1-1 SEATS AND RESTRAINT SYSTEMS 78J00-03E Front Seats Manual Seats 808318 Lift the bar l ocated u nder the front of the seat to unlock it. Slide the sea t to where you want it and release the bar. Try to move the seat with your body to be sure the seat i s locked in place.

Head Restraints 805677 Adjust the head restraint so that the top of the restraint is at the same hei ght as the top of the occupant’s hea d. 1-5 SEATS AND RESTRAINT SYSTEMS 78J00-03E Passenger Fol ding Seatback The front passenger’s sea tback may fold flat. To fold the seatback, do the following: 1) Lower the head restraint all the wa y. 2) Lift the bar under the front of the se at to unlock it.
1-6 SEATS AND RESTRAINT SYSTEMS 78J00-03E To raise the seatback, do the following: 1) Lift the recliner lever, located on the outboard side of the seat, up fully and push up on the seatback. 2) Continue raising the seatback un til the seatback re-engages.

To recline the seatback, do the followi ng: 1) Lift and hold the lever located on top of the seatback. 2) Tilt the seatback rearward, then release the lever when the seatback is in the desired position.

It also tells you some things you should not do with safe ty belts. Your vehicle has indicators to remind you and your passengers to buckle your safety belts.

1-11 SEATS AND RESTRAINT SYSTEMS 78J00-03E Question: If I am a good driver, and I never drive far from home, why should I wear safety belts? Answer: You may be an excellent driver, but if you are in an a ccident – e ven one that is no t your fault – you and your passeng ers can be hurt.
1-12 SEATS AND RESTRAINT SYSTEMS 78J00-03E It may be necessary to pull stitching on the safety belt through the latch pl ate to fully tighten the lap belt on smaller occupants. 809246 The lap pa rt of the belt sho uld be worn low and snug on the hips, ju st touching the thighs.

1-14 SEATS AND RESTRAINT SYSTEMS 78J00-03E 1378915 To unlatch the be lt, push the button on the buckle. The belt shoul d go back out of the way. Before you close the door, be sure the belt is out of the way. If y ou slam the door on it, you can damage both the belt and your vehicle.
1-15 SEATS AND RESTRAINT SYSTEMS 78J00-03E Right Front Passenger Position To learn how to wear the right front pas- senger’s safety belt properly, refer to “Driver Position” in this section. The right front passenger’s safety bel t works the same way as the driver’s s afety belt – except for the following.

This could cause seri ous or even fatal injuries. The should er belt should go over the shoul der and across the chest.

Then, place the guide over the belt, and insert the two edges of the belt into the slots of the guide. 1397291 3) Be sure that the belt is not twisted and it lies flat.

Answer: If the child is sitting in a sea t next to a win- dow, move the child toward the center of the vehicle.

1-31 SEATS AND RESTRAINT SYSTEMS 78J00-03E Securing a Child Restraint in the Right Front Seat Position Your vehicle has a right front passenger's airbag. A rear seat is a safer place to secure a forward-facing child restrai nt. Refer to “Where to Put the Restraint ” in this section.

1-34 SEATS AND RESTRAINT SYSTEMS 78J00-03E WARNING You can be severely injured or killed in a crash if you are not wearing your safety belt – even if you have airbags. Wearing your safety belt dur ing a crash helps reduce your chance of hitting things inside the vehicle or being ejected from it.

The driver’s and right front passenger’s frontal airbags are design ed to inflate in moderate to severe fr ontal or near-frontal crashes. But they are designed to inflate only if the impact exceeds a predetermined deployment threshold .

