The headlights and tai llights will blink f or about 30 seconds. Also , the hor n will sound inter mittently for about 30 sec- onds at the same time.

The passenger’ s side mirror is a conve x (cur ved surface) mirror . Objects seen in this mirror will look smaller and a ppear far- ther aw ay than when seen in a flat mirror .
2-18 BEFORE DRIVIN G 66J22-03E Adjusting Seat P osition Fron t seat 64J016 The adjustment lev er for each front seat is located under the front of the seat. T o adjust the seat position, pull up on the adjustment lev er and slide the seat forward or rearward.
2-19 BEFORE DRIVING 66J22-03E Rear seat 64J019 T o adjust the seatbac k angle of the rear seats: 1) Pull up the lev er on the top of a split f ol ding seat. 2) Mov e the seatb ack to one of the lock positions. The number of the lock posi- tions depends on the vehicle specifica- tion.
2-20 BEFORE DRIVIN G 66J22-03E 1) Insert a shar p-pointed tool into the small hole (2). Push the tip into the hole (2) and hold it while pushing in the release knob (1). 2) Pull the head restraint all the way out while pushing the relea se knob (1) and holding the tip in the hole (2).
2-21 BEFORE DRIVING 66J22-03E 65D606 65D201 65 D199 W ARNING • Never allow person s to ride in the cargo area of a vehicle. In the event of an accident, there is a much greater risk of injury fo r persons who are not riding in a seat with their seat belt securely fastened.
2-22 BEFORE DRIVIN G 66J22-03E Lap-Shoulder Belt Emergenc y Locking Retractor (ELR) The lap-shoulder seat belt ha s an emer- gency locking retractor (ELR), which is designed to lock the seat belt only dur ing a sudden stop or impact. It also may loc k if you pull the belt across your body very quickly .
2-23 BEFORE DRIVING 66J22-03E Safety reminder 60A038 60A040 T o reduce the r isk of sliding under the belt during a colli sion, position the lap por tion of the belt across your lap as low on your hips as possible and adjust it to a snug fit by pulling the shoulder por tion of th e belt upward through the latch plate.

The buc kles are designed so a latch plate can not be inser ted into the wrong buckle . 60A039 T o unf aste n the belt, push the red “PRESS” button on the bu ckle and allow the belt to retract.

2-26 BEFORE DRIVIN G 66J22-03E Driver’ s seat belt reminder If the driver’ s seat belt remains u nbuc kled with the ignition ke y in the “ON” position, the driver’ s seat belt reminder works.
2-27 BEFORE DRIVING 66J22-03E Seat Belt I nspection 65D209 P eri odically inspect the seat belts to make sure they work proper ly and are not dam- aged. Check the webbing, buc kles, latch plates, retractors, anchorages and guide loops. Replace any seat belts which do not work proper ly or are damaged.

Make sure that the seat belt is securely latched. T ry to move the child restraint system in all directions, to mak e sure it is securely installed.

2-32 BEFORE DRIVIN G 66J22-03E T o rever t from ALR to ELR 65D267 When you unbuc kle the seat belt and al low it to retract to a cer tain length, the retractor will automatically rev er t back to the normal ELR mode.

2-36 BEFORE DRIVIN G 66J22-03E Seat Belt Pr etensioner System (for f ront seat belt onl y) 52D011 Y our vehicle is equipped with a seat belt pretensioner system at the front seating positions. Y ou can use the pretensioner seat belts in the same manner as ordinar y seat belts.

2-44 BEFORE DRIVIN G 66J22-03E When using a seat belt extender , follow the instr uctions in the “Seat Belt Extender” section. How the System W orks In a frontal collision, the crash sensors will detect rapid deceleration and send a signal to the controller .

These condi tions are not harmful and do not indicate a fire in the car . Be aw are, howe ver , that some air bag components ma y be hot for a while after inflation.

4-4 INSTRUMENT PA NEL 66J22-03E inflation pressure as specified in the vehi- cle placard a nd owner’ s manual. The low tire pressure warning light is also used to inform you of a TPMS malfunction. When the system detects a malfunction, this light will flash for appro ximately one minute and then remain continuously illu- minated.
4-5 INSTRUMENT PANEL 66J22-03E Brake System W arning Lig ht 65D477 This light comes on briefly when the ig ni- tion switch is turned to the “ON” position. The light also come s on under the f o llow- ing condi tions: 1) when th e parking brake is engaged, and 2) when the fluid in the brak e fluid reservoir f alls bel ow the speci- fied lev el.
4-6 INSTRUMENT PA NEL 66J22-03E SLIP Indicator Light 66J033 ESP ® is a registered trademark of DaimlerChr ysler AG. This light blinks 5 times per second when one of the ESP ® systems other than ABS is activa ted. If this light blinks, drive care- fully .

4-8 INSTRUMENT PA NEL 66J22-03E “AIR B A G” Light 63J030 This light monitors inflators, crash sensors, seat belt pretensioners, the front passen- ger sensing system, and corresponding electrical circui ts. This light blinks for se veral seconds when the ignition switch is turned to the “ON” position so you can check if the light is working.
4-9 INSTRUMENT PANEL 66J22-03E Open Door W arning Light 54G391 This light remains on until all doors (includ- ing the tailgate) are completely closed. “CRUISE” In dicator Light (if equipped) 52D113 When the cruise control system is on, this light will be on.

Indicator Light (i f equipped) 60B245 With the D .R.L. system, the headlights light, but are dimmer than the low beam, when the follo wi ng three conditions are all met.

The display shows three types of indica- tion; odometer , trip meter A and tr ip meter B. Push the selector knob (3) quickly to switch the indication among the three.

T o cancel the automatic dimming feature and maintain full br ightness, turn the knob (3) clockwise to position (5).
4-14 INSTRUMENT PA NEL 66J22-03E NO TE: The activation point of the low fuel w ar ni ng light (1) varies depending on road condi- tions (f or e xample, slo pe or cur ve) and drivin g conditions because of fuel moving in the tank. The mark (2) indicates th at the fuel filler door is located on the right side of the vehi- cle.
4-15 INSTRUMENT PANEL 66J22-03E Hazard Warning Switch 64J054 Push in the hazard war ning switch to acti- vate the hazard warning lights. All four turn signal lights and b oth turn sign al indicators will flash simultaneously . T o turn off the lights, push the switch again.
4-16 INSTRUMENT PA NEL 66J22-03E Front Fog Light Switch (if equipped) 64J058 The front f og lig ht comes on when the fog light sw i tch is pushed in with: • the lighting switch turned to the third position and the beams set to the low beam position, or • the auto-on headlight syste m on and the beams set to the low beam position.
