Chapter 1 Introduction 1-7 1.4 System Conf igurations Sun Netra CP3220 blade servers can be installed into an A TCA shelf (chassis), as shown in FIGURE 1-4 . The blade servers can be deployed in various electrical configurations to suit user r equirements.
1-8 Sun Netra CP3220 Blade Server User’s Guide • January 2010 1.4.2 Advanced Rear T ransition Module Y ou can install an optional Sun Netra CP32x0 Advanced Rear T ransition Module (AR TM) ( FIGURE 1-5 ) into the rear of the A TCA shelf, opposite the Sun Netra CP3220 blade server ( FIGURE 1-6 ).

When configur ed, the virtual LAN feature enables the assignment of multiple MAC address to one port.

Chapter 2 Hardware Installation and Ser vice 2-19 2.3.6 Servicing DIMMs 2.3.6.1 DIMM Requirements The Sun Netra CP3220 blade server supports a total of eight DIMMs and the maximum memory capacity of 32 Gbytes (using four 4-Gbyte DIMMs).

However , for specif ic directions on installing DIMMs on the Sun Netra CP3220 blade server , r efer to the documentation that shipped with the DIMMs.

Chapter 2 Hardware Installation and Ser vice 2-23 If an ESD mat is not available, you can place the blade server on the antistatic envelope in which it was packaged. Caution – Do not place blade servers on top of an antistatic bag unless the outside of the bag also has antistatic protective properties.

The Compact Flash card is not hot-swappable, and there is no access to the Compact Flash card once the Sun Netra CP3220 is installed in an A TCA shelf.

2-26 Sun Netra CP3220 Blade Server User’s Guide • January 2010 2.3.8 Installing Optional AMC Car ds An Advanced Mezzanine card (AMC) is a card or module that pr ovides additional functionality to the Sun Netra CP3220 blade server . The blade server contains two AMC slots in which you can install an optional AMC device.

Y ou might damage the AMC connector on the Sun Netra CP3220 blade server , causing permanent damage to the AMC module or the blade server .

Press the black ejector in, toward the AMC card, to activate the card. 9. Refer to the AMC module documentation for software and cabling installation instructions.

Chapter 3 Software Configuration 3-5 3.5 Conf iguring Alternate OOS LED Behavior Administrators and service technicians can change the default behavior of the out-of-service (OOS) LED through the IPMC by using an LED1 contr ol bit. This bit is available only on the Sun Netra CP3220 blade server .

The BIOS has a Setup utility stored in the BIOS f lash memory . The Setup utility reports system information and can be used to configur e the BIOS settings.

Feature Enabled by Default The AMD PowerNow! feature, which is accessed from the BIOS Setup utility Advanced menu, is enabled by default on the Sun Netra CP3220 blade server . Some problems have been observed when using this feature on certain operating systems.

If all devices failed to boot, BIOS would print a message to inform the user and wait for user intervention.
