9 INST ALLA TION Pre-Configur ation The en closure o f the Switch is d esign ed for desktop or r ack-moun t configur ation. Th e Switch is rack-m ountable in stan dar d 19-inch server r acks. Rack-moun t hard ware is inclu ded with th ese Switches f or a sturdy r ack installati on.
1. Remove th e brack ets from th e box. 2. Align th e brack et with the fr ont of th e Switch for flush in stallation in your r ack. 3. A ttach th e brack et to the si de o f your Switch with the screws pr ovid ed. 4. M oun t the Switch to th e rack r ail assembly .

If th e connecti on to the computer is via a PS/2 cable , a small m ouse i con is displayed. If th e mouse conn ection to th e computer is via USB, th e U SB tri den t symbol is displayed.

34 34 USING YOUR S WITCH To start the upd ate process , you must run th e AutoUpd ate applicati on by selecting “A utoUpdate .ex e” from th e start men u, or a desktop sh ortcut. The first scr een of th e AutoUpd ate applicati on will prompt the user to select an automati c or man ual upd ate .
35 USING YOUR S WITCH Updating Devices via the W eb When you start th e AutoUpd ate applicati on, it search es your computer for devi ces that support the upd ate process . It also autom atically conn ects to the W eb and search es for available upd ates for th e devi ces that are foun d.

AutoUpd ate does minim al checking to d etermine wh ether th e selected file is valid in this m ode . 39 USING YOUR S WITCH When th e update is complete , th e Ne xt button will become active , allowing th e user to complete the upd ate . If the d ownload fails f or any r eason, a dialog bo x will appear with an option to retry the upd ate . If the appli cation has completed su ccessfully , this screen will be displayed.
40 USING YOUR S WITCH Completing the Firmw are Update The Switch n eeds to be power-cycled (or reset) after a su ccessful download , so that it can progr am its intern al componen ts. Th e update process will n ot be complete until th e devi ce has been power-cycled.

What do I need to do to get it running? • If you want to ad d your console to a Switch that is alr eady in your d aisy-chain with its DIP switches set fr om 00 through 01, you simply have to conn ect your m onitor , keyboar d, an d mouse .
