AL TERNA TE SETUP METHOD 18 Alternate Setup Method The A dvanced U ser Interface is a web-based tool that you can use to set up th e Router if you don’t wan t to use the Easy In stall Wizard. Y ou can also use it to ma na ge advanced fun ction s of the Router .
AL TERNA TE SETUP METHOD 19 1.6 Bef ore plugging th e power cord in to the Router , plug th e cord into th e wall, then plug th e cord in to the Router’s power jack. 1.7 V erify that your modem is conn ected to the Router by checkin g the li ghts on the fr ont o f the Router .

When you ar e logged in to the Router , this button will chang e to read “Logout” . Loggin g into the Router will tak e you to a separate login pag e wher e you will need to en ter a password.
23 AL TERNA TE SETUP METHOD Step 4: Configuring your Router f or Connection to your ISP The “In ternet/W AN” tab is wher e you will set up your Router to connect to your Intern et Service Pr ovider .
24 AL TERNA TE SETUP METHOD Setting your Connection T ype From th e connecti on type page , you can select the type o f connecti on you use. Select the type o f connecti on you use by clicking th e radi o button (1) ne xt to your connecti on type and th en clicking “N ext” (2) .

26 AL TERNA TE SETUP METHOD Setting your ISP Connection T ype to P oint-to-Point Pr otocol ov er Ethernet (PPP oE) M ost DSL provi ders use PPP oE as the conn ection type . If you use a DSL mod em to connect to th e Intern et, your ISP may use PPP oE to log you into the servi ce .
27 4. MTU The MTU settin g should n ever be changed unless your I SP gives you a specific MTU setting. M aking chan ges to the MTU settin g can cause problem s with your Intern et connecti on includin g disconnecti on from the In ternet, slow In ternet access, an d problem s with Internet appli cation s working pr operly .

39 USING THE WEB-BASED ADV ANCED USER INTERFACE Configuring Internal Forw arding Settings The Virtu al Servers functi on will allow you to route extern al (Intern et) calls for services su ch as a web server (port 80), FTP server (P ort 21), or other applicati ons thr ough your Router to your internal n etwork.
40 USING THE WEB-BASED ADV ANCED USER INTERFACE Setting Client IP Filters The Router can be confi gured to r estrict access to the In ternet, e-m ail, or other n etwork services at specific d ays and times . Restricti on can be set for a sin gle computer , a ran ge o f computers, or multiple computers .
41 USING THE WEB-BASED ADV ANCED USER INTERFACE Setting MAC A ddress Filtering The MA C add ress filter is a powerful security feature that allows you to specify which computers ar e allowed on the n etwork. Any computer attempting to access the n etwork that is not specifi ed in the filter list will be deni ed access.
42 USING THE WEB-BASED ADV ANCED USER INTERFACE Enabling the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) The DMZ featur e allows you to specify one computer on your n etwork to be placed outsid e of th e firewall. This may be n ecessary if the fir ewall is causing pr oblems with an applicati on such as a gam e or video confer encin g applicati on.
43 USING THE WEB-BASED ADV ANCED USER INTERFACE Blocking an ICMP Ping Computer hackers use what is kn own as “pingin g” to find potenti al victim s on the Intern et. By pingin g a specific IP add ress an d receivin g a response fr om the IP add ress , a hacker can determin e that somethin g of in terest migh t be ther e.

45 USING THE WEB-BASED ADV ANCED USER INTERFACE Restarting the Router Sometim es it may be n ecessary to restart or reboot th e Router if it begins workin g improperly . Restarting or rebootin g the Router will N OT d elete any o f your configur ation settin gs.
46 USING THE WEB-BASED ADV ANCED USER INTERFACE Restoring Factory Def ault Settings U sing this option will r estore all of th e settings in th e Router to the f actory (def ault) settings . It is recomm end ed that you back up your settings bef ore you r estore all of th e defaults .
47 USING THE WEB-BASED ADV ANCED USER INTERFACE Saving a Current Configur ation Y ou can save your current confi guration by usin g this feature . Saving your configur ation will allow you to r estore it later if your settings ar e lost or chang ed.

A 60-secon d countdown will appear on th e screen. Wh en the countd own reach es zero, th e Router’s configur ation will be restor ed.
