The batter y fits behin d the battery door on t he back of t he PP T 2700. T o install the b attery in your P PT 2700: 1. Open the latches on the battery cover an d lift the battery cover away from the PP T 2700.

T o att ach th e handst rap to the back of the te rmina l: 1. Thread the rou nd metal piece through th e metal handstrap connector on the back of the terminal.

2-1 Chapter 2 Operating the PP T 2700 Intr oduct ion This chap ter provi des basic inst ructions for using a nd navigatin g your P P T 2700 ter minal. Using the P o wer Button Press the power button on the lower left-han d side of the termin al to turn the PPT 2700 on and off .

2-5 Operatin g the PPT 2700 Using th e Na vigation Bar and Command Bar The navigation bar at the top of the screen displays the active program and current time, and allows you to select programs and cl ose screens. Use the command bar at the bottom of the s creen to perform tasks in pro grams.

T ap the arr ow next to the I nput Pane l button, then Character R ecognizer . 2. W rite a letter in the box. When you write a letter , it is co nverted to typed text th at appears on th e screen.

2-9 Operatin g the PPT 2700 Recording a Message Y ou may record a mess age to capture th oughts, reminders, and phon e numbers. In Calend ar , T asks, an d Contacts, you can include a recordin g in the Notes tab. In the Notes p rogram, you can either create a stand-alone recording or in clude a recording in a written note.

Enter th e text you want to find, sel ect a data type, then tap Go . T o find info rmation taki ng up st orage space o n your t erminal, select Larger than 6 4 KB in Ty p e .

3-2 PPT 2700 Series Product Referenc e Guide Adding an d Remo ving Pr o grams Programs pr e-installed on y our terminal a re stored in ROM (read- only memory ). Y ou cannot remove, mod ify , or accide ntally lose this softwa re. Y ou m ay add pro grams and d ata files to RAM (random access memory).
3-3 Customizi ng Your PPT 2700 explorer . This is u seful wh en installing applicatio ns on t he PP T 27 00. Applicatio ns stored in the Application f older are ret ained even when th e terminal is co ld booted, just as the PPT 2700 Demo program is retained in memory .

If necessa ry , the entire OS imag e may be dow nloaded t o the te rminal usi ng files provided b y Symbol. Th e current OS partition on the ter minal is incl uded as pa rt of the TCM ins tallation package.
3-5 Customizi ng Your PPT 2700 If the file is a n installer , the installa tion wizar d begins. Follow the directio ns on the screen. Once the s oftware is ins talled on yo ur deskto p computer , the installer transfer s the soft ware to your terminal.

If the pro gram does not appear in the list of insta lled programs , use Fil e Explorer on y our terminal to locate the pr ogram, ta p and hold the progra m, then tap Del ete o n the pop-up menu.

P erforming an Active Sync for the First Time The first time you synchronize your data, you need to enter user information on bo th the PP T 2700 termi nal an d desktop com puter .
