6 Super Audio CD (SACD) An SACD disc can repr oduce sounds that are extremely faithful to the original sound by use of DSD (Direct Stream Digital) technology .
7 Audio CD An audio CD contains audio data. The playing time is 74 minutes for a standard 12 centimeter CD, and 20 minutes for an 8 centimeter CD single. Video CD A video CD can contain both audio and visual data in a disc that is the same size as an audio CD.
8 On handling discs • T o keep the disc clean, handle the disc by its edge. Do not touch the surface. • Do not stick paper or tape on the disc. If there is glue (or a similar substance) on the disc, remove the glue completely befor e using the disc.

19 Playing Discs Notes on playing DTS sound tracks on a D VD The signals of the DTS sound tracks are output fr om the DIGIT AL OUT OPTICAL and COAXIAL connectors only .
20 Playing Discs Playing Discs Achieving high quality sound repr oduction The following settings enable you to play audio CDs, 96 kHz DVDs, and SACDs at the highest possible sound quality . By pressing AUDIO DIRECT on the player when it is stopped, the video and digital audio output can be switched on or off.
21 Playing Discs Playing at V arious Speeds/ Frame by Frame Using the click shuttle and the JOG button/indicator , you can play back a DVD/SACD/CD/VIDEO CD at various speeds or frame by frame. Each time you press JOG, it changes between shuttle mode and jog mode.
22 Playing Discs T o play the disc frame by frame (Jog mode) 1 Press JOG. JOG lights up during jog mode. 2 T urn the click shuttle. Depending on the turning speed, playback goes to frame-by-frame playback in the direction that the click shuttle is turned.
23 Playing Discs x Resuming Playback fr om the Point Where Y ou Stopped the Disc (Resume Play) Notes • Resume Play may not be available on some DVDs. • Resume Play is not available in Shuffle or Program Play mode. • Depending on where you stopped the disc, the player may resume playback fr om a differ ent point.
24 Playing Discs Some DVDs have a title menu or a DVD menu that is provided with DVDs only . Using the title menu A DVD is divided into long sections of a picture or a music feature called “titles.” When you play a DVD which contains several titles, you can select the title you want using the title menu.
25 Playing Discs When playing VIDEO CDs with PBC (Play Back Control) functions (V er . 2.0 discs), you can enjoy simple interactive operations, search functions, and other such operations. PBC Playback allows you to play VIDEO CDs interactively by following the menu on the TV scr een.

53 Settings and Adjustments Setting the Display Language or Sound T rack (LANGUAGE SETUP) “LANGUAGE SETUP” allows you to set various languages for the on-screen display or sound track. The default settings are underlined. Select “LANGUAGE SETUP” in the setup display .