1-39 SEATS AND RESTRAINT SYSTEMS 78J00-03E In many crashes severe enough to inflate the airbag, winds hields are broken by vehi- cle deformatio n. Additional windshie ld breakage may also occur from the right front passenger airbag. • Airbags are designed to i nflate only once.
1-40 SEATS AND RESTRAINT SYSTEMS 78J00-03E If your vehicle does not have a rear seat that will accommodate a rear-facing chi ld restraint, never put a child in a rear-facing child restraint in the right front passenger seat unless the passen ger airbag status indicator sho ws off and the airbag is off.
1-41 SEATS AND RESTRAINT SYSTEMS 78J00-03E If, after reinstalling the child restraint and restarting the vehicle, the on indicator is still lit, check to make sure that the vehi- cle’s seatback is not pressing the child restraint into the seat cushion.
1-42 SEATS AND RESTRAINT SYSTEMS 78J00-03E Servici ng Your Airbag -Equippe d Vehicle Airbags affect how your vehicle should be serviced. There are pa rts of the airbag system in several plac es around your vehi- cle. You do not want the system to inflate while someone is working on your vehicle.

After a very minor collision, nothing may be necessary. But if the belts were stretched, as they would be if w orn during a more severe crash, then you need ne w parts.

2-1 FEATU RES AND CONTR OLS 78J00-03E Keys 805686 One key is used for the ignition and all of the locks. Key code information can be obtained by your dealer. These code numbers can be used to make new keys. Additional keys that are needed can be made at any retail service facility provided you have the key code information.
2-2 FEATUR ES AND CONTROLS 78J00-03E Remote Keyless En try (RKE) System Operation The vehicle’s doors can be locked and unlocked from about 3 fe et (1 m) up to 65 feet (20 m) aw ay with the Remote Ke yless Entry (RKE) transmitter. If your vehicle has the remote start feature you can also start your vehicle with the RKE transmitter.

(Vehicle Locator /Panic Alarm): Press and release th is button to locate your vehicle. The turn signal lamps wi ll flash and the horn will sound th ree times.
2-4 FEATUR ES AND CONTROLS 78J00-03E Remote Vehicle Sta rt Your vehicle may have the remote start feature. This feature a llows you to start the engine from outside the vehicle.
2-5 FEATU RES AND CONTR OLS 78J00-03E The remote vehicle start feature will not operate if: • The vehicle’s key is in the ignitio n. • The vehicle’s hood, l iftgate or doors are not closed. • The hazard warning flashers are on. • There is an emission control system malfunction.
2-6 FEATUR ES AND CONTROLS 78J00-03E Delayed L ocking A chime will sound three times to indicate a door or liftga te is open when you try to lock the doors with the remote keyless entry (RKE) transm itter or the power door lock switch.
2-7 FEATU RES AND CONTR OLS 78J00-03E Liftgate To unlock the liftgate, press the unlo ck but- ton on the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter twice or use the power door lock switch. To lock the liftgate, press the lock button on the RKE transmitter or use the power door lock switch.
2-8 FEATUR ES AND CONTROLS 78J00-03E Windows 811448 Power Windows 1235612 The window switches are located on each side of the shift lever on the ce nter con- sole. To lower a window, press the switch down. To raise a window, pull the switch up. The power windows o perate when the igni- tion is in RUN or ACC.
2-9 FEATU RES AND CONTR OLS 78J00-03E will go all the way down. To stop the win- dow from lowering, lift the switch all the way up and release it. Window Lockout The driver’s window switches also include a lockout switch. Press the left side of the switch to prevent rear passeng ers from using their window switches.

2-11 FEATU RES AND CONTR OLS 78J00-03E If you are driving and the security ligh t comes on and stays on, you may be able to restart your engine. Your PASS-Key ® III+ system, however, may not be working properly and must be serviced by your dealer.

Engine Coolant Heater If your vehicle has this feature, in very cold weather 0°F (–18°C) or colder, the engine coolant heate r can help. You wil l get easier starting and better fuel eco nomy during engine warm-up.

2-16 FEATUR ES AND CONTROLS 78J00-03E Downshifting the tran saxle in slippery road conditions could result in ski dding, refer to “Loss of Control” in “Your Driving, the Road, and Your Vehicle” in the “Driving Your Vehicle” section.
2-17 FEATU RES AND CONTR OLS 78J00-03E SECOND (2) Gear Start Feature When accelerating your vehicle from a stop in snowy and i cy conditions, you may want to shift into SECOND (2). A higher gear, and light ap plication of the gas pe dal, may allow you to gain more traction on slippery surfaces.

