Chapter 1 Introduction This chapter provides an overview of your Print Server's features. Features Congratulations on the purchase of your new Print Server. Your Pr int Server was designed to provide a simple and efficien t network printing solution .

Chapter 2 LAN Installation This chapter describes how to install the Pr int Server in your Lo cal Area Network. Procedure 1. Preparation • Ensure the power is OFF. Do not connect t he Print Server while power is On. • Find the Default Server Name for your Print Server.
Chapter 3 P rint Server Configuration This chapter provides an overview of the configuration process. Overview The Print Serv er is designe d to support m any diffe rent platfo rms, and the con figuration required would depend upon the environment in which it is installed.

Chapter 4 Client PC Configuration The chapter details the client configuration required on LAN clients to use the printer or printers attached to the Print Server. Overview Before perfor ming client co nfiguration, th e Print Server m ust be installed on your LAN, a nd configured as described in Chapter 3.
Checking your Network Protocols (Windows 9x) Your PC must have EITHER the TCP/IP or NetBEUI proto cols installed. (All versions of Windows afte r Windows 95 have TCP/IP i nstalled by default .) • If using the Peer-to-peer Printing , the installation program will check this for you.
Windows Peer to Peer Printing With this pri nting method, print jobs are st ored (que ued) on your PC , and then sent to the Print Server when it is available.

Windows 9x/ME Setup Before perfor ming the foll owing proce dure, the Print Ser ver must be inst alled on your LAN, and configured as described in Chapter 3. Both the Print Server and th e attached printer should be powered ON. 1. Insert th e supplied CD-ROM into your drive.
Figure 11: Print Port Setu p (Peer-to-peer Printing) If your Print Server is not listed: • Click the "Refresh" button. • Check that bot h the Print Server and th e printer are properly connected, and powered on. • Check that the Print Server has been configured.
3. The printer port will be created, then a screen like the following will be displayed . Figure 12: Configure Printer Port 4. Select the correct Windows printer in the Existing Printers list, and click the Connect button. If the correct printer type is not listed, c lick "Add New Printer" to run the Windows Add Printer wizard.
• Locate the Delete Port button. This button is on the Details or Ports tab, depen ding on your vers ion or Windows. • If the Print Server's IP Address is changed, an d you can no longer print, delete the port (see procedure above) and re-install it.
Windows SMB Printing This method re quires no additional software to be installed, but t he NetBEUI or TCP/IP protocol m ust be install ed on your PC. U se the following procedure to install the Print Server's printer as a Windows SMB network pr inter: 1.
Printing from MS-DOS Programs Windows can r edirect print data from a parallel port on your PC (e .g. LPT1) to a network printer. This redirection is called "Capture Prin ter Port", and is useful for MS-DOS programs.
Capture Settings - Windows 2000/XP 1. Login as Adm inistrator. 2. Open the c ommand pr ompt win dow. 3. Enter the following command to capture data from LPT1 (parallel port 1) net use lpt1 server_nameprinter_name /persistent:yes Where server_name printer_name is replaced with the actua l path to your printer.

