3 W ARNING! Engine exhaust IS HOT , and contains Carbon Monoxide (CO), a poison gas. Breathing CO can cause uncon- sciousness, serious injury , or death. Exhaust can cause serious burns. AL WA YS position unit so that exhaust is directed away from your face and body .
4 T he Proper ly Equipped Oper a tor Always wear a harness when operating the unit . It adds comfort and helps ensure safety by limiting movement fore and aft. When the harness is adjusted properly , the unit should balance with the cutting attachment parallel to the ground.
5 Be Aware of the Wor king En vir onment Avoid long-term operation in very hot or very cold weather . Make sure bystanders or observers outside the 15 meter (50 feet) “danger zone” wear eye protection. Be extremely careful of slippery terrain, especially during rainy weather .

7 NOTE The plastic shield is for use with the Nylon Line Head only . Install Metal Shield when using plastic or metal blades. 1. Remove plastic threaded shaft sleeve and adapter plate (C) from PTO shaft (A). 2. Place the shield on the bottom of the bearing housing ange.
8 Throttle lever free play 4-6 mm (3/16”-1/4”) Throttle Free Play Adjust throttle lev er fr ee play The throttle lever free play should be approximately 4 - 6 mm (3/16” - 1/4”). Make sure that the throttle lever operates smoothly without binding.
9 Handling Fuel DANGER Fuel is VERY ammable. Use extreme care when mixing, storing or handling or serious personal injury may result. • Use an approved fuel container . • DO NOT smoke near fuel. • DO NOT allow ames or sparks near fuel. • Fuel tanks/cans may be under pressure.
10 Filling the fuel tank WARNING! Minimize the Risk of Fire Place the unit on a at, level surface. 1. Clear any dirt or other debris from around the fuel ller cap. 2. Remove the fuel cap, and ll the tank with clean, fresh fuel. 3. Reinstall the fuel ller cap and tighten rmly .
11 Slide ignition to ON ON Fast Idle Button Make sure the attachment is clear of obstructions! ...and pull recoil starter handle upward Hold the unit rmly .
12 Slide ignition to OFF OFF NEVER operate the unit with the cutting attachment shield or other protec - tive devices removed! Use only authorized Shindaiwa parts and accessories with your Shindaiwa trimmer . Do not make modications to this unit without written approval from Shindaiwa, Inc.

16 Maintenance (continued) Remove and replace the fuel lter element. Use a hooked wire to extract the ■ fuel lter from inside the fuel tank. Inspect the fuel lter element. If it shows signs of contamination, replace with a genuine Shindaiwa replacement fuel lter element.

19 Adjusting Engine Idle The engine must return to idle speed whenever the throttle lever is released. Idle speed is adjustable, and must be set low enough to permit the engine clutch to disengage the cutting attachment.
