8 4 Operating Y our Snow Thr ower Now that y ou hav e set up your snow throw er for operation, get acquainted with its controls and f eatures. These are descr ibed below and illustrated this page. This knowledge will allow y ou to use your new equipment to its fullest potential.

Shift Cable If the full r ange of sp eeds ( for ward and reverse) c annot be achi eved, refer to the figure to the lef t and ad just the shif t cab le as follows : 1 . Place the s hif t lever in the faste st for ward speed posit ion.
13 5 Drive Control When th e drive contro l is releas ed and in th e diseng aged “up ” posit ion, the c able sh ould have very lit tle s lack. I t should N OT be tight. Check t he adjust ment of the dr ive control a s follows : 1 . With t he drive contr ol release d, push th e snow thrower gentl y forward.
14 5 Maintaining Y our Snow Thr ower W ARNING Before lubr icating, repairing, or in spect- ing, disengage al l controls and s top engine. W ait until all mo ving parts have come to a complete stop. A void oi l spillage on rubber friction w heel and alum inum driv e plat e.
15 5 Maintaining Y our Snow Thr ower A ug er Belt Replacement T o remove and replace your snow t hrower’s a uger be lt, proce ed as follows : 1 . Remove the plast ic bel t cover on the front of the engine by rem oving the t wo self-ta pping s crews.
16 A ug ers • The auger s are secured to t he spira l shaf t with t wo shear pins a nd cot ter pins. If t he auger shoul d strike a foreign ob ject o r ice jam, t he snow thrower is des igned so that th e pins may shear . R efer to Figure 9. • If the aug ers will not tur n, chec k to see if the p ins have sheared.
17 Friction Wheel Remov al If the snow t hrower fails to drive with t he drive co ntrol engage d, and per formi ng the dr ive control c able adj ust- ment on page 1 4 fails to c orrec t the prob lem, the fri cti on wheel may need to be r eplace d. Follow the ins truc tions below.
18 7 Off-Season Storage Never st or e sno w throw er with fuel in tank indoors or in poorly v e ntilat ed areas, where fuel fumes ma y reach an open flame, spark or pilot l ight as on a furnace, w ater heater , clothes dryer or gas appliance. W ARNING Drain fuel int o an approv e d container outdoors, aw ay from any open flame.