Select the correct printe r Manufactu rer and Model, as advised by y our Network Administrator, and click Next .
8. Clic k Select . Configuration is now complete. Printing Printing with the Print Server installed in an Ap pleTalk network is iden tical to normal printing. Just select File - Print and choo se the desired printer. Advanced Setup and Management In a mixed Windows PC/M acintosh envir onment, you can use BiAdm in to configure the Print Server.
Figure 21: LPR Screen 4. Enter the IP address of the Print Server in the LPR Printer's Address field, and enter the Queue Name ( e.g. L1). 5. Select the Printer Model from the drop-down list.
Chapter 5 BiAdmin Management Utility This chapter describes the installation and operation of the BiAdmin Configuration & Management program. Requirements This program requires: • Windows 95, Window s 98 or ME • Windows NT 4.0 , Windows 2000 o r XP Additional Recommendations : • Screen resolution of 800 * 600 or greater.
Device List The left panel displays a list of all Print Servers found on the network. When a Print Server is selected from the list, its details are displayed in the right panel. Note : If the IP address is "Nul l", please click the Refresh icon to get the value again.
Select the desir ed port from the drop-dow n list to displ ay the current status of the printer attached to the po rt. Possible states are: • Status - On-line, Off-line, or Out of Paper • Printing.
Menus Main Menu Device Status Same as Device Icon. Printer Stat us Same as Printer St atus Icon. Configure Same as Configure Icon. Upgrade Same as Upgr ade Icon. Refresh Same as Refresh Icon. Exit Same as Exit Icon. InitDevice Menu Reset Device This will cause the d evice to reboot.
System Tab This screen allows you to: • Change the na me of the Print Server. • Change the "Password" for t he Print Server. • Set the Networ k Protocols use d the selected Print Server. (Any prot ocols not used on your LAN may be disabled.
TCP/IP Tab Selecting this tab will allow configu ration for the TCP/IP network protocol. The basic options are: • Dynamic IP Address (DHCP) - The IP address is obtained automatically, from a DHCP Server on your network. • Fixed IP Address - Y ou must enter t he IP address, S ubnet Mask, a nd Gateway Ad dress.
AppleTalk Tab Generally, no Print Server confi guration is r equired in or der to use Ap pleTalk. This screen allows you to: • Set the Zone Nam e field to determine which Apple system s can gain acces s to this printer. • The Printer Type field is used to describe the printer driver used for each port.
NetBEUI Tab This screen allows you to: • Choose the Domai n name for the selected Print Server. • Set how fast jobs are sent to the printer by using the Response Time field. • Set the desired opt ion for the Abort Job if Error Occ ured setting. • YES causes a print job to be termin ated if a printing error occurs.
Internet Printing Tab The Internet Printing feature available on some models, allo ws you to send print jobs to the Print Server using In ternet E-mail.
Port Tab This screen ha s 2 panels - Physical Port and Logical Port . Physical Port The following settings are available: • Selected Physical Port - Select the Physical Printer Port you wish to configure. • Handsh ake Signal - Select Busy On ly or Busy & Ack for the Physical Port.
Chapter 6 W eb-Based Management This chapter explains how to use your We b Browser to configure the Print Server Overview The Print Server incorporate the HTTP server. This allows you to connect to th e Print Server and configure i t using you r Web Browser .
Connecting to the Print Server 1. Start your Web Brow ser. 2. In the Address box, enter HTT P:// followed by the IP Address of the Print Server. e.g. http://192.168.0.21 3. You will then b e prompted for the password . If no password h as been set, just press E NTER .
NetBEUI Figure 30: NetBEUI Screen Domain Name Enter the designated work group to be serviced by the Print Serv er. This field is not case sensitive, so names with different case will be considered to be the sam e name. Response Time Set how fast jobs are sent to the printer.

