7 Introduction T erms for discs • Title The longest section of a picture or music feature on a DVD, the movie, etc. in video software, or the name of an album in audio software. • Chapter Sections of a picture or a music featur e that are smaller than titles.

24 Getting Started Using the Rechargeable Battery Pack Y ou can use the NP-FX1 rechar geable battery pack to enjoy the player when an AC outlet is not available. The battery life is approximately 8 hours when played continuously at room temperatur e (20°C) while using the headphones.

If the DVD is recor ded in multiple audio formats (PCM, Dolby Digital, MPEG or DTS), you can select the audio format you want while playing the DVD.

Using V arious Functions with the Control Menu 71 Playing Repeatedly (Repeat Play) Y ou can play all of the titles or tracks on a disc or a single title, chapter or track repeatedly . In Shuffle or Pr ogram Play mode, the player repeats the titles or tracks in the shuffled or pr ogrammed order .
Using V arious Functions with the Control Menu 72 Repeating a Specific Portion (A-B Repeat) Y ou can play a specific portion of a title, chapter or track repeatedly . This function is useful when you want to do such things as memorize lyrics. During PBC Playback of VIDEO CDs (page 37), this function is available only while playing moving pictures.

If you experience any of the following difficulties while using the player , use this troubleshooting guide to help r emedy the problem.
98 Additional Information T r oubleshooting (continued) Symptom Picture noise appears. Even though you set the aspect ratio in “TV TYPE” in “SCREEN SETUP” of the setup display , the picture does not fill the scr een. The picture is black and white.
99 Additional Information Symptom There is no sound. Sound is noisy . The sound loses its stereo ef fect when you play a VIDEO CD or a CD. The surround ef fect is difficult to hear when you are playing a Dolby Digital or MPEG sound track. The remote does not function.
100 Additional Information T r oubleshooting (continued) Symptom The disc does not play . VES (V irtual Enhanced Surround) does not function. The player does not play from the beginning when playing a disc. The player starts playing the disc automatically .
101 Additional Information Symptom The language for the sound track cannot be changed when you play a DVD. The subtitle language cannot be changed when you play a DVD. The subtitles cannot be turned off when you play a DVD. The angles cannot be changed when you play a DVD.
