3 Stay Alert Y ou must be physically and mentally fit to operate this unit safely . WARNING! Never operate power equipment of any kind if you are tired or if you are under the inuence of alcohol, drugs, medication or any other substance that could affect your ability or judgement.
4 26105 Be Aware of the W or king Environment (all units) Avoid long-term operation in ver y hot or ver y cold weather . Make sure bystanders or observers outside the 50-foot “danger zone” wear eye protection. Be extremely careful of slipper y terrain, especially during rainy weather .
5 Unit Description Using the accompanying illustrations as a guide, familiarize yourself with this unit and its various components. Understanding the product helps ensure top per formance, long ser vice life, and safer operation.
6 Driveshaft/Powerhead All Models Grip Spark Plug Main Shaft Tube Clamp Outer Tube T230 1. Place the power head on a clean, flat sur- face, spark plug facing up. See Figure 6. 2. Use the 4 mm hex wrench to loosen the tube clamp screw . 3. Add some moly-type EP grease to the splines on the end of the mainshaft.
7 23013 Assembly Throttle Linkage and Ignition Leads All Models Remove the Cylinder Cover . 1. Remove the cap from the spark plug. 2. Loosen the black cylinder cover knob (about a dozen full tur ns are requir ed), and then lift of f the cylinder cover .
8 Assembly Throttle Linkage and Ignition Leads All Models Ground Wire Terminal Ground Wire Assemble and Adjust the Throttle Cable. 1. Inser t the throttle-cable housing into the notch on the fan cover , and clamp the ground wire ter minal between the fan cover and the outer cable adjuster nut.

11 Blade Blade Holder B Hex W rench (blade not shown for clarity) 5. Install blade holder “B” on the output shaft. See Figure 21. The recess in the holder must completely cover the safety clip, and must fit tightly against the blade. 6. Install the bolt guar d and then the blade retaining bolt.

14 23042 Hold the grass trimmer so the trimmer head is angled slightly into the area to be cut. To ensure maximum trimmer-line ser- vice life, cut only with the tip of the trimmer line. Cut grass by swinging the unit's trimmer head from left to right.
15 WARNING! Before working with a blade- equipped unit, always inspect and clean the area of objects that could interfere with or damage the blade. Never use a blade near sidewalks, fence posts, buildings or other objects that could cause injury or damage.
16 General Maintenance WARNING! Before performing any maintenance, repair or cleaning work on the unit, make sure the engine and cutting attachment are completely stopped.

20 NO T r oubleshooting Guide Does the engine crank? Good compression? Does the tank contain fresh fuel of the proper grade? Is fuel visible and moving in the retur n line when priming? Is there spark at the spark plug wire ter minal? Check the spark plug.
