OVERVIEW 3 Dynamic Host Configuration Pr otocol (DHCP) support on-board m akes f or the easi est possible connecti on to a network. SETTING UP YOUR WIRELESS COMPUTER TO CONFIGURE THE W AP 9 Y ou will need to set you Wir eless Clien t to the sam e subnet as th e W AP before you can access the W eb-based interface . P erform the f ollowing steps fr om the computer you wish to configur e your W AP from: NOTE: Y ou must undo these steps once you have complete configuring your WAP .

CONFIGURING THE WIRELESS NETWORK SETTINGS 16 Changing the Wireless Netw ork Name (SSID) To ide n tify your wireless n etwork, a nam e called the SSID (Servi ce Set Id entifi er) is used. Th e def ault SSID of th e W AP is “WLAN” . Y ou can chang e this to anythin g you want to or you can leave it un chang ed.

T o make settin g up your network f or the first tim e easy , the W AP ships with encrypti on turned o ff.
CONFIGURING THE WIRELESS NETWORK SETTINGS 18 2. T ype in a passphrase . A passphrase is like a passwor d. I t can be a mixture of n umbers and letters . After you type in your passphrase , cli ck “Gener ate” . When you cli ck “Gener ate”, the k ey fields below will becom e populated.
CONFIGURING THE WIRELESS NETWORK SETTINGS 19 Setting Encryption Manually Using a He xadecimal K ey A he xad ecimal k ey is a mixture o f numbers an d letters fr om A–F and 0–9. 64-bit k eys are five two-di git numbers . 128-bit keys ar e 13 two-digit n umbers.

W AP UTILITIES 21 Setting MAC A ddress Filtering NOTE: This feature may not e xist in your current W AP firmware . Please check belkin.com f or the latest firmware updates that will support his feature . The MA C add ress filter is a powerful security featur e that allows you to specify which computers ar e allowed on the n etwork.
W AP UTILITIES 22 Restarting the W AP Sometim es it may be n ecessary to restart or r eboot the W AP if it begins workin g improperly . Restarting or rebootin g the W AP will NO T delete any o f your configur ation settin gs. Restarting the W AP to Restore Normal Operatio n 1.

Saving your configur ation will allow you to r estore it later if your settin gs are lost or chang ed. I t is recomm end ed that you back up your curren t confi gurati on befor e performin g a firmwar e update .
W AP UTILITIES 25 3. When th e save is complete , you will see the win dow below . Click “Close” . The confi gurati on is now saved . Restoring a Pre vious Configur ation This option will allow you to r estore a pr eviously saved confi gurati on. 1.

W AP UTILITIES 27 Updating Firmw are From tim e to time , Belkin may release n ew version s of th e W AP’s firmware . Firmwar e updates con tain feature impr ovemen ts and fix es to pr oblems that m ay have existed .
W AP UTILITIES 28 2. A wind ow will open that allows you to select the location wh ere you wan t to save the firm ware file . Select a location. Y ou can name the file anythin g you want, or use th e def ault name . Be sure to save the file in a place wher e you can locate it yourself later .
