onitor Preparation The print server supports TCP/IP , IPX/SPX and NetBEUI protocols under Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000/XP. Please make sure that the following steps have been completed before proceeding with installation under Windows PC.
Network Print Monitor 6 - 2 IPX/SPX The IPX/SPX-compatible Protocol must be installed. For further information, please read “ IPX/SPX-compatible Protocol Installation” section in this chapter. NetBEUI The NetBEUI protocol must be installed. For further information, please read “ NetBEUI Protocol Installation” section in this chapter.

7 - 1 7. TCP/IP LPR P ort P rinting I nstallation Basic TCP/IP Installation Overview When installing your print server in a TCP/IP environment, IP addresses are essential as a basic means of communications. It is therefore necessary to first assign an IP address to your print server unit.
TCP/IP LPR Port Printing Installation 7 - 2 2. Manually specify (using DOS commands or UNIX text-mode commands. This applies to Windows NT/2000/XP and UNIX systems). Note: The Netw ork Print Monitor can only search for the print server(s) over the same network segment the Windows NT/2000/XP, UNIX co mputer is located.
TCP/IP LPR Port Printing Installation 7 - 3 DHCP The print server supports DHCP feature, allowing the print server to obtain an IP address and related TCP/IP settings automatically from a DHCP server. While the print server supports DHCP, we strongly recommend you manually specify a fixed IP address to the print server.

Type in the IP address assigned to the print server in the Name or address of server providing lpd box. 7. TCP/IP LPR Port Printing Installation 7 - 16 IBM AIX 4.xx 1. Login root . 2. (Optional) Edit the /etc/hosts file. Add a line of the Print Server's host name and its associated IP address. Note: Before this step, please make sure you have follow the directions on page 80 to manually assign an IP address to the Print Server.
TCP/IP LPR Port Printing Installation 7 - 17 Linux The Print Server can work under any Linux-based systems, including Slackware, RedHat, etc, without any problems.

Upgrading Print Server 8 - 2 2.Before upgradi ng print server, please ensure print server is not printing jobs. In case of printing, you have to wait till the current print job is finished before you can proceed.