2-19 FEATU RES AND CONTR OLS 78J00-03E Engine Exhaust Running the Engine While Parked It is better not to park with the engine run- ning. But if you ever have to, h ere are some things to know. Follow the proper steps to be sure your vehicle will not move.
2-20 FEATUR ES AND CONTROLS 78J00-03E Mirrors Manual Rearview Mirror To adjust the angle of the mirror, move the mirror to a position that allows you see to out of the back window. To ad just the height of the mirror, adjust the ar m that connects the mirror to the windshield.
2-21 FEATU RES AND CONTR OLS 78J00-03E ZONE is displayed. The number shown is the current zone number. 3) Scroll through the zone numbers that appear in the com pass/temperature window on the mirror by pressing the on/off button. Once you find your zone number, release the button.
2-22 FEATUR ES AND CONTROLS 78J00-03E Center Console Storage Area Your vehicle has a center console armre st with storage area. Use the top lever on the front of the console to open it. There is an additional stora ge area underneath the center console.

2-24 FEATUR ES AND CONTROLS 78J00-03E Sunroof If your vehicle has this feature, the sunroof switch is located on the headliner above the rearview mirror. The igniti on must be in RUN or ACC, or Retained Accessory Power (RAP) must be active, to operate the sunroof.

3-2 INSTRUMENT PANE L 78J00-03E The main componen ts of your instrument panel are the following: A. Air Outlets. Refer to “Outlet Adjust- ment” in this section. B. Turn Signal/Multifun ction Lever. Refer to “Turn Signal/Multifunction Lever” in this section.
3-3 I NSTRUMENT P ANEL 78J00-03E Hazard Warning Flashers The hazard warning flashers let you warn the police and others that you have a prob- lem. The front and rea r turn signal lamps will flash on and off. 1223926 The hazard warning flasher butto n is located in the ce nter of the instrument panel.
3-4 INSTRUMENT PANE L 78J00-03E To signal a turn, mo ve the lever all the way up or down. When the turn is fi nished, the lever will return automati cally. 808320 An arrow on the instrument panel cluster will flash in the direction of the turn or lane change.
3-5 I NSTRUMENT P ANEL 78J00-03E (Delay Adju stment): Move the lever to the delay posi tion to choose a delayed wiping cycle. Turn the intermittent adjust band down for a longer delay or up for a shorter delay. (Off): Move the lever to this position to turn off the windshield wi pers.
3-6 INSTRUMENT PANE L 78J00-03E 1541871 The cruise control buttons are locate d on the left side of the steering wheel. (On/Off): Press this button to turn the cruise control system on and off. The indicator light is on when cruise contro l is on and turns off when cruise control i s off.

3-8 INSTRUMENT PANE L 78J00-03E When it is bright enough outsid e, the head- lamps will go off a nd the DRL will co me on. As with any vehicle, you shoul d turn on the regular headlamp system when you ne ed it.

3-13 I NSTRUMENT P ANEL 78J00-03E (Rear): Press this button to turn the rear window defogger on or off. An indicator l ight on the button comes on to let you know that the rear window defogger i s activated. The rear window defogger only works when the ignition is in RUN.
3-14 INSTRUMENT PANE L 78J00-03E Mode Knob The right knob on the control panel lets you to choose the direction of air delivery. (Vent): This setting directs the air through the headliner ou tlets. (Bi-Level): This setting directs the air thro ugh the floor outlets, as well as the headliner outlets.
3-15 I NSTRUMENT P ANEL 78J00-03E Warning Lights, Gages, and Indicators This part describes the w arning lights and gages that may be on your vehicle. The pictures will help you locate them. Warning lights and gages ca n signal that something is wron g before it becomes seri- ous enough to cause an expensive rep air or replacement.

The vehicle sho uld be parked on a level surface. When the engine is cold, th e coolant level should be at or above the cold fi ll line on the coolant recovery tank.

If the overheat warning continues, there is one more thing you can try. You can add the proper coolant mixture directly to the radiator, but be sure the system is cool before you do it.
