6 Batter y inser tion and removal Handling the batter y The pro tective tab on y our battery should only be removed when you ar e ready to use the battery . Inserting the batter y Open the battery compar tment with your fingernail as shown in the illustration.
7 Gently close the battery compar t- ment by pressing the bo ttom of the door upward with your finger tip. Do not f orce the door shut. If it does not close easily , check t o see if the battery was inser ted properly . When the battery door is complet ely closed, your hearing instrument is ready f or use.
8 Caution: K eep batteries and instruments aw ay from the reac h of small children. Batteries can be harmful if swallo wed. If swallo wed consult a ph ysician or a hospital immediately .
9 Batter y compar tment door lock Y our instrument is equipped with a battery compar tment door lock. They are int ended to prev ent the unintentional r emoval of batteries from their compartment. T o lock the battery compar tment, open the compartment door to the first stop.
10 Inser ting and remo ving y our CIELO BTE Make sur e that your hearing instrument is turned off. Hold the earmold between y our thumb and index finger and insert it carefully into y our ear canal. Y ou may find it helpful to pull y our ear slightly upward or t o the back.
11 T urning y our CIELO BTE on and of f Via the batter y compartment Y our CIEL O hearing system automatically turns on when a battery is inser ted and the compartment door is complet ely closed. T o turn off Press the batt er y compartment to the rear down t o the first stop to turn the instrument OFF .
12 Y our hearing system can also be programmed b y your hearing instrument specialist to be turned on and off using the program button. Via the push button T o turn your hearing instrument off, press and hold the pr o- gram button f or approximat ely 2 seconds.
13 Using the program butt on 1 2 3 4 Description of the hearing situation Hearing program How to select the prog rams Y our CIEL O hearing system can hav e up to 4 hearing pr ograms. They can be selected with a pr o- gram button or when an audio shoe is attached.
14 Using the directional microphone syst em For CIELO DIR According t o your hearing needs, your CIEL O hearing system can be adjusted t o focus on those sounds in fr ont of you (directional mode) when y ou are having a face-t o-face con- versation in a noisy en vironment.
15 Using the v olume control Y our CIEL O DIR, CIELO P and CIEL O SP hearing system is fully aut omatic. There is no need to manually adjust the v olume control. How ever , if y ou pref er manual volume contr ol, CIELO DIR, CIEL O P and CIEL O SP hearing system can be prog rammed for manual adjustment.
16 A udio input For CIELO DIR, CIELO P and CIELO SP Y our hearing system is equipped with audio in put capability . This enables the connection between the hearing syst em and accessories such as an FM system, tape r ecorder , tele vision, or infrared de vice.
17 Safety Instructions for hearing systems with audio in put The audio input ma y be connected to line-operat ed equipment only if the equipment fulfils the saf ety req uirement IEC 65 / DIN VDE 0860. Befor e the audio shoe can be connected t o the hearing system the follo wing steps ha ve to be fullfilled: 1.
18 Using the telephone Automatic telephone program With A utoPhone functionality , your CIEL O hearing system will automa- tically switch to the t elephone pro- gram when you hold a hearing- instrument-compatible-telephone handset near t o your hearing ins- trument.
19 Note: Magnets can pose risks to electr onics and magnetic st orage mediums when placed in close pro ximity. T ake car e not to set magne ts near computers, color monit ors, television se ts, floppy discs, video/audio tape and ot her electronic equip- ment.
20 Maintenance and care Y our new CIEL O hearing system is a highly sensitive system. Proper car e and handling will ensure the best possible performance. Ear wax ma y accumulate on your earmold. If not cleaned regularly y ou can damage the hearing system or cause health problems.
21 Impor tant not es • Never e xpose your hearing system t o extreme temperatur es or high humidity . Do not stor e it in direct sunlight. Do not wear it when taking a shower or when applying hairspra y . • As with all electrical, non gas-encapsulated systems, the hearing system must no t be operated in explosion- endangered r ooms.
22 T roubleshoo ting tips Y our CIEL O hearing system is an extremely r eliable device. Howe ver , should a problem occur , this can usually be correc- ted quic kly .