Password Enter the devic e password, an d again in the Verify field. Once a password is entered, it is requ ired in order to gain access and change the configuration.
Logical Printers Logical Printe rs (ports) can be used unde r Unix . For each L ogical Printer, the following fields are available: Logical Printer (Port) Select the Logical Printer Port yo u wish to configur e. (e.g. L1) Click the Get Data button to update the display with the current data for the selected logical printer.
Chapter 7 Special Features This chapter covers the special features of the Print Server. Overview The Print Server has 2 special features: • IPP (Int ernet Printi ng Protocol ).
IPP Client Setup - Windows 98/ME For these platforms, IPP Client software is supplied on the CD-ROM. Also you can distribute the setup prog ram (IPP_CL IENT.EXE) to use rs vial E-m ail. Installing from the CD-ROM 1. Insert the CD-ROM in your drive. If th e program does no t start automatically, run the SETUP program in the top-level folder.
Figure 34: Select Printer for IPP Port 6. Either select an existin g printer to use the new port, and click OK. OR Click the Add New Prin ter button to create a new printer to use the IPP port. This will start the Add Printer wizard . Follow the prompts to complete the process.
IPP Client Setup - Windows 2000/XP Windows 2000 and XP have their own IPP Client, and there is no need to install the supplied IPP Client Software. To use the Windows IPP Client with the Print Server, follow this procedure: 1. Start the Add Printer wizard.
5. Click "OK", and then select the printer manufacturer and model to match the printer connected to the port on the IPP Server. 6. Click "Next", and co mplete the Wizard. The IPP printer is now ready for use. Using IPP Printers The IPP Printer can be selected a nd used like an y other Windows printer.
User (Client) Requirements • Internet Connection. Either t hrough a LA N, or dial-u p. • E-Mail address. This is used to notify the user that their print job has been do ne, or if there any pr oblems. • Printer Driver. Users m ust have a pri nter driver whi ch matches the printer connect ed to the remote Internet Print Server.
User Software The software provide d for rem ote users (Inte rNet Printi ng Port) shoul d be installed by everyone intending to use Internet printing. Othe rwise, remote users can print correctly only if: • They send an E - Mail directly to the Print Serv er Mail Account, using their normal E - Mail application.
Remote Printer E-mail Address The E - Mail address for the Internet printer. Your print jobs will be sent to this E - Mail address. Mail Server Name or IP Address This is the name or IP Address of your Mail Server . If you are on a L AN, ask the LAN Administrat or.
Checking the Printer Driver To make sure that the correct printer driver for the remote printer is installed on your system, you can use the InterNet Printing Po rt to send an E - Mail to the Internet Printer. Th e procedure is as follows: 1. Connect your default printer to the InterNet Printing Port.
Chapter 8 T roubleshooting This chapter describes some problem situations, which may arise, and the solutions to them. Overview If you encounter printing difficulties, pleas e refer to the appropriate section.
AppleTalk (Macintosh) Problem No. 1 Why do I get an inc orrect printout? Solution No. 1 Some possible reasons are: • You m ay have chosen Bi nary encoding t o print the fil e. Try to use ASCII en coding. • Some of the fonts, which are in your print file may not be supported by the printer.
Problem No. 8 Why do I have tr ouble printing with the LaserWriter 8? Solution No. 8 Your applicatio n software may not be compatible with th e LaserWriter 8 driver or your system may not meet the requirements of the LaserWriter 8 driver. Use the A pple LaserWriter 7 driver instead.
Windows Printing Problems Problem No. 1 When I tried to install the Printing softw are for Peer-to-Peer printing, I received an err or message and the ins tallation was aborted. . Solution No. 1 This may be caused by an existing installatio n of the printer port software.
7. Click the Add Po rt button. On the resulting screen, select Other , then Printer Server , as the port to add, as shown below. 8. Click OK to see the Print Port Con figuration screen, as shown below.
9. Click the Browse Device button, select the desired Print Server, and click OK. 10. Click OK to return to the Printe rs folders, and right-click on the Printer. Ensure that the Work off-lin e option is NOT ch ecked. The Printer shoul d no longer be graye d out, and is ready fo r use.
Problem No. 5 When printing from some softwa re applications such as Power Point, it takes a long time and the print out is incorrect. Solution No. 5 The problem is due to the printer, which is being conf igured to Start printing after the first page is spooled .
Unix Troubleshooting Problem No. 1 Print Server device is not recogniz ed. Solution No. 1 Check the following: • The netw ork cable is OK. • There are no routers between the Print Server and the UNIX host during IP address assignm ent. • There are no NetWare File Se rvers witho ut TCP/IP support between the Print Serv er and the UNIX host.

Appendix C Unix Systems Overview Your Wireless Print Server suppo rts the LPD Unix printing me thod, which is sup ported by all common Uni x systems. You must configure both the Wireless Prin t Server itself and your Unix system, as described in the following sections .
LPD Printing LPD is a built-in printing protocol for most UNIX systems. Configuratio n for the m ost common pl atforms i s described belo w. LPD on IBM AIX 4.15 Before proceeding, ensure that th e Print Server has been assigned an IP Address. To setup your AIX system for LP D printing, perform the following steps.
LPD on System V Before begi nning LPD Set up, ensure that an IP Address has been assigne d to the Print Ser ver. Keep the followin g points in mind: The remote host name is the name of the Print Server. The remote printer name is t he print queue name for the L ogi cal Printer.
Where: Printer_name is the Print Queue name used to store jobs for the corresp onding logical printer. PS_NAME is the Print Server name defined in /etc/hosts. Logical_Printer_name is th e log ical pr inter na me on the Prin t Serv er. (e.g . L1) Spooler_directory is t he directory you created in Step 6.
LPD on BSD Before conti nuing, ensure t hat an IP Ad dress ha s bee n assigned to the Print Server. Rem ember the following: The remote host name is the name of the Print Server. The remote printer name is the logical printer (e.g. L1) on the Print Server.

Appendix D NetW are Overview • The Print Server must be c onfigured as a valid device on y our TCP/IP net work. This printing m ethod uses LPR over TCP/IP, not the Netware protocol .
To star t the NDPS Manag er whenever you bring up th e server, add a command lik e the following to your server's AUTOEXEC.NCF file: LOAD NDPSM SerMGR.
