TWO UNIT MANIFOLD INST ALLA TION Assure water flow balance of all units. Without this balance, the full water heating and storage potential of the system cannot be achieved. Otherwise, the units with the higher water flow may have a shortened life.
Suggested safety device test procedures are: A. While heater is operating, turn valve, main burner and pilot gas line manual gas cocks to the OFF position. Burner should shutdown within 3-4 seconds and lockout on flame failure, requiring reset of the flame safeguard device.
The depth of lime build-up should be measured periodically . Heaters will have about 3” of lime build-up when the level of lime has reached the bottom of the cleanout opening or about 1” of lime build-up if it has reached the drain valve opening.
6. Using a wire brush, remove soot from flue passages in heater tank. CAUTION While cleaning tank flue passages, care must be taken that brush does not come in contact with the combustion chamber lining as damage could occur . • If burner flue collector flange gaskets are damaged, replace.
Excessive water pressure is the most common cause of relief valve leakage. It is often caused by a “closed system”. If a check valve is in the inlet system it will not permit the expanded hot water volume to equalize pressure with the main. The relief valve must release this water or the water heater or plumbing system will be damaged.
