1 CHAPTER 1 Produ ct Overvie w Features and Benefits The Digital Desktop Syst em enables IT professionals to relo cat e a user’s computer up to 80 0 meters away while still providing the user the same PC experience. The basic sy stem consists of a host card ( PCI Add In Card), in terconnecting lin k and a Desktop Applia nce (Figure 1.

Chapter 1: Product Overview 3 Intrusion Detect option The Intrusion Detect option allows th e ad m inistrator to use the DWorks Administration Utili ty to monitor access to th e top cover of the Desktop A p p liance. The Intrusion Detect option alerts the administ rator when the to p cover is removed, even when th e unit is powered down.

5 CHAPTER 2 Installation Getting Started Before installin g your Digital Desktop System, refer to th e fo llowing lists to ensure you have all items that shipped with the product as well as other items necessary for proper installation.

8 Digi tal Desktop Syst e m In staller/User Guide T o configure the PCI Add In Card: Several j u mpers and two set s of connectors on the PCI Add In Card are used to configu re your Digital Desktop System. An op ti o n al s hort bracket is also provided to accom modate a low profile PCI f orm fa ctor.
Chapter 2: Installation 9 NOTE: The DWorks Administration Utility can also be us ed to selecti vely disable these PCI devices. Both t he physical jumper and the FLASH setting must be enabled in order f or a PCI device to be enabled. NOTE: The DWorks A dministration Ut ility is required to access the FLASH contents.

The factory default is set to allow b o th local and remote write access to the FLASH settings.

17 CHAPTER 3 Operatio ns Overview Operating the comp uter through the Digital Deskto p System is no different than working d i rectly connected to yo ur computer. All peripherals o perate as if directly connected, though the computer is located at a distance.

Appe ndices 27 Standard multimode fiber cabling For the fibe r optic cable models of t he Dig i tal Desktop System, the cable interface should be IEEE 802.3z 1000BASE-SX standard multim ode fiber optic cabling. Table B.2 shows the minimum link distances that must b e supported by cables that are co mpliant with this standard.
