01 Safety 12 Safety in the passenger compar tment 01 Always use seatbelts Heavy brak ing can have serious conse- quences if the seatbelts are no t used. Ensure that all passengers use their seatbelts. It is important that the se atbelt lies against the body so it can pr ovide maximu m protec- tion.
01 Safety 13 Safety in the passenger compar tm ent 01 Seatbelts and pr egnancy The seatbelt should always be worn during pregnancy. But it is cr ucial that it be worn in the correct way. The diago nal section should wrap over the shoulder then be routed be- tween the breasts and to the side of the a b- domen.

01 Safety 22 Safety in the passenger compar tment 01 Protection against whiplash injur y – WHIPS The whiplash protection system (W HIPS) consists of energy absorbing bac krests and specially designe d head restraints in the front seats.

Do not dr ive with de- ployed airbags. • Let an authorised Vol vo workshop replace components in the car’s safety system.

02 Locks and alarm 36 Remote control k ey/key blade 02 General The car is supplied wi th two remote control keys or PCCs (P ersonal Car Co mmunicator). They are used to star t the car and for locki ng and unlocking. More remote control keys can be ordered – up to six can be pr ogrammed and used fo r the same car.

The lock buttons and door handles are disen- gaged during locking which also prev ents opening from the inside, so -called dead- locks, see page 47 (onl y applies to certain markets).

Prise off the plug cov ering the keyhole. Unlock the boot l id by tu r ni n g t h e key bl ad e one ha lf turn anticlockwise as illustrated.

In the event of an acc ident, this allows the emergency servi c es to get int o the car quickly. Seat adjustment is norm ally made when the ignition is on and ca n always be made when the engine is running.

This r efrigerant contains no chlo- rine, which means that it is harmless to the ozone layer. Have an authorised Volvo work- shop carry out the filling /changing of refrigerant.
